Are Sir PJ's LotR and Hobbit double trilogies worthy of inclusion . . . Can't Post

In the USA's Library of Congress' National Film Registry? I see that many movies that were produced overseas are included in LoC's NFR so I see no reason they won't. If they just included Ferris Buhler's Day Off and Will Wonka and the Chocolate Factory in it this year, I can't see why the double trilogies won't be preserved forever in the USA. Does New Zealand have a national film registry?

The National Film Registry [In reply to] Can't Post

started out, oddly enough, as an attempt to fight the brief fad for colorizing films. Fortunately that fad died quickly, but the Registry keeps on functioning. I would imagine that they would eventually put Peter's films on the list.

The films that go on the Registry, by the way, are nominated by a committee of film-studies academics. They have to provide rationales for their choices. (Obviously there are a lot of reasons, artistic, technical, social, etc.) I know one person on that committee, and he's an excellent film historian.

I'd be shocked it these films didn't make it to the registry. Especially LotR. They broke the ground on so many levels... like the first 3-film project made at one time.
