Two Middle-earth personages appear in the final Colbert Report Can't Post

I'll let you try to spot them in the masses of people (and 'creatures') who showed up to wish Stephen Colbert (in the Colbert Report persona).
http://thecolbertreport.cc.com/...---we-ll-meet-again-

It was fun to people-spot. Henry Kissinger! George Lucas! And who was that cute guy dancing with Katie Couric?

Side note, tonight is Craig Ferguson's last night. I don't think he's going to have that kind of massing of guests, though. :-)

Timing! [In reply to] Can't Post

Admins, please delete my thread above, which I was apparently in the middle of typing when Magpie scooped me. Here's what I wrote:

Did you catch Elijah Wood's cameo on the Stephen Colbert finale?

I didn't. Yesterday, the last episode in the nine-year run of The Colbert Report climaxed with a lengthy singalong of the World War II classic, "We'll Meet Again" (perhaps best known to many for its use at the end of Stanley Kubrick's 1964 film, Dr. Strangelove, as nuclear armageddon begins) in which Colbert was joined by an enormous number of guests from entertainment and politics. This article attempts to list them all with photos, and look! there's Elijah Wood nestled behind Patrick Stewart and Henry Kissinger. See also this story and this one. There are at least two more Tolkien connections in the mix.

so, the cute guy dancing with Katie Couric was.... [In reply to] Can't Post

David Hallberg a ballet dancer who's principal dancer for the Bolshoi Ballet and American Ballet Theatre.

yeah... always liked those ballet dancers. :-)

Thanks for the link that identifies everyone. I was searching for a partial list I saw earlier in the week.

But... that list doesn't show or identify the *second* Middle-earth personage!

I remember the [In reply to] Can't Post

show with the ballet dancer. Didn't recognize him with his clothes on. How sweet of him to dance with Katie!

lol [In reply to] Can't Post

I went looking for some videos of him dancing and found a few.

They had the video of his interview with Colbert and Colbert teased he'd be back to dance but the video of him dancing on that show had been taken down.

He's an interesting guy. He's the first American to have a spot as a principal dancer with the Bolshoi.

Never watched the whole show but... [In reply to] Can't Post

...I've seen many fun clips and interviews from the Colbert Report over the years. I didn't know until last year when I became a Tolkien fan myself that he had so much Tolkien-y knowledge, or that he was so geeky in general, but I've become fairly fond of him. I'm glad to see that although he's ending the Colbert Report that he did it with such style and positivity and got so many people in on the fun.

"The skies don't seem to be as dark as usual
The stars seem brighter than they've been before
And deep within I feel my soul is stirring
As though my hope has been restored.

The shepherds say they've heard the voice of angels
Confirming rumors spread across the land
That a child protected well from Herod's anger
Is our Father's Son and the Son of Man.

Love is raining down on the world tonight
There's a presence here I can tell
God is in us, God is for us, God is with us, Emanuel."

I'm kinda surprised [In reply to] Can't Post

Viggo didn't show up, considering how many times Colbert had him on. Maybe he was busy . . .

Since evidence can be adduced and interpreted to corroborate a virtually limitless array of world views, the human challenge is to engage that world view or set of perspectives which brings forth the most valuable, life-enhancing consequences.

I've been distracted.... [In reply to] Can't Post

lately, but now getting back into the news. I'd hard about this but not too much. I loved the CR. So why it's ending? Didn't know ratings were that poor. Wasn't Colbert the one who came up with the word "truthiness" ?

Thanks for "this article" :) [In reply to] Can't Post

I didn't see Elijah at the time. He's not quite Hobbit sized in RL, but still easily missed in a large crowd. I knew someone besides Smaug had to be there. Smile
