Which of the three did you like the most (or dislike the least)? Where does BOFA place in your list?

For me: [In reply to] Can't Post

1. BoFA
2. DoS
3. AUJ

I'm expecting the EE of BoFA to be my favorite.

In the entire saga, it goes like this:
1. RotK
2. FotR
3. BoFA
4. TTT
5. DoS
6. AUJ

But it's hard for me to make this list. I really love all of them.

Based on initial viewing [In reply to] Can't Post

I'd place them like this:

Desolation of Smaug
Battle of the Five Armies
Unexpected Journey

But in the time since AUJ's release, I've come to love it (especially the EE), so I'm not sure how I'd rank them now.

I can't make up my mind between nos 1 and 3 [In reply to] Can't Post

1. BoFA/AUJ (although they are very different from each other).

3. DoS (although the EE is better for me than the cinema edition).

Adding in the LotR movies [In reply to] Can't Post

Since someone else did this already, I'm adding the LotR movies and ranking the full Saga as follows:
The Battle of the Five Armies
The Return of the King
The Desolation of Smaug
The Two Towers
An Unexpected Journey
The Fellowship of the Ring

Also, an interesting observation: AUJ is the only one of the six not to have the word 'The' in its title.

My ranking of TH/LOTR [In reply to] Can't Post

The Fellowship of The Ring 10/10
The Two Towers 8/10
Return of The King 8/10

(The EE's I don't even remember the theatrical cuts)

-I'd probably give the trilogy 8.5/10 as a whole

An Unexpected Journey 6.5/10 (EE)
The Desolation of Smaug 5/10
The Battle of the Five Armies 6/10

-I'd probably give the trilogy 6/10 as a whole, but I'm just not that fond of them (for the usual reasons), and I don't really feel a desire to watch them for the forseeable future.

Only seen DOS once in the cinema, haven't watched the EE yet, and I have no plans to rewatch BOTFA until the EE comes out.

I do remember enjoying the Rankin Bass Hobbit Film and Bakshi's LOTR quite alot, even though they were subjectively...kinda bad.

The whole series:

1. FOTR
2. ROTK
3. BOFA

5. TTT
6. AUJ

5 and 6 are interchangeable. AUJ is better shot and is more faithful to the book, but TTT had locations and new characters we hadn't seen before in other movies.

Definitely check out DoS EE when you can... [In reply to] Can't Post

I pretty much agree with your list. The DoS EE pushes it up to a 6, on a par with BoFA TE. I'm expecting big things from the BoFA EE. It has potential to be a really great movie with some additions.

AUJ Because I always love the begining of journeys, I have the same feeling with FOTR

BOTFA GREAT character moments, is the best movie of the three in this

DOS incomplete, felt incomplete but yet loveable

My rankings: [In reply to] Can't Post

For me, AUJ is by far the best and up there with the LotR trilogy. BotFA is second and about as clearly behind AUJ as it is ahead of DoS. So:

AUJ
.
BotFA
.
DoS

It's funny how easily I can put these three movie in an order of preference when with the LotR trilogy I can never quite decide.

Ranks [In reply to] Can't Post

AUJ - 6/10
DOS - 3.9/10
BotFA - 4/10

Average of around 4.5 for the trilogy which i think is a fair reflection of how they are - some great sections (in AUJ at least) but much bloat and random fan fic to give a higher score. Anywhere they kept close to the book i felt gave better scenes, when they meandered away then things became weaker in general.

All posts are to be taken as my opinion.
