It would feel wrong when someone other would play Gandalf. Ian was perfect as Gandalf.
I do not suffer from LotR obsession - I enjoy every minute of it.

****************************************** The audacious proposal stirred his heart. And the stirring became a song, and it mingled with the songs of Gil-galad and Celebrian, and with those of Feanor and Fingon. The song-weaving created a larger song, and then another, until suddenly it was as if a long forgotten memory woke and for one breathtaking moment the Music of the Ainur revealed itself in all glory. He opened his lips to sing and share this song. Then he realized that the others would not understand. Not even Mithrandir given his current state of mind. So he smiled and simply said "A diversion.”

More seriously, if this film crew makes the Hobbit I'd like it to fit the look of the LOTR trilogy -- so yes, I want my same old Gandalf back!

No, we don't need an actor. I want the actual Gandalf, the one that already played himself in "Lord Of The Rings". Yeah, that's the guy .... There is only one lord of that wig ... only one who's name should be on the bill .... and he does not need to share that power (...with any other actor). So let's get on with it. With the delay in things, we are left only with questions. Questions that need answering!

No Ian McKellen, no me going into the theaters to see these Hobbit movies AS SIMPLE AS THAT! Honestly there's no way I'll accept another actor playing Gandalf!

How about: Sylvester Stallone as Beorn? Danny Devito as Bombur? David Bowie for the Elrond? Joe Pesci for Bilbo? Will Ferrell for Elvenking? Jim Carrey to voice Smaug? (Alriiighty then, Barrel-rider!)

He's as vital to the films as Jackson, Shore, Taylor, Serkis, and Holm (imho). He IS Gandalf. And to see Gandalf the Grey back on the screen will fill me to the brim with glee! I miss the shaggy ol' Wizard.

Can't wait to see him back on the screen ... an iconic character reborn for all to see. The recent trailer for the new "Indiana Jones" movie reminded me of Gandalf, ironically. I wasn't a big fan of the new trailer - but the brief part where Indy puts his hat back on was simple and great. So made me wonder how they'll introduce Gandalf the Grey back to the audiences as that familiar big grey hat comes into view.

*tries to scrub voice of Carrey from my mind* You're ruining my images of Smaug, Jazmine! *Grrr*, I say, *Grrrrr!!* ;)
Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..." Dwarves: "Pretty rings..." Men: "Pretty rings..." Sauron: "Mine's better." "Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded b*****d with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak. Opening scene for Gandalf! OMG! Ummmmmmmmmmmm.... I hope, hope, hope they have Bilbo sitting on the porch smoking... to open exactly like the book! BUT, instead of riding on a cart (which would be okay too... first scene in both stories the same)... anyway, Gandalf walking up Bagshot Row as we follow from behind; head bowed; staff clicking on the ground; his hat brought tight onto his head as he approaches this mild hobbit sitting quietly smoking on his pipe. *twitch* THE HOBBIT!!! BRING IT ON!!!!

I can't imagine another Gandalf. Ian IS Gandalf. It's like the Home Alone movies... Macaulay Culkin rocked the first and second movies and then all of a sudden, new kid on the block Alex Linz does the third movie. The third was just as good... but really weird with out Macaulay. Plus... having a different Gandalf in The Hobbit will really confuse all the youngsters and they might think Gandalf was reincarnated into a new man for LOTR or something crazy like that.
