Gandalf the White seems to be already "not of this world" anymore, even when he's still in the thick of the fight. Gandalf the Grey feels down-to-earth, and real, like part of Middle-earth

Gandalf the Grey is the more interesting one. For the movies, I liked them both, for different reasons - each had their own strengths.
