What or who do you think will shake Thorin from his dragon sickness? Can't Post

Thereby joining the fray. (Which is before Dain arrived, isn't it?) He will hear appeals from Bard on behalf of Laketown, be challenged by at least Kili, witness a potential massacre on the threshold of Erebor not to mention be assailed with reason from Bilbo, Balin and Gandalf. (And you just know Gandalf is going to play the Thrain card at some point.)

Granted, it doesn't have to be just one thing that brings Thorin to his senses, but it would be more dramatically powerful if it was. How do you think or how do you wish to see the suspense unfold?

Well [In reply to] Can't Post

He could appear as he did in the book, with ''To me. To me, O my kinfolk', etc. That is a very evocative scene in the book and I trust we will see it, with the Dwarves, Men and Elves rallying to him.

If the spoilers are true... [In reply to] Can't Post

then he gets some information about Azog being on Ravenhill and decides to go on the attack - though I would hope Thorin does so for some reason besides revenge.

Why yes, I DO look like Anna Friel!

I hope we do see him shaking it off before joining the battle [In reply to] Can't Post

In the book, we never know what changes his mind, and I think it's very important that we see the change. If it took a mortal wound to free Thorin from the dragon sickness, I think that would be too late.

While Thorin is under the spell of the dragon sickness, he just stays put inside the mountain and lets the battle rage outside. But then something makes Thorin shake it off and decide to go fight in the battle.

I think it could be a combination of things, starting with Dwalin's words and culminating in Kili's accusation about "letting others fight our battles for us."

That's what I want to see.

I hope so (BOOK SPOILER) [In reply to] Can't Post

That particular scene in the book is so heroic and stirring, I'm looking forward to it very much. And I think it would make a very moving complement to the scene in AUJ of Thorin at Moria - young Thorin rallying his people and turning the tide of battle (and becoming the Oakenshield of legend), and older Thorin attempting to do the same in his last battle.

It's marvellous – and memorable [In reply to] Can't Post

It's a scene that Richard Armitage could carry off so well, too. Digging out a battered copy of The Hobbit, this is how the passage reads:

" 'To me! To Me! Elves and Men! To me! O my kinfolk!' he cried, and his voice shook like a horn in the valley.

Down, heedless of order, rushed all the dwarves of Dain to his help. Down too came many of the Lake-men, for Bard could not restrain them; and out upon the other side came many of the spearmen of the elves."

Even though I haven't read the book for at least 15 years, this is a scene from it that I always remember. I hope they don't mess it up.
