But given the artistic sensibilities in play, I'd say almost certainly yes.

But I like the idea. Wouldn't work in LOTR, but would work here.

from some piece of writing somewhere is that his name came from his armor covering even his feet in iron. Whether that will be shown as such in the movie remains to be seen!...

Swordz are Named for their "Great DEEDZ in Battle" SSOoo. Thorin got the "Oakenshield" addition for hiz Great Deed @ the Battle of Moirazz Gate... We Know hiz Name is REALLY.."Durin"... SSOoo. Implyed here iz that Dain DID some Great Deed, but Got one of hizz Feet SSOoo. Damaged? they Amputated One foot & Gave him CAST Iron Foot inside a Large BOOT Of course, thiz iz Only Speculation... BUT given thiz.. Logical explanation, seems to WORK for Bomby

though given that *spoilers* Dain's role has evidently been pared down a great deal, it's possible it won't come up in the film. It's the sort of thing that would definitely be mentioned in the extras if true, though.

From Tolkien Gateway
The epithet Ironfoot remains unexplained in the published writings of J.R.R. Tolkien. However, John D. Rateliff* has pointed out that an explanation for the epithet is likely found in the original manuscript of The Hobbit, where it is stated that the shoes of the Dwarves of the Iron Hills were of iron. *J.R.R. Tolkien, John D. Rateliff (ed.), The History of The Hobbit, Return to Bag End, p. 674 (note 12)
