Legolas vs Bolg

Just noticed. When Legolas is fighting Bolg he has no bow and his quiver is empty. He also doesn't have orcrist, only his knives. I wonder why that would be? Thought the lack of arrows may be a CGI thing but how, and why, does Thorin manage to get Orcrist off him? Presumably he must give it to Thorin, but when that could happen and why he would do that seems strange.

By Dain? My thought is that Dain killing Bolg could be Legolas' first step toward respecting the dwarves. Because Dain achieved what he couldn't.

But I wouldn't be surprised if Legolas takes out Bolg, at least they are setting whole confrontation on that premise. But I hope Peter once again surprises me and it isn't that predictable outcome.

They have no real history - The fights they have, I think, exist just to make audiences go "Wow, this orc is bad ass if Legolas can't take him down". Beorn is really the only one with a history and a real motivation, so I hope he gets the kill. But it all seems so unpredictable still.

Legolas (and the elves) will give Throin Orcrist back AND the dwarves (at least fili kili oin and bofur) all of their belongings during the lake town refuge camp scene as a sign of good will or something most likely in Thranduils hopes of getting what he wants back from the dwarves now that they control the mountain. if you look closely at the last two trailers for BOFA you can tell that fili kili bofur and oin have their "pre-captured" clothing on when they enter erebor, and so the elves MUST have given their clothing back to them. I assume this is how orcrist is returned as well and i really dont think weta would render digital models of the characters in their wrong outfits for this point in the story, that would be a huge unforgivable oversight.

the way you're thinking. And I bet that would great way to surprise general audience, since I bet most believe that Legolas will give the killing blow. I will kiss Peters hairy feet if Beorn kills Bolg AND Dain kills Azog.

I am pretty sure he has it when he is at the bats, you can see the hilt when he is leaning back hiding on the cliff. But in the fight with Bolg there is no sign of it at all, just a buckle at his waist.

Possibly Thorin is unarmed on the battlefield and Legolas gave it to him then. After all he does owe him one. Thorin saved him in the barrel scene.... Although the question is does Legolas actually know that. I don't think it will be him who kills Bolg, simply because it's a bit too obvious putting the fight in the trailer, a dead giveaway. I prefer to think they are trying to fool us with that. They know everyone will assume he wins. He struggled against Bolg in Laketown with Orcrist, that fight pretty much ended up as a fist fight. Will he do any better with just his knives?

...maybe Legolas wounds Bolg coming close to his demise and perhaps as Legolas turns away thinking he's finished him off, Bolg may attempt to cheapshot him but... Beorn to the rescue! :)
