When the Black Riders are looking for Frodo in FOTR, we see a Rider approach a man outside chopping wood. Do you think it was Farmer Maggot? Or perhaps the Old Gaffer? I'm not sure he was actually credited in the film cast.

Thanks for the page, M. It probably doesn't matter but I know you like to tie up loose ends. There's an "unidentified Hobbit child" at the bottom of the page. I'm inclined to trust intuitive jumps and the first thing I thought of when I saw the photo was the scene where the children chase Gandalf's wagon as he enters Hobbiton and sets off some fireworks.

I clicked on your "Old Noakes" link and "One Wiki" say the Ivy Bush was in Hobbiton. I always thought it was in Bywater?
Am I wrong?

You're right, Bracegirdle. In FOTR: A Long- Expected Party, the text says "'[The Gaffer] held forth at The Ivy Bush, a small inn on the Bywater road;..."

On second look Bywater Road runs through Bywater and through (or very close to Hobbiton). I don't take this map as absolutely accurate but I can find no textual reference as to exactly where the Ivy Bush is located except that it's on the Bywater Road. According to this map it could be in either Bywater or Hobbiton or somewhere in between?

We already have The Green Dragon located there. Though this doesn't mean there couldn't have been more than one inn in Bywater, of course; it's just that I feel it's more likely The Ivy Bush is located either in Hobbiton or somewhere in between the two villages.

Well now I think I’ve changed my mind (not completely). But it was likely close to or in Hobbiton. I wonder if Bilbo ran past The Ivy Bush on his way to meet the dwarves.
For fun BlackFox: How many taverns can you name (no peekee unless absolutely necessary). I know of seven.
