people signed up to the official fan club, and those who had done so got their names in the credits. I'm pretty sure gramma is one of them and we had several others too. It wasn't a TORN initiative, it was an official thing organised by New Line.

As I recall, you had to join the official Fan Club before FOTR came out to have the chance to be added to the credits. I remember finding the fan club late and didn't have the option. Also as I recall from others' accounts, you paid a fee to be added and had the choice to be on the FOTR EE credits, FOTR EE + TTT EE credits, or FOTR EE + TTT EE + ROTK EE credits. A lot of people paid for the first or first and second movies but not all three, and thus the list of names is even longer on those first two movies. Hopefully someone who remembers better or was actually a part of it can pop in and confirm or deny what Eledhwen and I recall.

When a local theater ran the trilogy the week before AUJ was released, all the credits had the fan names, so the credits ran for about 20 mins. It was kind of cool to see, and also spotted several of the actors' names.

so you probably had to join the fan club before it was an official fan club (or perhaps before FotR was released to theaters). I looked for my name once I became a member and didn't find it, but I did see several cast members listed (as well as both Alan Lee and John Howe).

New Line licensed a company in New Jersey, Decipher Games, to form the official fan club. The announcement of the formation of the Lord of the Rings Fan Club was made on 17 October 2001. Subscribers received a collectible lithograph, the wonderful and informative bimonthly THE LORD OF THE RINGS FAN CLUB OFFICAL MOVIE MAGAZINE (18 issues in all), and a 10% discount on official merchandise bought through the fan-club. In addition, charter members would have their names listed at the end of the credits on the DVDs. At that point the extended-edition DVDs had not been conceived of. Once the films was so successful, the extended editions were announced, and the list of charter members was included only on those. That practice continued for all three extended editions. (All this is covered in my book, THE FRODO FRANCHISE, on pp. 142-44.) There was no fan club licensed for the HOBBIT films.

A "LOTR Marathon" the weekEND before AUJ This List was @ the End of FOTR.. that took Forever... Was searching for names, but was SSOoo. packed (About 8 to 10 across each line) Gave up? Had to leave @ midnight after 13 hours Right after "You Bow to No one" by Aragorn. Would have been about 14 hours if Bom had stayed ALL the Way to Annie's song. THIS was in a mostly empty theater (about 8 people) by then. AND about 5 Degrees outside in Blowing snow in Denver. IF they do Another EE Marathon for TH Bom thinkzz they should Start @ 8AM instead of 11AM... But Thang YOU Berry Buch for the info.

My RL name is in the first two eedvds (FotR & TT), and my name was SUPPOSED to be on RotK, but it got dropped!!! Same thing my jaw did when I saw it :) I joined the Official Fan Club when FotR was released. I paid the extra fee to have my name added for the first 2 films, then a few days later, I found money to pay for the 3rd. They ASSURED ME that my name would be on there, but it wasn't. I'm still stoked, though. :D My name scrolls through when hobbity music is playing. Elijah Wood was the first person to join the club, and you'll see nearly all the cast names scroll by... along with many sibbies.

I have to wonder if ToysRUs is smarting from the Breaking Bad incident

Some people think TRU is a kid's toy store. And it certainly has LOTS of stuff for kids. But it also has lots of merchandise that is clearly of more interest to adult collectors. But some mom got all bent out of shape when she found a Breaking Bad figure at ToysRUs with story-appropriate drug paraphernalia. (sorry but... lol) I think Hobbit merch is certainly not 'adult' but I wonder if they will get more shy about what figures they offer for sale and what they won't. On the flip side, how much Hobbit BOTFA merchandise is being made? I'm sure I'm massively out of the loop but I haven't seen much.

I found the official fan-club magazine for LOTR of enormous use

In researching THE FRODO FRANCHISE, it was one of my best sources. It also provided a wonderful resource for fans. The editors solicited questions from fans for upcoming interviews with the cast and crew, and questions were used in those interviews, with the fans mentioned by name. The subjects of the articles ranged from interviews with PG to articles on licensed products from various countries to interviews with people in fairly minor crew roles on the films. Since the magazine was sent only to fan-club members, no libraries had copies. I bought complete runs on ebay and contributed them to the Marquette University archive, which holds the largest collection of Tolkien manuscripts in the world, and to the Library of Congress. I would anyone who owns a complete run to donate it to a library. Someday it will be a rare resource.

If you joined the fan club as a charter member, and submitted a digitized photo, it was grafted onto one of the CGI orcs in the ROTK battle scenes. Mine is briefly visible just after the Rohirrim charge hits the first wave of Orcs. TP.

It's a small world after all It's a small world after all It's a small, small world It's a world of laughter A world of tears It's a world of hopes And a world of lukewarm critic reviews for a 300 page novel stretched to 3 x 3 hour movies, that look oddly like video game cut scenes in HFR. TP

we'll be sure to meet again. I hope they make some strides in de-aging CGI before then. And maybe the fox will finally get his due.
