I don't think he had it at the end of DoS? So does Sauron give it back or maybe he gets a new one.
I hope there's a shot after an epic battle where he almost dies, Gandalf notices his hat lying on the floor. He picks it up, dusts it off and just walks off, not looking back to observe Dol Guldur exploding behind him
