If I remember right, I went to the first local screening of Star Trek: The Motion(less) Picture (in Batavia, NY) wearing an improvised Star Fleet tunic 'way back in December 1979.

My aunt got me a plastic replica as a surprise late birthday present. I'd like to get the real thing at some point but those are pretty expensive so it'll suffice for now.

I'm the same way. I'm very shy and hate drawing attention to myself in any way; I typically try to avoid conversations, if that tells you anything.
The extent of me dressing up for a movie would probably be wearing a themed shirt and/or jewelry.
