duh Sindarin as well, and for the purposes of real world application, Spanish I'd also like to learn German, Japanese, Norwegian (I am 1/4 Norse, but hardly speak a word of it sadly ), Danish (I actually am learning- one of my fan fiction penpals is teaching me ), and French. But mainly Khuzdul, Sindarin, Spanish, and German

I studied French in college, and again privately (before a business trip), but never reached the point of being able to use it usefully either for reading or speaking, beyond simple survival exchanges.

Alternate choices would be German, French, Italian or Sindarin.

I'd like to be able to follow everything said during formal welcomes and on marae, and I love the strength and rhythm of the language.
Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..." Dwarves: "Pretty rings..." Men: "Pretty rings..." Sauron: "Mine's better." "Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded beggar with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak. "When you think of the great Battle of Pelennor, do not forget the Battle of Dale. Think of what might have been. Dragon-fire and savage swords in Eriador! There might be no Queen in Gondor. We might now only hope to return from the victory here to ruin and ash. But that has been averted -- because I met Thorin Oakenshield one evening on the edge of spring not far from Bree. A chance-meeting, as we say in Middle-earth." - Gandalf

Besides the Tolkien connection, it's also one of my ancestral languages. I've got learning at least a bit of it on my "bucket list".

in Catholic School as part of the curriculum in the 1960s. After college he used what he could remember, mostly nouns and infinitives, while backpacking across Europe. Most places got what he was trying to say!

That would be the most useful around here. But I, too, would like to master the languages of my ancestors: Polish, Welsh, the Gaelic languages, Finnish. I just wouldn't have anyone to talk to.
