Birthday Mathom Can't Post

Today is my birthday and I received a sparkly pink birthday card from my brother with the following:

A Birthday Fairy Tale
Once upon a time, there was a princess who was like a size four or something. She could eat and drink whatever she wanted and always stayed really skinny and had flat, firm abs even though she never went to the gym. Every time she tried on jeans, the very first pair fit perfectly and made her butt look amazing. She lived in a great big, beautiful castle with her handsome, multimillionaire husband, who was busy all the time buying her giant diamonds, taking her to Hawaii, giving her foot massages, and telling her how beautiful she was.

One day, she was eaten by a dragon and no one cared.

The End.
Hope your birthday’s (even) better than a fairy tale.

And in the bottom corner, there was a cool drawing of a dragon, and next to it, my brother wrote “I know you like dragons!” Cool

I’d like to share that birthday wish with my fellow birthday girls Magpie and Aunt Dora Baggins! (Just to be clear, I'm sharing the wish that your birthday is even better than a fairy tale, not that you'd be eaten by a dragon). Angelic

And now for a few favorite select photos (and as Eruvandi says, HTR Alert):

Happy Birthday! :-) [In reply to] Can't Post

to you and Aunt Dora!

I've been sick... (she moans)

And it was coldish and grey out.

And my husband worked late.

But we celebrated a combo of both our birthdays last Sunday (his is the 21, mine the 30). So all is good.

Now I qualify for senior discounts. ouch.

I didn't really have a mathom but I did think of one this morning. How about recommendations for Tolkien and Tolkien inspired music one can buy or download (legally) for free? All of these are great and I'm not sure if people know about them.

Bilbo's Last Song sung by Malcolm Martineau Cantabile. There are two versions.

The Stephen Oliver version as heard in the BBC Radio 4 adaptation of The Lord of the Rings (1981), with music by Stephen Oliver.

The Donald Swann version

All That is Gold by Brooks Williams - has extra lyrics written (I think) by Williams

Aniron - alternate version by Enya - this is an expanded version from what's heard on the soundtrack. It was only sold on Enya's album "Best of Enya."

Fellowship Going South Written by Leslie Fish, performed by Julia Ecklar. This is an old chestnut (for me) but I really like this song.

There are tons more I have and enjoy but many are now out of print.

Love that fairy tale - and thank you for the visual mathoms, for some reason I sort of expected you'd have something like these! Laugh

Those cartoon RA-characters have been popping up in several places lately. I laughed when I saw his Rise Up Christchurch "dwarf" ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETrNF2fvHw4). But what in the world is John Proctor holding?

Happy Birthday Kim! [In reply to] Can't Post

I hope it was a great daySmile.

" 'Fair lady Goldberry!' said Frodo at last, feeling his heart move with a joy that he did not understand. He stood as he had at times stood enchanted by fair elven-voices; but the spell that was now laid upon him was different: less keen and lofty was the delight, but deeper and nearer to mortal heart; marvellous and yet not strange."

Chapter VII: In the House of Tom Bombadil; FOTR's

Faerie contains many things besides elves and fays and besides dwarfs, witches, trolls, giants or dragons; it holds the seas, the sun, the moon, the sky; and the earth, and all things that are one in it: tree and bird, water and stone, wine and bread, and ourselves, mortal men, when we are enchanted."

A belated happy birthday to both of you! [In reply to] Can't Post

Mine was pretty low-key, and I completely forgot to post a mathom. So maybe I'll share my little trip to Lothlorien, including a meeting with an aspen-wizard. (At least that's what I saw looking at that tree.) I posted this here in a fiesta thread, but it was kind of buried in a reply.

Happy birthday! [In reply to] Can't Post

Nice story!

******************************************
"My friend,” said Gandalf, “you had horses, and deeds of arms, and the free fields; but she, born in the body of a maid, had a spirit and courage at least the match of yours. Yet she was doomed to wait upon an old man, whom she loved as a father, and watch him falling into a mean dishonoured dotage; and her part seemed to her more ignoble than that of the staff he leaned on.
“Think you that Wormtongue had poison only for Théoden's ears? ‘Dotard! What is the house of Eorl but a thatched barn where brigands drink in the reek, and their brats roll on the floor among their dogs?’ Have you not heard those words before? Saruman spoke them, the teacher of Wormtongue. Though I do not doubt that Wormtongue at home wrapped their meaning in terms more cunning. My lord, if your sister's love for you, and her will still bent to her duty, had not restrained her lips; you might have heard even such things as these escape them. But who knows what she spoke to the darkness, alone, in the bitter watches of the night, when all her life seemed shrinking, and the walls of her bower closing in about her, a hutch to trammel some wild thing in?”

“I'm gonna wash Rohan right outa my hair,
I'm gonna wash Rohan right outa my hair,
I'm gonna wash Rohan right outa my hair,
And I’ll be on my way!

“If a land don't understand you,
No matter how many regimes,
Saddle up, do not wait,
Don’t waste time at the weapontake.
Muster out of that roll call.
Ride Windfola out to your dreams!

“If the house of Eorl is nothing more,
Than a barn where brigands drink,
Their brats and dogs roll on the floor,
Then you know what the door is for,
Muster out of that roll call,
Wash Rohan into the sink!

“I'm gonna wash Rohan right outa my hair,
I'm gonna wash Rohan right outa my hair,
I'm gonna wash Rohan right outa my hair,
And I’ll be on my way!"
