While I have a lot of trouble choosing just one of anything... this is a multiple-choice game to celebrate the publication of The Hobbit (September 21) AND Frodo and Bilbo's Birthdays (September 22). Each of these has something to do with Frodo and Bilbo or The Hobbit. Open book, but no film references ;) Thanks so much for playing!!! 1. Which dwarf spends time with both Bilbo and Frodo? a) Balin b) Gloin c) Bofur d) Dwalin 2. Bilbo and Frodo share a birthday. On this last birthday together in the Shire, one of these numbers has no significance whatsoever. a) 111 b) 33 c) 144 d) 50 3. Frodo and the Fellowship come upon Bilbo's Trolls. Their names are known, but one of these doesn't belong! a) William b) Bob c) Tom d) Bert 4. Bilbo and Frodo travelled to the same places. The one they did not experience was a) Rivendell b) Bree c) Trollshaws d) Weathertop 5. Frodo is Bilbo's ______ a) son b) nephew c) cousin d) godfather 6. Bilbo and Frodo were both called this by their mutual acquaintance, Gollum. a) Bagginses b) Thief c) Master d) Tricksy 7. Which of these was NOT something both Frodo and Bilbo had in a meal? a) rabbit b) tea c) cheese d) mushrooms

But...but doesn't "multiple" mean "more than one"? 1. Which dwarf spends time with both Bilbo and Frodo? b) Gloin 2. Bilbo and Frodo share a birthday. On this last birthday together in the Shire, one of these numbers has no significance whatsoever. d) 50 - although I dispute "no significance whatsoever", as both started on their adventures when at this age! Maybe "no relevance to the occasion"? 3. Frodo and the Fellowship come upon Bilbo's Trolls. Their names are known, but one of these doesn't belong! b) Bob 4. Bilbo and Frodo travelled to the same places. The one they did not experience was c) Trollshaws 5. Frodo is Bilbo's ______ b) nephew 6. Bilbo and Frodo were both called this by their mutual acquaintance, Gollum. a) Bagginses 7. Which of these was NOT something both Frodo and Bilbo had in a meal? a) rabbit Thank you for the fun, gramma!

Closed book for me, let's see how much I remember... 1. Which dwarf spends time with both Bilbo and Frodo? b) Gloin 2. Bilbo and Frodo share a birthday. At least, not with a closed book. 1. Which dwarf spends time with both Bilbo and Frodo? a) Balin b) Gloin c) Bofur d) Dwalin Okay, that one wasn't too difficult. 2. Bilbo and Frodo share a birthday. On this last birthday together in the Shire, one of these numbers has no significance whatsoever. a) 111 b) 33 c) 144 d) 50 This is actually a pitfall for those who do remember the book; otherwise, why would anyone think of 50 as significant? 3. Frodo and the Fellowship come upon Bilbo's Trolls. Their names are known, but one of these doesn't belong! a) William b) Bob c) Tom d) Bert Bob did troll Bill Ferny, though. 4. Bilbo and Frodo travelled to the same places. The one they did not experience was a) Rivendell b) Bree c) Trollshaws d) Weathertop It took me a moment to think about this; as a matter of fact, both Bilbo and Frodo do come pretty near the troll-country, and I was wondering perhaps you've meant places they've both experienced, in which case d would be the correct answer. But while the rumour of Bilbo's disappearing did reach Bree, and I'm pretty sure he did stop there at a time - nothing about this is mentioned in either book. So I went for the Trollshaws, as neither Bilbo nor Frodo are said to have gone quite so far north. 5. Frodo is Bilbo's ______ a) son b) nephew c) cousin d) godfather Although a would be a nice conspiracy theory. 6. Bilbo and Frodo were both called this by their mutual acquaintance, Gollum. a) Bagginses b) Thief c) Master d) Tricksy Whoa! I need a book for this one! In Gollum's internal debate (The Dead Marshes), he says he hates all Bagginses, whch are thieves and keep the Precious. But I need the book to actually make sure. On the other hand - did Gollum call both "tricksy"? I think he did. When speaking to himself after missing Bilbo; and in the forbidden pool. Right? Once again, I need a book to check. Okay, let's guess. 7. Which of these was NOT something both Frodo and Bilbo had in a meal? a) rabbit b) tea c) cheese d) mushrooms Rabbit is a nice pitfall - in case one forgets the Eages' nest. But now it's cheese or mushrooms. But I'm pretty sure Bilbo had cheese somewhere - at Beorn's? When stealing from the outskirts of Lake-town? But I don't think he had any mushrooms - I expect I would note them. So once again, I'm guessing. Hmm... I'm having second thoughts, seeing that there is no question answered by a. They only likely one is no. 6. Nevermind. I'll keep my guess. Thank you, gramma!
