heehee... same here! I suspect my time's gonna have an expiry sooner than later, just with the way things are. I just hope it'll last til after BotFA.

I hope you will still be around too! (RL stuff calling you away?) and that you'll be here for discussions when I return from my two RL exiles.

Exile 1: Trip to South Africa / Botswana / Dubai from October 8 to Nov 3. I can't think of anything remotely Tolkien-related to this holiday. Except that I might see some mammals that remind me of mumakil?

Exile 2: the 17 days offline between the (UK?) BotFA release date and tardy Aussie release date.

*starts doing stretching exercises*

Wanna go get some exertions! [In reply to]

But I have freaking pillow-neck of all things, and it's hurting enough I'm whinging myself out of anything strenuous. I'll be going to lie down and continue with the Silmie in a bitSmile

RL... yeah, a bunch of situations that well, hopefully don't pull me in all directions at once, but any one one of them's going to be enough to blow the fun and games up, either practically or mentally. I suspect I'll really have to sink back into the mirk sometimeUnsure prolly relegated to weekend TORning, and maybe not so much time for trawling and putting up WWs anymore... but let's not think of that now.

Your exile one is so exciting! I have that on my to-do as well, but drat if life tangles aren't a mess. As for exile 2- we've spoken on this before, so I'd prolly will be in semi-lurk mode before I see BotFA in the theatres too. *fingers crossed for not pre-spoiling self too much*

Enjoy your run!Smile TTYL!

Now that you mention it [In reply to]

I hadn't noticed before but he has indeed extensive protective armour on his legs. Must be vital not to get an injury to your legs, beside the fact you have a major aorta running through it, it's also very inconvenient when you have to run for safety Tongue

When I think of it, it's rather strange Legolas barely had any protective armour on him during the war of the ring. He put on some bits and pieces of Rohan armour when he was in Helm's Deep but that's it. I know it must be rather inconvenient to cross country with a fellowship while wearing your heavy and (somewhat) motion restricted armour, but you'd expect he would have learned a bit from his Daddy and put on some real gear when he was prepping for the big battle.

PJ and his mug, I imagine he has an assistant who keeps filling the cup for him. Not too bad of a job since you are able to watch all the scenes up close when they're being filmed.

I'm not sure if you would be very spoiled while watching DOSEE trailer beforehand [In reply to]

I only saw it once (and was disappointed I didn't see any Trandy/Leggy in it) but I didn't get the feeling I was being completely spoiled beforehand. But perhaps that's personal and I understand your reasoning for not wanting to watch the DOS EE trailer and let the magic happen when you get to see all the lovely EE scenes for the very first time.

In Reply To
And I am confident we will see His Magnificence in some new EE scenes.

I like your confidence and you know what... maybe I should be a little more confident as well. Why not include more Thrandy?? Surely those two scenes with Thranduil in it were amazing and had a good subplot to add to the entire story.

Oh don't worry I haven't seen DOS in months either. I'm very patient when I want to be and, like you, I want to be wauwed when I see the EE in november. Plus it also helps having all the Thranduil-scenes on youtube so I can watch them whenever I feel like it (and that's quite often...so perhaps I'm not completely un-spoiled before the EE) Angelic

Curious for the Tauriel photos you found in the cellar...

About i-browsers and posting on TORn [In reply to]

You know I have absolutely no idea what version my IE is running on. But I recently bought a new laptop (last month) so surely it should be the latest and greatest version?
Ah maybe it has nothing to do with my browser after all, I dunno. Maybe it's just my own incompetence of being able to adjust to all the buttons, rules and regulations that come with a different forum than the ones I'm used to.

However (as you might have noticed) I recently learned to create (workable) clicky's (yeey), thanks to your advice. Although admittedly they're still a bit of a pain because when I copy an URL, it copies the http:// along with it. And seeing the img/link boxes have the http:// pre-programmed for you.... you might imagine the mistake I repeatedly made when I copied + pasted the url's blindly into the textbox. Ah I know I should have paid more attention to these type of silly things, but I can't get over the fact that it's just so unpratical. When these type of things happen I tend to blame the (lack of) user-friendly buttons or imputs of the board makeup (rather than myself Angelic).
Maybe I'm just a big nag (probably hihi), but that's how I'm experiencing things so far. But of course I endure all these little pains for the sake of the one and only Heart. And I must say I have already grown very fond of all the friendly and interesting replies from the Thralls as well. So that's worth putting up with some of the misery that comes with elaborate posting.

And thanks for noticing my first working clicky, hooray!! Smile

This confirms my thoughts btw... look at his swords that are now clearly visible thanks to your posted image. They're exactly the same! Or at least they appear to be, same details on both the handle and the blade itself. Therefor we can assume our theory on wether he'd probably be able to use both swords with either hand just as effectively, was correct. He just is that good of a swordsman Heart I wonder who thought him though, his dad maybe?

In Reply To
What happens here do you think? Is this where Thranduil reunites with Legolas?

I was wondering that same thing, seeing as Legolas is not too far of I imagine they will have a shared scene somewhere in this environment, don't you think? You have no idea how badly I want them to have more scenes together. And I can't wait until the moment where Legolas and Thranduil meet in BOFA. Probably even fight together side by side as well. That would be absolutely EPIC!!!

But I did feel I had nothing much to contribute beyond general squeeing - not being terribly academically minded, I felt so under-read and uneducated on Tolkien, compared with so many of the fine folk here, and I've shown myself up plenty of times with my comparative ignorance. But I guess after a while, I felt more confident in taking part. It's been a wonderful ride.

Heart Thanks for sharing my feelings concerning posting on TORn, it's exactly as how you just described it. I feel I have nothing to contribute except the occasional quee here and there. But I guess that's what makes it fun as well, squeeing, thudding and getting heart-attacks about random posted Pretty! is so much more fun doing together.

Oh and about Celeborn.... I think he just rocks as a character. I don't know why I just mentioned this, maybe it's because the ridiculous pairing ppl seem to do with G&G that imo have absolutely no solid foundation and is actually quite insulting. Aaaanyway back to Celeborn. I recently read an article about him, describing his character and reasons behind some of the decisions he makes. It includes a bit of Thranduil/Sindar as well. I loved it and it gave me a better understanding of the character. And seeing as it had something to do with Thranduil as well (being both Sindar, both rulers of an Elven realm and -possibly- related) I was intrigued. So if you would like to read it someday, here's the link Smile http://www.elfringham.dsl.pipex.com/lotrfic/celessay.html

Ok I find this image of Oropher completely disturbing LOL. And I'll tell you why. If you watch the first season of Game of Thrones you'll know that the character portrayed as Ororpher in these images is in fact the very annoying Viserys Targaryen, a spineless brute who would sell even his own sister (which he did) to end up on the throne. http://gameofthrones.wikia.com/wiki/Viserys_Targaryen Oh and he doesn't survive the first season, so that's the only thing he and Oropher have in common Unimpressed He's just a meany and an idiot and I actually cheered when he died (a rather painful death). Oropher is just nothing like this guy, at all. Ppl should not compare the village idiot to the Splendor that is Thranduil's father Angelic I'm aware you haven't watched GoT yet, but now you know. And what has been seen cannot be unseen Evil
Maybe Oropher would look more something like this (who knows)?

LOL again, Poor Thrandy degrading to a mere 4. I imagine he would be very upset by this news (for he at least is an 11 on a scale from 0-10)

I find I have to slow myself down and really READ if I don't want to get confused later, which results in wandering mind syndrome (and no, I refuse to acknowledge I have ADD), and I have to go back and forth to be sure I got it straight (which keeps for oh, 24 hours if I'm lucky) so it takes a bit to get anywhere with the SilmCrazy

Same here. I don't even bother trying to read fast because I know if I do, I'll miss stuff. I've never been diagnosed as ADD, but my mind wanders a ridiculous amount and if there's noise of stuff going on around me, I can't focus on reading. Thus is why I get peeved with doctor's/dentists/other places who insist on having a TV or radio going constantly in the waiting room.Unsure Seriously, if I have to sit and wait somewhere for a long time, I'd rather make progress on a book I enjoy than be forced to watch soap operas or hear a never ending loop of medical factoids.Crazy

I think Thingol's displeasure was also partly a feeling of insult that a mere Man dared to even desire his daughter, who's essentially of the very highest of high birth, being half Maia and the child of himself, the only Elf in all ME accounted among the Calaquendi. If the stranger had been a fellow-Elf, especially a noble, he might just be very slightly less peeved though I do think there's not many possible candidates who would not trigger him to set the fetch-ye-a-Silmaril challenge/quest/thingy. Though I think he wasn't genuinely looking to send Beren to his death, just deter him from thinking beyond his station. But then he must be uberly shaken by the "breach" in the defences. Melian did foretell that one of great doom was going to pass through the Girdle regardless. So maybe there was an element of averting the fates after all. Interesting.Smile

Good points all around.Smile I doubt Thingol wanted to give he daughter to anyone, but short of a dwarf or orc, a lowly Man was probably one of the least desirable options.

I totally agree that Thingol's actions may have been trying to "avert the fates". To connect it to Thranduil I think his closing the boarders in DOS is basically him doing the same thing. Deep down he knows the darkness is trying to come back and like Thingol, he's lying to himself by thinking he can hold it off forever and live in a bubble of safety while the rest of the world burns. It reminds me a little of TTT when Merry and Pippin thought they had failed to get the Ents involved in the war. Pippin tried to suggest that they could always just go back home but Merry responded, "The fires of Isengard will spread, and the forests of Tuckborough and Buckland will burn. And all that was once great and good in this world will be gone. There won't *be* a Shire, Pippin." In Pippin's case it was his innocence that caused him to think the Shire would be unaffected. In Thranduil's case he is being blinded by fear and pride.

I found it uber interesting that Thingol essentially changed his mind about Men and took Turin on as a foster-son he loved like his own. And Turin in turn turned out to be a "progressive" influence on his court, at least in terms of how war is conducted, though sadly he is the catalyst for everlasting change for Thingol and Doriath.

Ah, I remember this from reading The Children of Hurin before the Silm Read-Along started! I've found it interesting too, to be able to look back in time to see what Thingol was like before Turin showed up. His indifference towards Men and then his reaction to Beren actually really surprised me because he was downright nice to Turin and his family. He basically went from seething with anger and threatening death to being really welcoming and downright protective of those Men/women who came to live in Doriath. Like with Morwen when she decided she absolutely positively HAD to go looking for Turin. Thingol didn't want to let her leave because it wasn't safe but she got so sad he had to let her go, lest she mourn herself to death. Even then he sent like, ten elves to follow her and make sure she didn't get hurt whether she chose to come back or not...I actually thought it was kinda sweet that he cared that much about her safety.Heart

I see a little bit of parallel in Tauriel essentially holding that same position in Thranduil's story we see unfolding in the movies, though hopefully with less depressing causes and outcomes.Unimpressed

Hmm. I guess I see what you mean, but Tauriel has a much different personality than Turin and as far as we know, wasn't cursed by Morgoth to have everything she and her family put their hands to go wrong. Either way, I don't think PJ could reasonably do anything to Tauriel that would be as depressing, or for that matter convoluted, as what happened to Turin. At least, I hope not.Pirate

Through shadow to the edge of night
Until the stars are all alight.

All shall fade
All shall fade"
