I do not, [In reply to] Can't Post

though i'm open to it if/when i meet the right person, but if it doesn't happen, i'm fine with that, too.

I really like kids and enjoy being around them, but i don't have the 'burning desire' to have them like some do. If it happens, it happens.

I love my niece and nephew and my friend's kids. I love playing with them. I love seeing how they're growing up, each with his or her own distinct personality already. But I don't want any kids of my own.

No, and it's way too late. [In reply to] Can't Post

I came across a bunch of quotes from childless women the other day. My favorite was from Elizabeth Gilbert (of Eat Pray Love), who said "some women are meant to be mothers, some women are meant to be aunties, and some women should not be allowed within 10 feet of a child." I'm one of the aunties. I love being an auntie so much I have "adopted" several of my friends' children as honorary nieces & nephews.

But me a mom? I'm a perfectionist and way too compulsive; I would have been a helicopter mom to the max, and from what I've seen that's NOT the way to raise a kid. Fortunately, I never really had the option; by the time I was in my late 20s I knew it couldn't happen, and I was okay with that. (Because by then I was an auntie, yay!).

The world needs great aunties <3 [In reply to] Can't Post

My church once requested that I sing a song for Mother's Day that wasn't about mothers specifically. I came up with one, about women who had passed their interests on to me. Here's the chorus:

Heirlooms of the heart, generations gone
Left to us their legacies, passed their treasures on.
We can all be ancestors if we only pass them on.

I have kids, but it's doubtful whether I will ever have grandkids, so I try to pass those treasures on to my students and other young people I know.

2 accidents, one "immaculate conception." [In reply to] Can't Post

In other words, contraception isn't perfect. I had 2 girls and a boy, all now over 50, and 4 grandkids distributed among them. I have been a much better mom to them as adults than I was when they were kids, but I'm a pretty good grandma.

But honestly, I think I'm going to be a better grandma than a mother. This blundering around being a parent by the seat of my pants stuff is rough--I need more experience. WinkTongue

19 year old girl and 27 year old son. No grandkids yet, but I did become an Aunt to twins last August--an intense joy in its own right! And I suddenly have all this wisdom to apply (to someone else's kids . . .).

I don't have kids now and I won't until such time as I'm married someday in the future. I'm not picky about number or gender either. I'll love them all.Heart

Until then I'll happily lavish my cousin's two daughters with nice things that I knit and crochet.Wink

I have the rare opportunity [In reply to] Can't Post

to do both at the same time, since my stepdaughter has two little ones, a boy four months old and a girl three years old now. It's kind of disorienting when we're with her family--I have an urge to spoil the little ones rotten but am brought back to reality by having to keep my own kids in line! But I'd like to think that if her family lived closer (they're 400 miles away), I'd be great at having fun with them and teaching them little things I was always too busy to do with my own kids at that age. Evil And if my own children ever have kids, I'll have double the experience to bring to grandmothering! Wink

My oldest nephew got married last month, and I just loved that he almost-kinda-sorta in his nephewish way asked me for advice. It was like a landmark moment in my life--when I was actually looked to for wisdom! Who could have predicted? Cool
