Last sentence on this post: "No, just no. Thranduil should be the one who lies lays it on Thorin's tomb, not Legolas. I can hope! Angelic" Thanks.

*FACEPALM* My English teachers would be so appalled if they knew. Unsure

Fan of both books and movies; I am a lurker by nature though it seems I have severely misnamed myself... for the moment.

Tis true: more appreciation threads for Thranduil exist than ME movies. Threadcount: XIII

Laugh Thrall Wars!: What business do Elves, Dwarves or Men(?) have with drooling thralls, yea, with smartphones in tow, unto the slopes of Erebor? ... oh, yes, the Hobbit's lingering in some shadows, ever ready to swoop to the hairy rescue. Take cover if you dare!. (A writing triangle with Avandel and Kerewyn)
Teh partsies: Prologue (aka the 'tater-mash of whatever came before), two, three, three-appendix: An Unexpected Flashback, four, five (new, posted 20 August)

Oh, yes the old lie/lay trouble... [In reply to] Can't Post

Got me into quite a stew before I had mastered it. Crazy

I try to remember it this way:

Lie: To rest or recline. I am going to lie down.

Lay: To put or place something. Lay that blanket down.

Stuff like this is why I love Feedback! At the most unexpected times, amidst a flurry of Tolkien-talk, you can start in about Grammar and Composition. Sly

P.S. I won't tell your English teacher. Now...what exactly was his/her name? Angelic Just so that I don't accidental tell the wrong person...Laugh

Call me Rem, and remember, not all who ramble are lost...Uh...where was I?

Well... [In reply to] Can't Post

my problem was my brain KNEW the right one. But somehow, in between the thought travelling out from the grey matter and the commitment to virtual paper, the signal got garbled.

Thanks for the reminder. I summarise them thusly: lay is passive, lie is active Smile

Not a linguist by any shot, but I love this stuff too. And thanks so much for your kind thought... let's see, they're, or were, "Teacher", "Sir"... and oh, yes, "M'dm" Smile
