Fan of both books and movies; I am a lurker by nature though it seems I have severely misnamed myself... for the moment. Appreciating Thranduil, thread by thread: I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, XI, XII (Tis true: more appreciation threads for Thranduil exist than ME movies) Thrall Wars!: What business do Elves, Dwarves or Men(?) have with drooling thralls, yea, with smartphones in tow, unto the slopes of Erebor? ... oh, yes, the Hobbit's lingering in some shadows, ever ready to swoop to the hairy rescue. Take cover if you dare!. (A writing triangle with Avandel and Kerewyn) Teh partsies: Prologue (aka the 'tater-mash of whatever came before), two, three, three-appendix: An Unexpected Flashback, four, five (new, posted 20 August) "BoFA"= The Battle || "BotFA"/"tBotFA" = The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies ======= Middle-earth dispatches out of the lurkmirk

But if you scroll down on that Weta link in my post, you'll see a clearer image of the other three books at the bottom of the page... then you can click on the individual titles in the right-hand side bar, and read a bit more about each book (and I guess the detail, if you wanted to ask a local bookshop to get them in for you.) Two of them are 'Art & Design' books, including concept drawings, sketches etc - just lovely. And the other two cover off similar but are far more photographic. All of them include interviews with cast and crew on many topics to do with the set, costumes, props etc. Yes, I have become very interested in all that goes into these movies - it's like the ultimate study topic.

Now I can see the 'swirling background' is fully made up of a sea of fighting armoured elves. Thranduil's other hand is hidden by his side, and I imagine the second sword is in its natural reverse grip position. Jut look at his focus.

Now I can see the 'swirling background' is fully made up of a sea of fighting armoured elves. And under his sword, on his left flank, you can see an orc corpse.
Thranduil's other hand is hidden by his side, and I imagine the second sword is in its natural reverse grip position. Naturally! Right above the orc in fact, if you sight the awkward orc elbow up past the blade of his primary sword, you can see the evidence of his main gauche in its usual reverse grip
Jut look at his focus.

I won't delve into it more either though- seems like some things are best left unsaid to keep the peace online, even if one's own worldview differs from others. It's a sad state of affairs all around on that particular topic, I'm afraid

I really like your avatar as well btw, is that a drawing of Tauriel? Yep, it's a drawing of Tauriel by Jerry Vanderstelt. (He's got some other great Hobbit/LOTR pic on there too) I actually originally found the Tauriel one when Evangeline Lily tweeted it several months ago and it took me the longest time to figure out who the artist was!
You know it has been too long since I read LOTR. I read it right after FOTR came out. My brother had just finished the book and told me there were these awesome horse people in the second book. And seeing as I have a thing for horses as well (beside the hair-thing) that was what triggered me to actually start reading LOTR in the first place. I was so mesmerized by the FOTR film, I figured that including people with lots and lots of horses would make it even better (what can I say, I was young and just loved horses). Couldn't wait another year to find out what was going to happen and who these people were. Hmm why was I telling you this story? Oh right, I wanted to explain why I don't remember book-Legolas all too well. It has been over 13 years since I read the book. The only Legolas I remember is movie-Legolas and yes you're right, he is stinking cute I never thought there would be another Elf who could possibly compete with him in terms of absolute cuteness, but he has found a worthy opponent in his Daddy The first and most recent time I read LOTR was right around this time last year after I had discovered the movies over the summer, so I remember him pretty well. After having watched the movies first where Leggy only has a limited number of lines, it surprised me to see how he is in the book because there are some places like Lothlorien where he becomes a bit of a chatty-Cathy! Lol! But other than that I like book Legolas because he's this fascinating combination of ancient and youthful characteristics. Plus, I just generally have a thing for all of Tolkien's elves. They're so cool!
As for Tauriel, I like the fact they made her a fine representation of a Wood Elf. Not only in appearance, but in character as well. You clearly see she is as Tolkien describes Wood Elfs to be, less wise and very dangerous. Less wise perhaps because she doesn't do a whole lot of rationalisation before she acts (perhaps that is considered less wise?) and clearly she is not someone to mess with. I only wish I could understand why they made her have affectionate (if anything else) feelings for a Dwarf, and vice versa, oh and let's drop Legolas in between them too. Just doesn't make sense. Why downplay such a character (and Leggy, and Kili) in such a tacky way? I wish I could get over it, but I can't Oh and I also hope she doesn't come in the way of any important screentime Thranduil and/or Leggie will/should have. Well actually only Thranduil should have any important screentime (but Leggie can be right by his side when he takes up his moment, I don't mind ) Because technically she and Leggie were not even mentioned in the book. Not that I'm complaining because I really like seeing badass Legolas on screen, but I hope Thranduil's role will remain significant and he'll get to have the most screentime of all the Elves. Because that's what he deserves for being so very awesome. Yeah, the whole so-called "love triangle" thing is unfortunate. I actually heard that the studio is the one who insisted that they had to make it a love triangle and no one else really wanted to do it. I'm hoping that maybe, just maybe they're only making it seem like a love triangle for now to make the studio happy but that nothing major will come of it in the end. Anyway, I hope just like you that Tauriel won't take away from any important Thranduil/Leggy time, but IMO it's sounding like everything will be fine on that front.

He-he! I'm glad everyone appreciates Thranduil as much as we do. I especially like the gif under number 7 which I think pretty much sums up everyone's thoughts every single time he walked on set! LP: "Stop staring at me" PJ: "I can't." Also, I'm totally not surprised to hear that LP was a model. It explains a lot!

Hmmm... I guess it gets a bit troublesome? And doesn't the fashion year also go by two seasons? Eh, being from a tropical climate, though loving the concept of seasons, I really don't know... prolly getting it all wrong but cherries for spring? Strawberries, blueberries, cranberries for autumn? Actually, looking at the crowns of movie Thranduil, I think they did go with Summer and Winter for his season crown change. Nice choice with the blueberries and cranberries! About his headpiece/crown he wears in BOFA. It's funny how it seems he wears it in combat, but not while attending a formal visit to the Dwarves in Erebor in AUJ. I really love the fact that his 'combat' crown has branch-like features in the silver circlet. Closeup of the crown: http://33.media.tumblr.com/...091sajkj4o1_1280.jpg

He knows they're going to win Oh and a total random Ronan picture that has nothing to do with anything of the above. But it's Pretty! of LP and should always be allowed even if it's very off-topic Yeah looking good. I suppose this is how a Dwarf would view Thranduil from below.

Now I know where you get your avatar from! Lol. They're right though Somehow I don't see Thranduil as a story teller. I would imagine him to be more solitary and might share one or two stories with Legolas and a few of his closest friends. Thanks for all the nice clicky's
