What would your patronus be? Can't Post

If you lived in the Harry Potter world and could cast a magical animal that would keep away Dementors, what would it be? I've listed broad categories but feel free to specify.

Mine would be a lynx.

A fox. [In reply to] Can't Post

We had some fox sightings that felt meaningful to us when my mom was dying and my father and father-in-law were having medical issues, all at the same time. I wrote a song about it.

A sequel to the story is that recently the flags have been disappearing off my father-in-law's grave. (He was a WWII vet.) Turns out a fox was tearing the flags off the poles to line its den. Anyway, here's the song:

The Fox at the Window

It was in the month of May
And the old folks they were ailing.
We were worried and blue, didn’t know what to do
When we saw their strength was failing.
And we lay in bed, and we prayed and said
“God, please help us find beauty.”
Then a fox overhead, right above our bed,
Sang in our bedroom window:

“Don’t be afraid and don’t be dismayed,
Keep your ears and your eyes wide open.
Run through the night and sing to the Light,”
Said the fox that sang at the window.

It was in the month of June
And my mother lay a-dying.
We sat by her bed and we stroked her head
And we could not keep from crying.
But all night long I sang her songs
As she slipped away in her sleeping,
For the fox’s song still kept me strong
And the courage it was keeping.

“Don’t be afraid and don’t be dismayed,
Keep your ears and your eyes wide open.
Run through the night and sing to the Light,”
Said the fox that sang at the window.

It was in the month of July
And we walked in a mountain meadow
And my mother’s voice made my heart rejoice
As she smiled through my memory’s window.
And the fox that we’d seen around our house
Seemed to have gone away now,
But the fox’s song still kept me strong
For I knew what it would say now:

“Don’t be afraid and don’t be dismayed,
Keep your ears and your eyes wide open.
Run through the night and sing to the Light,”
Said the fox that sang at the window.

It was in the month of August
And the church was filled with flowers.
And the people there came to love and share
My mother’s sweetest hours.
And just before the preacher spoke
We looked out of the window...
And a fox looked in with a foxy grin
That said “She’ll always love you.”

“Don’t be afraid and don’t be dismayed,
Keep your ears and your eyes wide open.
Run through the night and sing to the Light,”
Said the fox that sang at the window.

I think it would have to be... [In reply to] Can't Post

a magpie.

As I put it in my wiki profile:

magpie:
noun: long-tailed black-and-white bird that utters a chattering call
noun: someone who likes to collect many different types of objects
noun: an obnoxious and foolish and loquacious talker
Take your pick.

and a quick search found it!

(I can't get this person's Deviant Art page to load but google search is telling me it's here.)

I've thought about that before [In reply to] Can't Post

I can never quite decide for sure. Any time I watch Nature or some other type show about animals, I always think that whatever featured animal is my favorite.

Top contenders are:
Jaguar
Otter (like Hermione)
Lemur
Flying Fox (a type of fruit bat)
Mountain Goat (not glamorous, I know. But they are amazing! Love the way they can make their way along seemingly verical rock walls.)

But, for now anyway, I choose a dolphin. Smile

I've changed my mind already [In reply to] Can't Post

Just had something come up in RL that worried me a little (It's okay now) and, as usual, it was my precious little rat terrier that was there looking out for me just like an "actual" petronus. My beagle baby also inspires me with his unflagging cheerfulness.

So my patronus would be a team made up of a rat terrier and a beagle. EvilHeart Sorry if that's cheating. Angelic

An otter [In reply to] Can't Post

At least that is what I got on the online quiz on Mugglenet waaaaaaaay back when. I kind of like it too. I love watching otters play.

Or a jaguar. They are the most beautiful creatures.

Or a merlin. I've always loved merlins.

I saw my first merlin last month [In reply to] Can't Post

It was during a week when I had great luck seeing predator birds.

I'd just seen a Red-tailed Hawk eating a bird in a low limb of a tree minutes before spotting the Merlin. I was prompted to check out both trees by a persistent peeping (coming from multiple birds, I'm sure) that I can only assume were alarm calls. A few days later (in a different location), I heard the same peeping and found a Great-horned Owl. And that same week I also spotted an Osprey soaring over the lake I was walking around.
