Maybe it's silly... [In reply to] Can't Post

...but it makes me happy to have the film longer than An Unexpected Journey in its extended form.

Just prefer my Middle-earth films to get longer with each installment, not shorter. Tongue

"The danger with any movie that does as well as this one does is that the amount of money it's making and the number of awards that it's got becomes almost more important than the movie itself in people's minds. I look at that as, in a sense, being very much like the Ring, and its effect on people. You know, you can kind of forget what we were doing, if you get too wrapped up in that."

I totally agree. [In reply to] Can't Post

As I've mentioned elsewhere, nearly everything in the theatrical cut of DOS up to Bilbo breaking the Dwarves out of their cells felt kind of rushed (Kíi and Tauriel's bonding scene - and her scene with Thranduil - may be the exceptions). It will be nice to (presumably) see those segments being able to breathe a little more.

To be precise... [In reply to] Can't Post

The timing on the Theatrical Blu-Ray is 161:16

So it's 25:22 longer

For comparison with the AUJ:-
TE 169:37
EE 182:30

Difference 12:53

Comparing the two EE's:-
AUJ EE 182:30
DOS EE 186:38

Difference 4:08

Mirkwood was over WAY to quickly.

And the rest of the Dwarves meeting Thranduil properly when they were brought into the Halls of the Woodland Realm.

this will truly be a saga with each film no less than 3 hours runtime

That includes credits. All of the actual EEs for the Hobbit (the film and not the credits) fall just shy of 3 hours. I think credits are always about 10 minutes.

Still [In reply to] Can't Post

The official running times are 3 hours. And one could argue that the credits are a real part of the film. I mean, I couldn't watch ROTK or AUJ without hearing "Into the West" or "Song of the Lonely Mountain."
And there's music throughout the whole thing so we're still being "entertained." Wink

"I've found it is the small things, everyday deeds of ordinary folk, that keeps the darkness at bay. Simple acts of kindness and love. Why Bilbo Baggins? Perhaps it is because I’m afraid, and he gives me courage.” - Gandalf the Grey.

"Do not be afraid Mithrandir, if ever you should need my help, I will come." - Lady Galadriel.
