"I ran into some Unsavory Characters..." Can't Post

What type of people do we think these "Unsavory Characters" are? Men, Orcs, distaff Elves. What are your thoughts?

I have a feeling they were very similar to the two thugs in Bree [In reply to] Can't Post

Probably just bandits or men who were bully/thug types.

Remember, Gandalf seems astonished and surprised that an orc pack crossed the Bruinen later on in the movie-so since it was on the Greenway so close to Bree (and well away from the Bruinen, IIRC) I highly doubt they were orcs.

And Gandalf has a good relationship with Elves, and aside from Feanor and his sons and the atrocities committed in the name of their oath, and the evils wrought by Maeglin and Eol, for the most part elves were good guys.

So yeah- I'm thinking maybe some Dunlendings or men from the south- the types who were drunkards, thieves and vagabonds- the sort of men who would be referred to today as muggers Smile

The squint-eyed Southron and the half-goblin.

I don't know but [In reply to] Can't Post

I just liked it as a set up for Thorin's line -

"... I ran into some unsavory characters whilst traveling along the Greenway. They mistook me for a vagabond.”

Thorin: “I imagine they regretted that.”

Loved RA's delivery and expression with that line Cool.

Black-speak [In reply to] Can't Post

I thought it might be Orcs as Gandalf produces the Black-speak banner to show to Thorin.

What Cirashala said. [In reply to] Can't Post

Pretty sure the unsavory characters were men of some sort or Gandalf would have been more alarmed.

such a great line and delivery... [In reply to] Can't Post

I would think he ran into the types that attempted a scuffle at the Prancing Pony.

Such a terrific line. I'm looking forward to the EE of Desolation so I can see this scene again. Haven't see the film since January I think.

... on the other side of tomorrow...
