Why aren't links clickable? Can't Post

I'm just curious why there doesn't seem to be a way to make them work.

are you talking about links you post... [In reply to] Can't Post

...or links other people post?

If you want to know how to make links you post clickable, it will help to know what browser you're using (Chrome, Safari, Internet Explorer, Firefox, something-else?) Then someone can point you to the proper buttons or help for writing code tailored to your browser.

If you want to know why other people's links aren't clickable, it's because they haven't done the work to make them clickable.

One trick when you run across a non-clickable link is to highlight the entire url text and then right click. You'll get a context menu up that will include the option "Go to"

choose that and your browser will go to that url.

try it with this:

Added to what Magpie says... [In reply to] Can't Post

Links should automatically be clickable for all readers when they have been posted by IE users working in Advanced Editor. Chrome, at least, doesn't 'enliven' links automatically.

What operating system are you using?

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..."
Dwarves: "Pretty rings..."
Men: "Pretty rings..."
Sauron: "Mine's better."

"Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded beggar with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak.

I don't think Firefox automatically converts links (as they're posted), either [In reply to] Can't Post

At least it didn't back in the day when I was using it. I haven't used it for many years, now.

I use FIrefox and it doesn't make the links clickable automatically [In reply to] Can't Post

I use the advanced editor and use the link button to make my links clickable.

directions for Safari (or Chrome) = Basic Editor [In reply to] Can't Post

On Safari, you won't see many tools. Along the bottom of the compose field are these buttons.

1. Copy the url you want to link to

2. click the button that says "url"

3. Doing that will deposit this into your field:

4. Paste the url you copied after this code.

5. As an example, here's what I put there:

6. Look at the buttons you clicked before. The one that used to say "url" now says "/url"

7. click the button that says "/url"

8. doing that will deposit this:

...after the url you pasted making it look like this:

When that code gets activated, it looks like this: http://www.theonering.net/torwp/

alternately.. you can type that code. If you look at the top of your compose window, you'll see a link that says, "Get Markup Help". Markup is the type of code you are writing when you use square brackets. Click that link and look at the page. It will show you how to do lots of stuff there aren't buttons for.

Try those steps in a post in this thread and see if you can get them to work.

REGARDING YOUR LAPTOP WITH WINDOWS:
It has the capacity to run Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Chrome. If you have Chrome, you will follow the same directions as above for Safari.

If your your compose window on your laptop looks like this:

... then you using Advanced Editor on your laptop. If that's the case, let us know and someone will walk you through making a link with Advanced Editor.

Also works for Firefox, and (probably) all other browsers. [In reply to] Can't Post

Personally, I prefer the Basic Editor, and find this method a really easy way to insert links.
