ALS Ice Bucket Challenge Can't Post

A bit silly... but since it is connected to donations for ALS research and treatment, I guess it is fun ;)

Several LotR/Hobbit connected participants.

Sean Astin and Ed Sheeran already did videos, Benedict Cumberbatch and Luke Evans have been nominated (by Tom Hiddleston).

Look here.

"I am afraid it is only too likely to be true what you say about the critics and the public. I am dreading the publication for it will be impossible not to mind what is said. I have exposed my heart to be shot at." J.R.R. Tolkien

We all have our hearts and minds one way or another invested in these books and movies. So we all mind and should show the necessary respect.

apparently the ALS Foundation has already made more money from this than they usually get in a year [In reply to] Can't Post

I've seen people criticize it as trivial or silly, but it's working.

And I confess, I've watched a lot of the videos. Dave Bautista rules, so far.

Yes... [In reply to] Can't Post

... "trivial" was my first reaction.

But it turned out to work very well... with people from all corners participating.

There have been much worse social media phenomena for sure :)

I know some people argue that it is "wasting water". But I find that to be a rather bizarr argument given the amount of water actually used (and comapred to what we waste water for elsewhere).

The viral "No Make Up Selfie For Cancer Awareness" that also occured this year was great since it made so much money for Cancer Research UK, however, it quickly went down hill when it just became a craze/sensation. There comes a point when something like this looses its purpose and meaning, and just turns into a social media viral marketing attempt.

So yes, take part, but also donate.

(As long as it doesn't cause as much damage to the body as Neknominate does.)

Assorted ME actors' challenge in GIFs [In reply to] Can't Post

For denwyn
Since I got these in the Thranduil Appreciation thread too:
Got to say, Gandy's prima donna is showingTongue and can't wait for Andy Serkis': reckon he'd have to have 3 buckets: Andy, Smeagol, Gollum!

I'm a lurker. Fan of both books and movies; it seems I have severely misnamed myself... for the moment.

Heart Appreciating Thranduil, thread by thread: I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X
(Tis true! More appreciation threads for Thranduil exist than ME movies)

Laugh Thrall Wars!: What business do Elves, Dwarves or Men(?) have with drooling thralls, yea, with smartphones in tow, unto the slopes of Erebor? ... oh, yes, the Hobbit's lingering in some shadows, ever ready to swoop to the hairy rescue. Take cover if you dare!. (A tag-team fanfic with Avandel and Kerewyn)
Teh partsies: Prologue (aka the 'tater-mash of whatever came before), two, three, three-appendix: An Unexpected Flashback, four, five (new, posted 20 August)

Hah! [In reply to] Can't Post

A great compilation, thanks! Laugh

Now waiting for Andy's...do we know if anyone else has done it, yet? Hopefully Martin Freeman will not be nominated, he's recently gotten over being ill and I doubt it would be good for his health.

(I should think the Dwarves would find it not too dissimilar to what they went through filming the barrels-in-the-river scene!)
