I don't expect I'll be around as much as in the past, though. I found the boards too addictive, and I have so many other things I need/want to spend time on. It's good and reassuring to see familiar names after all this time -- I love knowing that TORn is always there if I want to visit.

as Aragorn, the part he auditioned for in the first place. But after a rough start, Viggo won me over. I can't see anyone else as Frodo, Gandalf, Bilbo, Galadriel, or Elrond. I'd entertain alternatives for Arwen (who to me is not classically beautiful enough) and Eowyn (who does not look athletic enough), though I don't have any suggestions myself. I see a Bean Aragorn not quite having the gravitas of Viggo but potentially being more effective at playing up the uncertainy in the character that the films hinted more strongly at than the books. If Bean had been Aragorn I could have imagined Ralph Fiennes as Boromir.

are strong enough actors to have portrayed whatever degree of gravitas or uncertainty was asked of them. My problem was more with appearance — Viggo initially struck me as too "pretty" and not rugged enough for the part. It also didn't help that he was a late addition to the cast and took a while to find his feet during filming of FOTR. But I thought he grew into the role, and his total commitment paid off. My image of Sean Bean was formed mostly from "Sharpe," so it was very easy to envision him as Aragorn, though, of course, he did a fantastic job as Boromir. (Hmmm, I think it might be about time for me to rewatch "Sharpe"!)

I feel with Sean Connery you would not see Gandalf but you would simply see Sean Connery. Also much as I think Bernard Hill is a great actor I imagined Théoden to be a little less harsh -if that is the right word- more as he was portrayed by Jack May in the BBC audio dramatisation.
