are those coffins? [In reply to] Can't Post

it almost looks like a table to me- also different from Balin's stone coffin in FOTR (that one looked like a solid block of stone up on a small dais- not with a gap between it and the floor).

Maybe not a coffin.. [In reply to] Can't Post

but aren't there three bodies lying on that table? Or am I imagining things now? Oo

I can almost see what you mean [In reply to] Can't Post

but there are thick webs hanging from that old lantern post toward the table, and it's awfully dusty in there.

Perhaps they are very old bodies from before Erebor was attacked? Or maybe they aren't at all- the picture isn't exactly very clear Crazy

Yes, wrapped bodies laid out, as if on a bier... // [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm not sure [In reply to] Can't Post

I agree with you in that the central object illuminated by light appears to be one or more tables covered in white cloth standing under that statue and flanked by chairs/benches. The question is: are we seeing the remains of (possibly) the "last supper" of Thorin&co before battle or the setup of a dwarven wake post-battle? The former doesn't agree with book events (Bilbo would have been with the elves at this point) and were it the latter then you would expect more people milling about.

Utterly cryptic!

"After all, I believe that legends and myths are largely made of 'truth', and indeed present aspects of it that can only be received in this mode; and long ago certain truths and modes of this kind were discovered and must always reappear." Professor Tolkien, 1951

I was [In reply to] Can't Post

puzzling over that myself. The table or slab looks a little small for 3 bodies if that is what is supposed to be on it.

These aren't coffins... [In reply to] Can't Post

At least, Thorin seems to be alive and well in the next scene:

3 bodies? (Spoiler) [In reply to] Can't Post

Well they ARE dwarves, after all. I wish I could compare this to a screencap from AUJ where Thror is sitting on his throne flanked by Thrain and Thorin while Thranduil is coming (wow, lots of "Th's" in those names). That piece of furniture on the right could be his throne, but I'm not sure. Then there's that white statue-looking thing, really out of place in that dark room. Maybe it's Thorin's Sarcophagus?

Oh come on, we all know how this will end/sniff Unsure

Meh. I don't see it. [In reply to] Can't Post

The bodies or the coffins. I see tables with something on them...it just doesn't look like bodies to me. *shrugs*

The clips from the trailer [In reply to] Can't Post

are out of order and not in sequence. So when the shot of Thorin appears in the film in relationship to the shot of the "table" is unknown.
