I want your input on something I'm not sure I get right...
How come was the ring so powerful to influence Smeagol in killing Deagol in just a few minutes ?
Was it that Smeagol was a weaker mind that Bilbo and Frodo ? Was it that the ring wanted so badly to be found that it had a sudden burst of "power" ?
What do you guys think ?

I think Gollum was particularly weak minded which led to him being very easily influenced. I think Gollum already had the makings of a trouble maker and it didnt take much to push him over the edge. As for the Ring maybe it was part of the overall "plan" to be found so it made sure it found someone like Gollum who would be sure to fall to the temptation.

Smeagol had an inbred evil streak which The Ring delighted in and imposed its will.
But, after all it was Smeagol's birthday.

There's a passage in the book that touches on this. In FOTR - Shadow of the Past - Chapter 2, Gandalf says about the Ring's effects:
"Yes, sooner or later – later, if he is strong or well-meaning to begin with, but neither strength nor good purpose will last – sooner or later the dark power will devour him."
So since Gandalf is saying it will take a while for the Ring to affect the person if they are 'strong or well-meaning to begin with', then we can assume the opposite it true, and that since it affected Smeagol immediately and in such a bad way, he must have been weak and had a bad streak to begin with.

Tolkien, in one of his Letters, indicates that Sméagol was a nasty sort of fellow even before the Ring came along. He was easy prey for the Ring.
