***Fellowship of the Ring Anniversary: Bilbo's Brainteaser!
|

|
Welcome to a special Fellowship of the Ring Anniversary edition of Bilbo's Brainteasers! (Back in the early days of TORn, Altaira (and Bilbo) would pose a weekly Brainteaser puzzle.) Below are ten places or features in Middle-earth, and which are mentioned in Fellowship of the Ring. You need to figure out what each is, from the riddle provided. For clues, three letters are already given. Try this closed-book! (But you can peek, if you really need to. ) Have fun! Remember, do NOT put any answers in your subject line! I'll post the answers in a couple of days. 1. Beware when you cross; this mountain is cruel! _ _ R _ _ H _ A _ 2. In the midst of its bridge, was left a green jewel. M _ _ H _ _ T _ _ _ 3. Lillies afloat, it winds through the Old Forest. _ _ _ _ Y _ _ N _ _ E 4. For singing and stories, or simply more rest! _ I _ _ N _ _ L _ 5. Darkness and stillness, you dare make no sound... _ _ _ Z _ D - D _ _ 6. In a dark, cold crypt, Frodo's courage was found! _ A _ _ O _ - _ _ W_ _ 7. Listen: do you hear a fair maiden sing? _ _ M _ O _ E _ 8. A throne and a sceptre, the signs of the King. A _ _ _ M _ _ A _ 9. Bright sky shines above, yet but stars will you see... _ _ R _ _ R _ _ R _ 10. Home sweet home, near a fine Party Tree! _ A _ ... E _ D

In the original Brainteasers, five points were awarded for each correct answer, with IEC (Invisible Extra Credit) awarded at the whim of the quizmistress for, ah, "imaginative" answers. Hmm...maybe I should do that, here...

I wasn't paying enough attention and got #3 wrong as well. Should be Withywindle, not Brandywine.

Well done, everyone, I'd glad you had some fun with this! No, no, I'm not "taking over" this game...this is just one of the brainteasers I'd made up for one of those times Altaira had let me sub for her. And there's plenty of room on these Boards for more than one MadLib writer! Indeed, I do believe there's a couple of other TORnfolks who've posted these in the past. The more, the merrier, as they say!
