DOS Chapter of the Week (CHOW) Sign-up for August 2014!

Chapter of the Week (CHOW) is an ongoing discussion on The Hobbit movies. For August, the following chapters will be discussed by our leaders: 11. Weekend of August 1st - King and Captain ----> BlackFox 00:39:38 - 00:41:29 12. Weekend of August 8th - Feast of Starlight ----> Noria 00:41:29 - 00:44:27 13. Weekend of August 15th - Barrels out of Bond ----> Queen of Erebor 00:44:27 - 00:55:01 14. Weekend of August 22nd - The High Fells ----> NoelGallagher 00:55:01 - 00:58:41 15. Weekend of August 29th - Bard the Bowman ----> DaughterofLaketown 00:58:41 - 01:02:05 To avoid any confusion, the approximate start and end times are given. Each host will make one thread each week on their chosen film chapter (ideally during the weekend - anytime between Friday to Sunday inclusive). Please do not post a CHOW thread unless you have already signed up, or notified cats16 or DanielLB first. We will return to the extended edition of the film in the future. In the meantime, all chapter titles refer to the theatrical version only. Volunteers choose their chapter on a first-come-first-serve basis, so get in there quickly if you want to host a particular chapter. If you have already hosted a CHOW, you are more than welcome to volunteer again, but be sure to give everyone an opportunity to host first. Just respond to this thread with which chapter you would like to host. If you miss this sign-up, don't worry! There are plenty of chapters left. If in doubt which chapter is which, consult your DVD (hopefully you own it, or PM either cats16 or DanielLB.) Each person will be assigned a DVD chapter, seen above. For your chosen chapter, we will leave the discussion up to you! It really is an open book, so we don't want to restrict anyone. Some suggestions might be: - The use of CGI in the scene (or even HFR, if you can remember what it was like) - The score and the soundtrack - The props, sets and landscapes in the scene - The costumes we see in the film - The actors and acting - General scene setups - Differences from book - A comparison with animated film - A comparison with The Lord of the Rings films You can ask as little or as many questions as you like. Have fun, and enjoy! You can also choose screencaps for your part, and we recommend this website. Magpie has provided an excellent tutorial in image posting on TORn that can be found here. Please also make sure all screencaps stay within TORn's Term of Service (see 2.20). When posting your thread, please include "Chapter of the Week: [Insert Chapter Title Here]", so that they are easy to find on a rather fast moving board. We hope you enjoy all the discussions. And Magpie has provided an excellent tutorial in image posting on TORn that can be found here. In summary: Basic Editor Mode Using an image from the internet: 1. Copy the picture link 2. In the post window, type something like this: {image}http://file.jpg{/image} But replace curly brackets {} with square brackets []. Obviously, replace http://file.jpg with the actual file name. Using an image from your computer: 1. Click Choose File and pick your file 2. Tick "Inline" 3. Press "Upload attachment" 4. In the post window, type something like this: {inline file.png} But replace curly brackets {} with square brackets []. Obviously, replace file.png with the actual file name. Advanced Editor Mode Using an image from the internet: 1. Just under the "Subject" line, there are a number of formatting buttons. Find the one that looks like a window and click it. 2. Copy and paste the picture link into the image location box, and hit submit. Using an image from your computer: 1. Click Choose File and pick your file 2. Tick "Inline" 3. Press "Upload attachment" 4. Just under the "Subject" line, there are a number of formatting buttons. Find the one that looks like a window and click it. 5. Click "Inline Image" and chose your file. You don't have to include embedded images in your thread - links to pictures work just as well. I hope that helps.

Hey, guys! No, your eyes are not cheated by some spell - it's me again, wishing to lead yet another chapter. I'd be happy to do "King and Captain" (if you haven't grown hopelessly tired of my CHOWs and would rather have me not, of course.)

I just did a CHOW a couple of weeks ago but if no one else steps forward, I'm willing to do either of the remaining chapters. I find these discussions interesting and enjoy examining every scene in detail so I'd be sorry see CHOW die.

Plus, all the emphasis seems to be on BOFA at the moment (rightly so). I'm sure CHOW will pick back up once summer winds down.

I had trouble relocating this post for some reason so sorry so late. I only had a few questions first. When you say 15 as the first number for my time does that mean I need to start posting on that day? And when you say every week on on their chosen chapter does that mean that I am supposed to post each weekend from the fifteenth through the twenty ninth? I have never done this before so please excuse my ignorance. I just wanted to be sure I knew what I was doing ahead of time.

15 just refers to the number of your chapter, Bard the Bowman. CHOW threads are typically posted over the weekend, but it is entirely down to your real life schedule when you post it. So use "Weekend of August 29th" as a guide - you can post your CHOW thread on 29th, 30th, 31st or 1st September. You can post it even later than that, but before 5th September when the next CHOW leader will take over. You just have to post one CHOW thread on one day. If it helps, peruse the TORn Mathom-house article on CHOW. In that link you'll find all the previous CHOW threads, so it may give you an idea of structure, length etc. Does that make sense?

You can pose as many or as few questions as you like, and screencaps are optional. If it helps, peruse the TORn Mathom-house article on CHOW. In that link you'll find all the previous CHOW threads, so it may give you an idea of structure, length etc. Thanks Spriggan.
