I WISH I worked in film (though, I don't think I could endure sixteen-hour days). Actually, I've just realized that I wasn't built for movie making at all (ANY position). I don't possess the ingenuity nor the patience. I'd likely burn out after one shift. Then there's all those details to keep track of. I mean, there are more challenging fields and I'm sure there's plenty of fun to be had on set. I don't know. I probably seem like the laziest guy around now. Anyway, you know a thing or two about the Great White North. In fact, you know about as much as I do when it comes to the industry up here.
"Keen Observer" (HERE, on TORn TV?) livezz in Vancouver..(works in Film, there) .He would know more? I have to ask, is being a stagehand hard work or the best job in the world? You are a stagehand, right?

The new NATO (theater owners) guidelines about trailers being under 2 minutes. That's likely at play here, as well.

Is the purpose of keeping trailers under 2 min? Is it just because theaters want to cram more of them in before movies?
How many Tolkien fans does it take to change a light bulb? "Change? Oh my god, what do you mean change?! Never, never, never......"

...a majority of the trailers listed on that Alberta Film Ratings page are well over two minutes?
"The danger with any movie that does as well as this one does is that the amount of money it's making and the number of awards that it's got becomes almost more important than the movie itself in people's minds. I look at that as, in a sense, being very much like the Ring, and its effect on people. You know, you can kind of forget what we were doing, if you get too wrapped up in that." - Viggo Mortensen

I believe it's not necessarily more trailers, but more advertisements in front of them, they find desirous.

My understanding is that not every theater chain is on-board with the guidelines (which are, and remain, only guidelines). Cinemark has rejected them publicly, for example, but AMC Theaters has been one of their biggest champions. So--I think!--studios and chains work on a sort of film-by-film basis, with some being geared toward the guidelines, and some not, with each chain having the ability to decide how to proceed with the implementation of their own policies. It's confusing, but that's the best explanation I have been able to decipher. Ah, found an article that I was indirectly paraphrasing I'm not sure what has happened since this article was published, but that is what I know to be the general status of things: http://variety.com/...trailers-1201078150/ Glor, if you're around, I believe this is something up your alley. Apologies in advance if I have misconstrued any of the information out there! Just going off of my memory, and this possibly-out-of-date article. Edit: And also, trailers listed as "Trailer #3" aren't necessarily guaranteed for a theatrical showing. Anymore, there seems to be an initial teaser 5 or 6 months out, an official one about 3 months out, and a third one 3 or 4 weeks (or sometimes even sooner) away from the release. There have even been four, sometimes it being a very slight variant of the second or third. And then there are the series of minute-long clips/featurettes/promo ads that come in the one or two weeks before release. And then there's the international markets too, which have their own policies.

I suspected that. Congrats! I had no idea that stagehand work could be dangerous. Fatalities and incapacitations? I'm glad you survived, Bombzy. Kudos to you for making it happen and making it out. You're right; the general audience usually doesn't consider the amount of work and resource that goes into a production. And you're also right when you say:
ENJOY it.. Don't even think about WHAT it TOOK to make it? And I agree with this:
Love is all you...need WHEN you buy your TICKET in December Oh, I'll be spreading that LOVE before, during, and after each showing. I'll subdue the overly critical and the bitterly hateful with its power. And it's going to be heightened by that Christmas cheer. BTW, I've found your posts to be thoroughly amusing and just laugh-out-loud funny as of late (more so than usual). Actually, just about everyone here has managed to crack me up these past few days. This board is so lively and so lovely. Thanks for the laughs guys! Keep it up and don't ever stop being yourselves.

You knew there was a film coming in December, so there was going to be a trailer sometime, wasn't there? And we are only in July. Give it a few days and everyone will be calling out for the next thing!

Each province has its own ratings board and Alberta's is kind enough to post their ratings of films and trailers as they finish rating them. Ah, that's the difference then. I knew each province (and presumably territory) has it's own ratings board but get it now that Alberta is the only one to post their trailer ratings, at least right away. I wonder if they know how avidly the site is watched and their postings consumed by thousands of fans.
