Do you have a personal anthem/theme song? (A music thread of sorts)

I don't necessarily mean a favorite song, but rather one that reflects your attitude towards a certain situation or your general outlook on life. Or maybe one that inspires you when things are tough. Okay, don't laugh, but mine is Fighter by Christine Aguilera. I've not been "done wrong" by someone; but I have a medical condition that, though I'd much rather do without, I am in a way grateful to for the strength it's shown me I possess. So do any of you have an anthem? They can be silly or serious.

That's an excellent choice! One of Bowie's best, which is saying something considering how many fantastic songs he's put out.

what a great question, thanks for posing it, zarabia. mine, most firmly, would be the battle of the pelennor fields, with the lighting of the beacons as a prelude. i'd also say it's the battle of the pelennor fields right through the houses of healing. i have a long anthem. cheers -- .
aka. fili orc-enshield +++++++++++++++++++ the scene, as i understand it, is exceptionally well-written. fili (in sort of a callback to the scene with the eagles), calls out "thorRIIIIIIN!!!" just as he sees the pale orc veer in for the kill. he picks up the severed arm of an orc which is lying on the ground, swings it up in desperation, effectively blocking the pale orc's blow. and thus, forever after, fili is known as "fili orc-enshield." this earns him deep respect from his hard-to-please uncle. as well as a hug. kili wipes his boots on the pale orc's glory box. -- maciliel telpemairo

About a million years ago- I have never found the authors if anyone knows more about this song please let me know. The song's refrain: One for the money, two for the show, three to get ready as off into the world I go The verses tell of the butcher, the baker and the candlestick maker If I were a butcher I would be able to set the world down at my table. I'd work all night and not go to bed til the world was the color of the very well fed. If I were a baker in a bakery shoppe I'd work all night and never stop til all the world had cookies and pies and love was the color of the children's eyes. A candlestick maker I shall be and light a candle for the world to see and one fine day when the darkness is gone the world will be the color of dawn Not sure I've lived up to he ideals during my life but I've tried

The Happy Man which is a traditional English song often used for Morris Dancing. How happy's that man that's free from all care That loves to make merry, that loves to make merry O'er a drop of good beer With his pipe and his friends puffing hours away Singing song after song 'till he hails the new day He can laugh, dance and sing and smoke without fear, Be as happy as a king 'till he hails a new year. It's a bit dated (who smokes a pipe anymore) and male skewed, but I relate to the state of mind and camaraderie it promotes. I paired it with a quote from the Hobbit: If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world. ...in my Tolkien quote cards project. You can see the lyrics for the entire song and listen to it by visiting this page of my website:http://www.amagpiesnest.com/a/quotecards/41.htm The bells you hear in the song are the ones tied to the legs of the Morris Dancers and the clacking is the striking of their sticks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GaB-NHVMoOw

The closest thing I have to a personal anthem is probably "I Won't Back Down" by Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers. It represents an ideal that I would like to live up to more often.

though my favorite song of all time is "Over the Rainbow'. A while back my daughter and I each sat down and made up a list of songs that we called our personal hymnals. Here was my list, divided into songs that aren't really hymns but feel like it, and actual hymns: Not-really-hymns: Over the Rainbow Handyman Bridge Over Troubled Waters Rainbow Connection Bitola [a Macedonian folk dance song of longing for a hometown] Kendime [a Turkish folk dance song about being true to one's self] In Western Lands [Sam's song of hope in Mordor] Under African Skies [from Graceland. The wordless chorus is what transports me] Gonzo's Wishing Song I See the Light [from Tangled] There's a Light [from Rocky Horror Picture Show] Well I Wonder [from Cotton Patch Gospel] Iridescent [Linkin Park] Row On ["Row on, another day may shine with brighter light. Ply, ply the oars and pull away; there's dawn beyond the night."] Song of Seikilos Always Look on the Bright Side of Life Hymns: We are a Gentle Angry People [we sang this at the candlelight vigil for Matt Shepard when he was dying] Dona Nobis Pacem [we sang this at the candlelight vigil for Matt Shepard when he was dying] O We Give Thanks for this Precious Day [I sang this to my mom before she died] May We Have Safe Passage [I sang this to my mom just after she died] How Great Thou Art [sung at services for my great-grandmother and my two grandmothers] This is my Song, Oh God of all the Nations [we sang this at Buckhorn after 9-11] May Nothing Evil Cross this Door [we sang this after Columbine and 9-11] Amazing Grace [we sang this when Tom Sutherland came home from captivity] A Long Long Way the Sea-Winds Blow This is my Father's [or Mother's] World Abide With Me Now on Land and Sea Descending Now the Green Blade Riseth Be Thou my Vision God of Grace and God of Glory Stables [Peter Mayer's great Christmas carol] Blue Boat Home Lord of the Dance Lady of the Seasons' Laughter We Shall Overcome There's a River Flowing in my Soul There is More Love Somewhere How Can I Keep from Singing Long Live God [from Godspell]

Little Wonders when I need to remember to enjoy the small moments of life Drops of Jupiter for when I'm missing someone I've lost. it was written after the composer lost his mother to cancer You Raise Me Up This one is interesting and seems to have very very different meanings to different people. For me it reminds me that my children rely on me and I cannot fail. Defying Gravity for when this small town really gets me down La Vie Boheme from Rent (language/content warning) ditto above. And while I don't necessarily advocate all that goes on in the song, "To being an us for once, instead of a them..." strikes a chord Listen Just because sometimes I need the reminder Vincent because there is usually more to someone than what we see initially Broadway so I can remember the resilience of my hometown roots. It's actually about Buffalo, NY and the closing of the steel mills and auto plants.

I posted the words on facebook asking for group wisdom to help me identify it (that seems to be the best way to get obscure information). Nobody knows it, but they want to know the tune. Is there any way you could think of to share that? I understand abc tune notation, or maybe you could make a quick recording and send it to me some time.
