w? this FILM... Oh yeah, definitely. At least in my personal opinion. I watched the Dracula trailer just to see the bats and respond to this thread. It wasn't too bad, but the part where Luke Evens seeks out Dracula and drinks his blood to become like him...Um...Eeeeeww.
That is to say that even if other people like the bats in Dracula better, I will prefer the bats in the Hobbit. Even if they're vampire bats like in the book, at least they don't have a (albeit handsome )blood-sucking, neck biting, dude controlling their every move and using them collectively to form massive fists and pummel the opposition. In fact, I think that will be one of the big differences between the bats of Dracula and the bats of the Hobbit. The bats in Dracula are being collectively controlled by one person, they're not acting on their own. In the Hobbit, the bats may very well be loyal to the bad guys, but I believe, similar the wargs (and the eagles for that matter) they will be making their own decisions on whether or not to attack together or individually.
If the battle anything like I imagine it in the book, the bats will start by making the sky dark as a group and then individual bats will dive dramatically out of the bat-cloud and attack various good guys on the ground. Ouch!
