Any idea about the end credits song for BOT5A?

What sort of tone do you think the end song should have? Will it be sad or joyous? Male or female vocal? Subtle or bold? I'm thinking it shouldnt be too "end of an era" as it wont blend well being the 3rd of a hexalogy. Will we here any news on this soon? Who remembers when we first got news of Ed Sheeran last year?
'And I name you elf-friend and blessed. May your shadow never grow less (or stealing would be too easy)!'

It was rumored that Enya will record the final song. We learned of I See Fire fairly late if I can recall

I've thought a bit about this as well since DOS. I want something in the vein of Into the West. When I say that I want something that just hits you emotionally. It's got a beautiful sound, words, emotions, and those end credits. Give me something in the same neighborhood as that.

We didn't know it was Sheeran until the album listing came out sometime in early November I think it was. Neil Finn we found out about in September 2012 through other means.

Which would TIE Both Trilogies Together.. as IF...she is THE ONE... helping Bilbo & Frodo tell the Entire Story... WITH some..."Carmina Burana" type of All FULLOrchestra "Greogian Chant" Choral SINGING? Please (PJ)..some, ...Some REALLY MASSIVE... Chanting? Especially if it was recorded in The Town Hall of Wellington... (Bomby & Many of you? May be hiding under YOUR Seat? crying.. for an hour.)

I love all the 5 ending songs so far, with "May it be" as my #1 (closely followed by Song of the Lonely Mountain). It would be very fitting if she performed the last Tolkien-movie-song in our lifetime!

And you have to use the same style credits that they used for RotK.
How many Tolkien fans does it take to change a light bulb? "Change? Oh my god, what do you mean change?! Never, never, never......"

It's another one of those happy/sad endings, plus we already know that the story continues in 60 years, so I will be very intrigued to see how they handle this. Also, this could be a brilliant place to use "The Road Goes Ever On".
And once again the world has not arranged itself just for me.

Petition to include sketches in the BOFA credits like RotK...

would anyone like to start a petition so that Jackson could make the BOFA credits like the RotK ones with the parchment-type background and portraits of the characters (we could have the key of Erebor in the background just like the One Ring was there in RotK). Of course, if PJ has already made up his mind on how to do the credits then this won't matter. But if enough signatures are gathered, this might get their attention (we know two previous petitions have caught his eye, if not his approval) and PJ might actually like the idea this time, given that it also bridges the two trilogies. I would have started it but I have no experience on such a matter. What say you?

... just as you've described. The credits of RotK were perfect. But I doubt if a petition would make any difference. I'm sure Peter Jackson and his people will have their own ideas about what to do. He may well have decided to have sketches again - after all, it was his/his team's idea in the first place, and I've never heard anyone say they didn't like it. But it is their decision. I'm guessing that a petition would be pointless if they've decided to do this already, and useless if they've decided to do something else.

I think it was Daniel Reeve who mentioned them in an interview a while back, that he'd drawn the character sketches, just in case they wanted to use them.

It would also tie very nicely into the opening scenes of FOTR when Gandalf is quietly singing it to himself whilst driving his cart into Hobbiton

Something more "world music", less "acoustic singer-songwriter"...

The Ed Sheeran song felt very out of place to me, it was too much of a pop song. I'd like to see Peter Gabriel do it, but ain't gonna happen. Enya would be a great choice too.

I think the end credit song should be based on Bilbo's bit of verse (which he, himself, later turned into a song), perhaps written and performed by Sting. It could include Frodo's later additions/deviations.

Sting is heavily into world music and archaic instruments. I could easily see him performing the end credits song.
