He had a varied career but I remember him most from The Notebook - his portrayal of a husband trying every day to connect with his memory-affected wife was heartbreaking. http://www.stuff.co.nz/...nd-James-Garner-dies
Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..." Dwarves: "Pretty rings..." Men: "Pretty rings..." Sauron: "Mine's better." "Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded beggar with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak. was Lt. Cmdr. Charles Madison in The Americanization of Emily. It is such a gem of a movie, not remembered much but it was the first time he and Julie Andrews worked with each other. The second was another movie I loved, Victor/Victoria. I also like him in Space Cowboys. One of the funniest scenes has to be James Garner's and Tommy Lee Jones' bench press scene. That scene has me laughing every time! Variety said it best in this article... " Tom Selleck is fond of saying that every actor should take “star lessons” from James Garner. Having worked with Garner on “The Rockford Files” very early in his career, Selleck noticed that Garner realized the star’s demeanor had a ripple effect on the set, establishing a tone for everyone else’s behavior." I had a crush on Jim Rockford when I was younger. All six seasons of the Rockford Files stream on Netflix... just sayin'...

is probably the charming rogue "scrounger" in The Great Escape. He was so good at those roles.

He was one of those who made me proud to be an Okie. He had many of the same qualities that made Will Rogers great, but he was a one of a kind. Like many here, I have fond - if a bit fuzzy - memories of Rockford Files. According to NPR, he did his own stunt driving after the producers realized he was better than the actual stunt drivers. He even has a stunt named for him, the Rockford. I also loved him in Support Your Local Sheriff and Support Your Local Gunfighter. Two, I guess you could call them, screwball westerns.

I enjoyed a lot of his work. Rockford Files Maverick The Great Escape Victor/Victoria Great actor and from the stories, it sounds like he was a great man. Rest in peace, sir.
