I'd love a tall mocha frappuccino, please! Trying to finish up with a bunch of tasks I've set for myself here at work, before it's time to head off for the weekend. My youngest and her friend are visiting from Chicago. Today they've headed by train to Beantown to take a "walking tour" (the best way to get around Boston) and pick up an old school chum, who'll come back with them - it'll be a very full house tonight! And tomorrow is the town's own annual "holiday". The main street will be blocked off with all sorts of vendors and games, and the carnival rides will be set up and running on one of our "greens", and the day will end with spectacular fireworks at the beach! What's the cooler weather been doing, out your way? Any frost in the mornings?

Hey, gramma! I hope you're enjoying your summer. The Gaffer and I caught a summer virus a couple of weeks ago and are still coughing and blowing, but other than that we're enjoying an unusually quiet---and unusually cool ---summer, with moments of catching up with family and friends. I'm contemplating getting some renovations done to the house, which is pretty intimidating. But after 11 years there are things that need to be tidied up. It's actually too chilly here for my usual summertime Frappuccino, so I'll take a mocha latte and a nice maple scone, please, and settle down with FotR. I'm listening to the soundtrack now---wonderful, wonderful music. Thanks ever so much, gramma, and have a great weekend! *stuffs tip jar with musical notes and all the letters of the alphabet*
Where now the horse and the rider? Where is the horn that was blowing? Where is the helm and the hauberk, and the bright hair flowing? Where is the hand on the harpstring, and the red fire glowing? Where is the spring and the harvest and the tall corn growing? They have passed like rain on the mountain, like a wind in the meadow; The days have gone down in the West behind the hills into shadow....

I haven't been in Boston in ages and ages and would love to do a walking tour of the historical sites and the gardens. Maybe one of these days I'll make it back up that way. Your town's holiday sounds like great fun, too. We saw some fireworks at a beach on the Fourth. Unfortunately it was a beach on the Gulf of Mexico and hotter than the hinges of you-know-what, with mosquitos thrown in just for spice! Have a great weekend

Summer colds should be outlawed... it's just not fair! Music, mocha and muffins are the best cure, though :) I get all teary whenever I listen to the soundtracks. My g'daughter is coming for a visit pretty soon, and we're already lining up an EEDVD marathon of LotR with a Hobbit chaser ;) Good luck on the renno ideas. Very intimidating, fresher! My whole house needs one ;) Have a GREAT weekend, m'dear!

There have been downpours and floods south of us, and most recently north of us, but we haven't gotten that much water here at Bag End. Which is probably just as well! Treebeard and Quickbeam, the bur oaks in our front yard, seem to be doing just fine with what we have gotten---there's even a dove's nest in Treebeard.

Our old DVD player died in the middle of DoS and the Gaffer had to literally disassemble it in order to extract the DVD! We've now got a new one and will be picking up where we left off very soon now. A marathon might really test it out!

we do have to watch out for "beach flies", the little gnatty things - always put on bug spray before heading for the sand! I walked the "Freedom Trail" years ago, with a school group. As long as the weather's good, it's a great way to see the entire town! And when the kids were very little, we'd take the train to the Children's Museum there, it was a short walk from South Station. And the weather's supposed to be excellent this weekend!

Happy Friday gramma, and everyone. I pre-prepared my drink if you don't mind. Since we were expecting temperatures in 30degC range today, I froze some peach juice overnight, which I'm now currently holding to cool me down. And since we've got such hot weather over here, we've been having a lot of thunderstorms as well. We both woke up in the night to a lot of noise. 3000 strikes in 2 hours, apparently. And we can expect more later on. The weekend is supposed to warm and thundery again. It ruins our plans for tomorrow, and we're supposed to be going to a BBQ on Sunday too. Yikes. 11 weeks until baby DLB arrives. Where has the time gone?! My other half is suffering even more than me in this weather. She's still working, and there's no let up in the ED department at the moment. We're just about ready to start with the nursery, so that will keep us (me) occupied for a while. Have a great weekend everyone. I'm looking forward to the 60th Anniversary party celebrations. Thank you for organising us all.

Grandparents are coming in and we're going to build a sandbox for him.
For instance, on the planet Earth, man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much -- the wheel, New York, wars, and so on -- while all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time. But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man, for precisely the same reasons. -- Douglas Adams

Well, it's when I melt! My brother who lives in Texas might think nothing of temps like that, but that kind of heat should be outlawed, if you ask me. I sympathize with your partner, I was 8 months pregnant with my first child during a very hot August and it was no fun, not at all, precious. Be careful with those storms. Any problems with the electric going out?

Baseball season, that is...at least until fall ball starts next month. Well, it's not as exciting as the 60th anniversary of the publication of FOTR, but I must celebrate having my summer back! How about something well-chilled and bubbly, gramma? My son's 9-yr.-old all-star team made it to states, where they promptly got soundly trounced by last year's state champs. Ouch! Our boys almost beat the state runner-ups, and then won their next two games, so the tournament wasn't so bad. The worst was trying to wash the "white" baseball pants in the bathroom sink at the hotel, since no laundry was available there! And my daughter and I took a jaunt over to the beach for a day, so it didn't turn out all bad. And it was great to see the boys really bond and work together. It was a great experience for them. But now we are concentrating on finally having a summer, with sleeping in, no games to get to every night or laundry to do before morning! Hope all is well with you, gramma!

That very morning my husband fell off a ladder, and ended up in hospital for 5 days. He broke five ribs, three of them in two places, bruised his heart, liver and lungs, plus a load of road rash on his face. At first he was adamant that I not call the ambulance, but I could see him deteriorating so I called them anyway. He's home now. but moving very gingerly and sleeping a lot. They kept him in mostly because of his heart, but it eventually settled down. I'm really tired, I don't appreciate everything he does around her, but I sure do now! I do have help from my kids but they all have jobs too. Things are getting better though, so I think a good strong coffee to keep me going would be in order, Gramma, thanks!
