TORn Amateur Symposium: First Reminder Thread Can't Post

We have already had a fantastic amount of interest in the fourth TORn Amateur Symposium! You still have (just under) a month to express interest in writing for us, and to submit your essay. Here are the key deadlines:

Wednesday, July 2nd - First reminder thread - That's this one!

This will be a reminder thread for everyone, and we will provide a link to the Call thread below, which supplies all the details of TAS4. You can express interest in submitting an essay all the way until the closing date. So we want to make sure everyone has had a chance to think about writing an essay.

Tuesday, July 15th - Second reminder thread

This is the last reminder thread and not the closing date. Between this thread and the first reminder thread, we would like to confirm with you your proposed topic and possible title (via PM). These will all be included in this thread. People are welcome to express interest all the way up until the closing date.

Tuesday, July 22nd – Submission closes thread

By this date, all submissions will have been sent to us (see “How To Submit Work”). Another summary of all the entries (and provisional dates) will also be posted.

The week period between this allows us to check all submissions, order all essays into appropriate sessions, and allow for last minute editing. If you are unable to submit before then, not to worry: there is always the next TAS (July) which will be a special, Lord of the Rings themed 'Jubilee Anniversary TAS' to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the publishing of The Fellowship of the Ring.

Friday, July 25th - Anything after this date will, unfortunately, not be accepted.

Tuesday, July 29th - First TAS thread!

All those hours of hard work from everyone will be presented on this date, and the following days!

TBD, in August- Feedback thread

As part of the symposium structure, we are always interested in ideas on what can (or should) be done, and what may or may not have worked. Feel free to tell us what you thought about the structure of the symposium, and any problems you experienced through this process. We will also tell you about the next TAS and provisional dates. The date for the feedback thread will be confirmed once we know how we are going to stagger each of the essays.

And here is the original Call for Submissions thread, if you want to refresh your memory on how to submit, etc.

Thank you to everyone already that has already expressed interest, and for those that have already submitted. Please feel free to use this thread to ask us any questions, or to let us know how your essay is coming along. If you haven't yet told us you would like to write an essay for TAS3, feel free to reply to this thread with your essay idea. If you have any queries, questions or suggestions, please do not hesitate to ask. Simply ask in this thread, PM the TAS TORn account, email us at tornamateursymposium@gmail.com, or contact elaen32, Brethil or DanielLB.

Thank you to everyone. And happy scribbling! Smile

Second Reminder Thread! *Closing date reminder* [In reply to] Can't Post

Since the First Reminder Thread is on page 1, I'll place this here:

This is a reminder that submission of essays closes on Tuesday 22nd July. Since we're all spread across different timezones, there is no specific time for submission and will be lenient.

We will post a thread on Tuesday 22nd July confirming that submission has closed. In this thread, we will probably confirm submitted essays - including titles and authors.

A reminder of how to submit your essay:

**Please fill out the following form**
Submit your essay here

To submit your essay, fill out all necessary fields. If you have any difficulties with this form, please submit your esssay via our email address (tornamateursymposium@gmail.com) or send us a PM via the forum. We also appreciate any comments about this new way of submitting essays, so feel free to send us any feedback to our email address or TORn account. We will get back to you as quick as possible regarding edits. We will confirm the date of your essay being posted by Saturday, July 26th.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to PM (or email us). As always, if you cannot submit in time, do not worry - we are planning another symposium in the autumn/winter and you can always submit your work to that symposium.

After the closing date, there is a one week reviewing period. During this time, we'll contact all authors that have submitted making sure if any edits are required. We *will* accept late submissions, but would obviously prefer if people could submit on time. Anything after Friday 25th July will, unfortunately, not be accepted. Authors will be able to check/edit their essays at anytime, and we will send them a link to their essay as well.

On Tuesday 29th July, the first TAS will take place. All essays are hosted on GoogleDocs, so al link will be provided. There will also be an official TAS thread, welcoming everyone, and providing links to each of the different essays.

After the TAS4 finishes, there will be a follow-up feedback thread. As part of the symposium structure, we are always interested in ideas on what can (or should) be done, and what may or may not have worked. Feel free to tell us what you thought about the structure of the symposium, and any problems you experienced through this process. We will also tell you about the next TAS and provisional dates.

We're really looking forward to this, and we hope you are too. We've had some great essays in, and look forward to the discussions that will arise.

The TAS Team
(elaen, Brethil and Daniel)

Arthur Martine

"nowimë I am in the West, Furincurunir to the Dwarves (or at least, to their best friend) and by other names in other lands. Mostly they just say 'Oh no it's him - look busy!' "
Or "Hold off! unhand me, grey-beard loon!"

Submission closes today! [In reply to] Can't Post

Please submit your pieces via our online submission form, here. Alternatively, send your essay to the TAS email address, which is tornamateursymposium@gmail.com.

If possible, submit your pieces as Word or other document format attached to your email, rather than in the body of the email. If possible, please submit your abstract within the body of the email. Brethil, DanielLB and elaen32 all have access to the email account and to the TAS account and will be reading and responding to emails/postings and queries as soon as we can.
