Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Nemesis System Video and E3 Screenshots Revealed Can't Post

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment (WBIE) and Monolith Productions has released an all-new trailer, Shadow of Mordor Gameplay - Nemesis System Power Struggles. The trailer showcases the depth of the Nemesis System and shows how the stats, appearance and personality of each nemesis are different for every player. No one else will have an exact same Uruk, as the game generates unique, dynamically created enemies.

An exclusive rune is available for those who sign up for a WBID account on ShadowofMordor.com/register.

o Talion can overcome Sauron's captains by increasing terror from his stealth takedowns

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor delivers a dynamic game environment where the player orchestrates their personal plan of vengeance as they bend Mordor to their will. The game begins on the night of Sauron's return to Mordor, as his Black Captains brutally execute the Rangers of the Black Gate. Players become Talion, a ranger who loses his family and everything he holds dear, only to be returned from death by a mysterious Spirit of vengeance. Based on the player's actions with the in-game Nemesis System, every enemy encountered is distinct and can evolve to become a personal archenemy through the course of the game. As Talion’s personal vendetta unfolds, players uncover the mystery of the Spirit that compels him, discover the origin of the Rings of Power and confront the ultimate nemesis.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is currently available for pre-order at www.shadowofmordor.com and will be on sale worldwide on October 7, 2014 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows PC.

The Palantir app, available on the Apple Store here, will sync with game assets and the final game, to reveal additional layers of information, insights and fan-authored content, creating a unique second-screen experience. Enable Palantir's sync mode while the gameplay video plays to try it out.

Ugh... [In reply to] Can't Post

... this shapes up to look like a rather boring alternative to Assasin's Creed.

While AC is also an over-stretched franchise, it has a new game with a much more interesting setting on the horizon - Paris.

Why use the license for something like this? Why in Mordor?

If you want to transfer AC to Middle-earth (questionable to begin with) set it in the Fourth Age - a ranger on the hunt for people secretly worshipping Sauron or hunting down surviving Evil.

But in interesting settings - maybe a part of Mordor, Ithilien, the Pelennor and Minas Tirith as a hub.

But Mordor alone so you can just sell a game with the license but do whatever you want? Cheap idea, very cheap.

Where is a RPG as it was planned with "The White Council"?

It is beyond me that there is not one open-world-RPG aside from LotRO set in Middle-earth and yet WB cannot even let the Skyrim Modders do their fan-work.

"I am afraid it is only too likely to be true what you say about the critics and the public. I am dreading the publication for it will be impossible not to mind what is said. I have exposed my heart to be shot at." J.R.R. Tolkien

We all have our hearts and minds one way or another invested in these books and movies. So we all mind and should show the necessary respect.

I disagree [In reply to] Can't Post

I think this game from what we've seen looks like a blast. Is it AC set in Middle-earth. Probably because some of the folks that worked on that are tied with this I believe. I myself am quite excited to play this game. I wouldn't mind a game similar in design using the fourth age idea as a sequel but this is an interesting place to start. RPG can be fun but you can make them too open and then they get boring really quick.

Lovely [In reply to] Can't Post

I am loving alot from what I've seen.

I really look forward to just laying back and slaughtering orcs.

When people say 'Its just Assassins Creed/Arkham" so what? The gameplay works great, so seeing that its borrowed some same concepts just show that you know the game will play fantastic. I think its good that more games use other titles to inspire their mechanics.

Plus AC and Arkham are some of my favorite games and one thats similar but LOTR? Hell freakin yes please. I'll be all over it.

Also, i've never played AC [In reply to] Can't Post

so this will be new to me. And the nemesis system seems like it has a lot of potential. Tolkien fan fic aside, i'm still looking forward to this-- it looks fantastic and seems like it could be a lot of fun.

...but i do know that it's being written and designed by Christian Cantamessa, a lead writer and designer on Red Dead Redemption, which was an excellent game.

Had to do a little digging to see where this was coming from -- [In reply to] Can't Post

as I was not seeing Ubisoft anywhere in the logo cluster for SoM.

Apparently a former AC2 developer accused WB of ripping-off specific code and using it in SoM. What is likely to be the case is that game-play resembles AC2... the same way AC seems to have built on innovations first appearing in Shadow of the Colossus and Ico.

Furthermore, though I love AC: Black Flag, it really seems to have modeled itself on the same logic governing yet another huge sandbox game, Red Dead Redemption.

ETA: just saw diabolical sausages' post about RDR. So perhaps that explains the similarity to AC after all.

AC and Red Dead [In reply to] Can't Post

I was thinking a former person who worked on AC also was a part of this new studio but must have been just they used a similar code that AC used. Yeah, I knew the writer did work on Red Dead, which is one of the best games I've ever played.
