Just had to share this gorgeous photo - this must be Bilbo's road. Hard to believe this is a real place! https://www.facebook.com/QueensEnglish1/photos/a.331724873504463.87268.243570622319889/810344698975809/?type=1&theater

Yes - I can see three Hobbits, fully packed, walking down that road! All it needs is a Fox...

"The Dark Hedges"! And to think, no one outside the local area even knew about this place until about 15 years ago! It is gorgeous! They can add me to the list of the "desktop wallpaper clichéd"! Thanks for posting it :-).

That looks like something I would really like, so I just reserved the book at our library and I'm going to check out the videos. Looking forward to it

" 'Fair lady Goldberry!' said Frodo at last, feeling his heart move with a joy that he did not understand. He stood as he had at times stood enchanted by fair elven-voices; but the spell that was now laid upon him was different: less keen and lofty was the delight, but deeper and nearer to mortal heart; marvellous and yet not strange." Chapter VII: In the House of Tom Bombadil; FOTR's Faerie contains many things besides elves and fays and besides dwarfs, witches, trolls, giants or dragons; it holds the seas, the sun, the moon, the sky; and the earth, and all things that are one in it: tree and bird, water and stone, wine and bread, and ourselves, mortal men, when we are enchanted." — J.R.R. Tolkien

I googled some pictures and those roads are so pretty they hardly look real! Around here in Ohio we have the big, white sycamores, especially around the rivers and creeks, but I've never seen them planted in rows like that. What a sight that would be.

That's really nice and has inspired me to get on with a project I've been considering for a while; I've finally got on to beginning a Pinterest collection of images which could be Middle-earth locations. Each is to be captioned with a Tolkien quotation. Haven't got far as yet, but here is it http://www.pinterest.com/...-real-life-pictures/ I'd be glad to accept help with this - if anyone wants to pin to that board, please PM me your email address (or pinterest name: I think I can give you access from that, though I might be wrong, never having done a Group Board before). Oh, and I haven't yet found a quotation to caption that lovely picture of the beeches - so suggest away!
~~~~~~ "… ever let your aim be to come at truth, not to conquer your opponent. So you never shall be at a loss in losing the argument, and gaining a new discovery.” Arthur Martine "nowimë I am in the West, Furincurunir to the Dwarves (or at least, to their best friend) and by other names in other lands. Mostly they just say 'Oh no it's him - look busy!' " Or "Hold off! unhand me, grey-beard loon!"
Here's one possibility:
At first it seemed to the hobbits that although they walked and stumbled until they were weary, they were creeping forward like snails, and getting nowhere . Each day the land looked much the same as it had the day before. Yet steadily the mountains were drawing nearer. South of Rivendell they rose ever higher, and bent westwards; and about the feet of the main range there was tumbled an ever wider land of bleak hills, and deep valleys filled with turbulent waters. Paths were few and winding, and led them often only to the edge of some sheer fall, or down into treacherous swamps. Tolkien, J.R.R. (2012-02-15). The Lord of the Rings: One Volume (p. 282). Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. Kindle Edition. ("The Ring Goes South")
