I think you're going to get a lot of write-in votes for Bilbo.

His love and dedication to Frodo, and their companions, never fails to open the floodgates for tears. Not to slight Frodo in any way, of course. Oh, and yeah, I'm a fan of Bilbo too.

I'm choosing Merry because I am in awe of his courage. Alone and surrounded by enormous vicious enemies in a far strange land, he chose to sneak up on the most dangerous one of them all and stick a knife in the back of his knee. "The courage of hobbits," indeed.

Out of those listed... Pippin. Why? Well, because he's... Pippin.

At least of the LotR Hobbits. He's just such a lovable doofus. Fool of a Took, indeed. Overall, though, I have to say that I like Bilbo as he is in the Hobbit movies best.

It probably has something to do with the friendship he had with Faramir in Gondor who is also another favorite of mine. Their friendship was unusual but rather touching.

I identify with him the most. I was very disappointed he wasn't the main character when I first read LOTR. Still wish he was. As for those listed, Fatty. He faced the Ringwraiths alone. And by delaying the Nazgul at Crickhallow, he probably single-handedly saved the Ringquest and assured victory for the West. Later he turned Robin Hood against the Ruffians, was eventually cught and thrown in the Lockholes where he nearly starved to death. A truly unsung hero and an inspiring Middle-earth action movie just waiting to be made.

Merry - of the book, not the movie

book Merry reminds me of me. He's the organized one who makes sure they have everything they need. He loves maps and is the only hobbit besides Frodo who even looks at them in Rivendell. He's loyal to the core (they all are, of course). And when the chips are down he delivers big-time, helping Eowyn kill the Witch-king despite being terrified. He's an unsung hero, a behind-the-scenes worker who doesn't act like a hero, but is.
