The Founders Day Fashion Show

Come on in and take a seat here at the fashion show. On the stage today we have two designers here to show off the latest trends. Find out what's hot and what's not this year in Middle Earth.

The game is very simple. I'll give you some detail shots of a character's costume as well as a short write-up to help you out. Can you name the character from just a look at his or her costume?

I warn you, though. I may have some tricks up my sleeves. Answers will be posted in a couple of days!

Taking the stage first is designer Ngila Dickson, with a look at her trends for this year.

This first costume has long been described as a fan favorite. "Beautiful and rugged," one TORnado once said of it. It's silk and leather with beautiful gold embroidery and chainmail sleeves. Gold and ivory accessories round out the look.

This costume is the real hero of Ngila's collection this year. So simple, but yet strong and steadfast. Vertical stripes on the vest slim out the figure and cropped pants make for easy travel. And do swords every really go out of style?

Such classic colors. Such an old world feel. Fur and velvet make this such a decadent look.

This dress is almost like something out of a dream! Almost sheer and all in white and silver, this dress is made from silk and metallic fibers. It looks like something a fairy princess might wear, doesn't it?

What's this? Green Rohirric armor? How unusual. That's really something you don't see every day. Along with the ever present horses we see on Rohirric clothing, this helmet bears the sun motif of the royal house.

-------------

Up next, we have designs from Ann Maskrey. It looks like most of her models are a little on the shorter side, but her sense of fashion is just as keen.

First up we have a little color on the stage! With a burgundy jacket and a green vest. Brass buttons, a gold ascot, and a walking stick? This model looks like an old English gentleman.

This next model is all about the bling! A silk and metallic outfit with accessories coming out of his ears. How do these models balance so much jewelry?

And now we appear to be moving into the brooding and leather section of the this show. No swimsuits for these models! With leather details and a fine fur collar, this is an outfit made for no beach! Hair and make-up were provided by L'oreal.

Well, this model is certainly getting a royal welcome! Look at those geometric designs on his tunic.

Don't let the simplicity of this design fool you, this is a real star. Simple colors and design, but so elegantly put together. It would be such a shame if it got all mussed.

And that ends our show! Hope you had fun!

Wild applause, standing ovation for the designers.

What an eye for colour and design.
Making it both useful and fashionable at the same time.

Thanks!

I'm terrible--dysfunctional, really-- at observing clothing details.... [In reply to] Can't Post

Having attempted to lower my bar a bit, here goes...

1. Boromir. It's the horn, mainly.

2. Samwise? I nearly went with Merry or Pippin, but I'll say Samwise.

3. Denethor. It's that ring, and the black clothing.

4. this is tough b/c its either Galadriel or.... i'll guess Arwen. I seem to recall Galadriel's as a bit different. Arwen.

5. Eomer, unless my eyes are cheated by some spell (or by my poor abilities at this). It might be Theoden, or even Gamling.... but I'll say Eomer.

6. Bilbo, you haven't aged a day....!

7. gotta be Thranduil.

8. bleah.... Kili? I think that's his sword, anyway.

9. i want to guess one of the Dwarves, and "royal welcome" signals Thorin to me, but I don't recall that particular weapon or that kind of clothing. Master of Laketown, but why would he have a weapon like that? I'll guess Thorin.

10. Nori or Bombur, not sure. I'll go with Nori. I don't think Bombur had that weapon. Let's say Nori.

Thanks for putting this together, Arwen's daughter! -RT

An eye for detail ... [In reply to] Can't Post

1. Boromir
2. Samwise Gamgee
3. Denethor (?)
4. Arwen
5. Theoden or Eomer. But that helmet doesn't look like it belongs to either of them. That's not Eowyn's sword. So that leaves Gamling, Hama or Theodred ...
6. Bilbo!
7. Sassy Thranduil
8. Fili
9. Father Christmas Balin
10. Nori dwarf. I don't think I'll ever forget seeing his design for the first time. That image is implanted in my memory.

PS. I vote Theodred for 7.

Fire and wind now sweeping in this tiny upper room
There’s a hungry world, there’s a risen King
Unlock the doors, what reason more could we ever need?
So sing with me, I dare you to
Because there’s an empty cross; there’s an empty tomb"

Hmmm... [In reply to] Can't Post

1. Boromir.

2. Samwise Gamgee.

3. Denethor.

4. Arwen. (Arwen-in-the-spirit-world, to be precise.)

5. Théoden's armour as a child, which was a perfect fit for Merry.

6. Bilbo, dressed from his own wardrobe in Bag End. (Not from second-hand items scrounged within Lake Town.)

7. The King of Inappropriate Outfits Where One Stumble on an Over-Long Hem Will End in a Tumble off an Elevated Tree-Root Bridge himself, Thranduil.

8. Hell-lo, Fili.

9. A big fat guess that this is Gloin.

10. Nori.

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..."
Dwarves: "Pretty rings..."
Men: "Pretty rings..."
Sauron: "Mine's better."

"Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded beggar with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak.
