Is this a screenshot from the upcoming BoFA trailer? Can't Post

Found this on the IMDb boards. I'm not sure if this is legit, in fact it probably isn't. But if it is, that's awesome. If it isn't, whoever made it is awesome with photoshop, and we still get a fantastic glimpse at what the title will look like now that it's The Battle of the Five Armies.

Take a look here:

Is it possible that this is legit?

maybe [In reply to] Can't Post

does look very real, and i want to say yes, but i dont think weve seen a 'the hobbit' title in 3dimensional space like that before, it looks like its floating infront of and behind the embers.

most titles have been 3d but on one plane flat, could be wrong, but something looks different

so hmmm not sure,

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. [In reply to] Can't Post

It could be something new they're doing, it could be fake. Who knows. It does give us a nice glimpse at the BoFA logo, and I think it looks pretty cool, actually.

PJ uses "the" - Tolkien doesn't [In reply to] Can't Post

I've noticed this in several vlogs. PJ says "the Battle of the Five Armies". But according to Tolkien, it's really just the "Battle of Five Armies".

Which doesn't make any real difference, but on his Facebook post announcing the title change, he again included the "the" - so I'm guessing that is the official title now.

These logos certainly look well done and in-line with the first two films. Smile - hoping it's the real thing

I believe... [In reply to] Can't Post

In the book, it's only referred to as The Battle of Five Armies, no the. But somewhere in the appendices it is actually referred to as the Battle of the Five Armies, with a "the." I could be wrong though.

Hmmm you may be right, I know that in FOTR (book) [In reply to] Can't Post

when the Fellowship are about to go into Moria, Gandalf tells them about it and only says "The Battle of Five Armies".

But as I said, it doesn't really make THAT much of a difference, unless you are a pure purist Laugh

Appendix B [In reply to] Can't Post

In the entry in Appendix B for TA 2941, it says:

Quote
Thorin Oakenshield and Gandalf visit Bilbo in the Shire. Bilbo meets Sméagol-Gollum and finds the Ring. The White Council meets; Saruman agrees to an attack on Dol Guldur, since he now wishes to prevent Sauron from searching the River. Sauron having made his plans abandons Dol Guldur. The Battle of the Five Armies in Dale. Death of Thorin II. Bard of Esgaroth slays Smaug. Dáin of the Iron Hills becomes King under the Mountain (Dáin II).

Tolkien did use both... [In reply to] Can't Post

For the most part, Tolkien used the Battle of Five Armies. The exceptions are in the LotR Appendices and Index. I do wish Jackson had used the shorter, less formal form though. It just sounds better.

A nice comparison of the 3 films' logos. [In reply to] Can't Post

The first two were taken straight from trailers. They are all extremely similar, yet they each do have some distinct differences. Even from AUJ to DoS the logo changed a tad. So it's safe to say it's possible that this could be legit.

Ah! [In reply to] Can't Post

But notice how in each of the 3, the subtitle ends right below the end of the "I" in Hobbit. Just thought I'd point that out.

Honestly, it's almost impossible to determine if it's real or fake. But why would the logo be released before the actual trailer? If it's legit, maybe it was leaked?

What's also interesting is that the picture looks like it's a screenshot, because the fire around the logo makes it look like it's in the middle of an animation. Note the extra fire at the top of the "T" in Hobbit.

The way is written in your quote makes me think that maybe PJ could take this to make Bard kill Smaug in Dale, and not in Laketown, and so, having Smaug in BOFA

Looks fake to me... [In reply to] Can't Post

Check out the screenshots from the other two films. There, the subtitle had a clear 3D effect and was in the same plane as "The Hobbit" (i.e., it is inclined in space: the upper side is farther away than the lower side).

This screenshot has an inclined "The Hobbit" logo and a straight (non-inclined) subtitle. Also, it takes up too much space compared to the previous two titles.
