**Name That Tune: Founders Day 2014 Edition!** Can't Post

Welcome to Name That Tune: Founders Day 2014 Edition!

Object.

* For every clue, guess the song title, or in the case of a theme song, guess the TV show, movie, or stage musical.

Clues.

* Each clue is headed by a factoid (such as year of release, whether male or female vocals, musical genre, but not necessarily any of those) about the song, or in the case of a theme song, about the TV show, movie, or stage musical. Following each heading is set of lyrics some are complete and others are just an excerpt, that have been modified to be about the works of Tolkien set in Middle-earth, or about adaptations of those works. The song title, if it appears in the original song lyrics, has been replaced with modified lyrics or {blanks} and that replacement has been marked in bold within the parody lyrics. If nothing is in bold, that means the title isn’t mentioned in the original lyrics.

Rules & Scoring.

* Each correctly guessed clue earns 1 point. Spelling counts. Accuracy counts. Closed book, brains only. Bonus half-points, see below under Categories, Rux Reposts.

Categories of clues will be posted in reply to this post in sub-threads. They will be:

* TV/Movie Themes and Showtunes

* Jazz Era, 50s, 60s, to mid-70s

* Late 70s , 80s, 90s, 2000s, current

* Rux Reposts

About Rux Reposts. Miscellaneous genres and time periods. In this category, bonus half-points will be awarded for each correctly guessed clue (thus total 1.5 points per correct answer) provided that the answer includes a statement you never seen the parody of the clue before (from when I previously posted it over a year ago or so).

Closing time and Solutions/Ranking Post.

* Scoring will close at 11:59pm Eastern US Time this coming Sunday (that is, just before it becomes Monday for me). I will post the solutions, scores, and rankings this coming Monday evening between 9pm-12mid, Eastern US time.

To begin playing, look for each Category to be posted as sub-threads in reply to this top post.

Happy Founders Day!

Name That Tune: TV/Movie Themes and Showtunes [In reply to] Can't Post

1. A currently running TV animated show for young children. Vocals by children.

CHORUS
They're two they're four they're six they're eight,
Things of Arda they create:
Woods of green and skies of blue.
They're the really useful crew.
All with different roles to play
Round Valinor or far away,
Fighting Melkor to the end,
Manwë and his {blank}

VERSE
Manwë! Rules the sky and air,
Varda! Stars that shine so fair,
Ulmo! Oceans deep and rough,
Aulë! Crafts all kinds of stuff,
Yavana! Earth and trees that bloom
Mandos! Masters death and doom,
Nienna!’s tears of mercy heal,
Oromë! Rides the Hunt with zeal.

CHORUS REPEATS

2. TV animated series from the 1980s aimed at pre-teen, based on a line of action figures. Male vocals.

Stone Giants,
More than meets the eye.

Living rocks
Wage their battle
To annoy the trekking Dwarves
Who’d cross into Wilderland.

Stone Giants,
Mountains in disguise.
Stone Giants,
More than meets the eye.
Stone Giants!

3. A recurring segment within a long-running TV educational-entertainment show for very young children.

(In cute Smeagol voice:)
La-la la-la, la-la la-la, Smeagol’s {blank}
La-la la-la, la-la la-la, Smeagol’s {blank}
Smeagol wants the precious,
(In sinister hissing voice:)
and *we* does too...
(Back to cute Smeagol voice:)That’s Smeagol’s {blank}

4. currently-running TV show for elementary-school age children. Male vocals.

Deep inside the forest where nature is their friend,
coming to the rescue are the stumpy Drúedain,
walking like Neanderthals and noses flat and wide,
These roughened, toughened Púkel-men have come to turn the tide,
Here comes Ghân's clan! Ghân's clan! Ghân's clan! Ghân-buri-Ghân!

Rohan’s on a mission, they're all going for a ride,
Orcs are on the move, in wait to ambush from the side,
Drúedain appear to guide the horsemen in their need,
While holding off the Orcs with poisoned arrows from their trees,
Here comes Ghân's clan! Ghân's clan! Ghân's clan! Ghân-buri-Ghân!

5. TV animated sitcom from the 1960s.

Ringwraiths. Meet the Ringwraiths.
Once were mortal men who owned nine Rings
Bound to Sauron’s Power,
So they turned into some spectral things.

They ride, in black guises, from the East,
On horse, or on wyvern-like Fell Beast.

When you’re with the Ringwraiths,
A dab of athelas in due time,
A dab in due time,
Might save the day in time!

6. Currently running TV animated show aimed at pre-teens, male lead vocals and children on backing vocals.

(spoken:)
Are you ready kids?
Aye, aye Gandalf!
I can't hear you
Aye, aye Gandalf!

(sung:)

Who lives in comfortable hole in a hill? BIL-BO BAG-GINS!
Bid you a pleasant Good Morning he will! BIL-BO BAG-GINS!
But when several Dwarves show up at his front door,
BIL-BO BAG-GINS!
They raise a big ruckus, can't take any more!
BIL-BO BAG-GINS!

BIL-BO BAG-GINS!
BIL-BO BAG-GINS!

BIL-BO BAG-GINS!

7. TV sitcom 1970s, family-friendly

Here's the story
Of a wiz called Gandy
Who was trying to find a burglar for the Dwarves.
He believed in the bravery
he found in Bilbo,
With feet festooned in curls.

It's the story of an Elf King Thrandy,
Who was busy with a Wood Realm of his own.
They were Mirkwood Elves living all together
He kept them all alone,....

Til the one day when they captured Bilbo's Dwarrows.
Bilbo knew that it was much more than a hunch
That his group must somehow barrel off to Lake-Town.
That's the way they became the Bardy {blank}
The Bardy {blank}, the Bardy {blank}
That's the way they became the Bardy {blank}

8 TV sitcom, 1970s

Why’s a mark on my door (Why’s a mark on my door)?
It was painted brand new (It was painted brand new)!
Why I’m seeing at home along with me,
Thorin’s Company too?
Why is mud on my floor (Why is mud on my floor)?
How my dishes just flew (How my dishes just flew)?
Why I find in my place, within my space,
Thorin’s Company too?
They think my things are a frolic, hey Gandalf, I’m calling for you…
Plumbing’s out in my loo...(Plumbing’s out in my loo...)
Thorin’s Company too!

9. Hint: from a 1980s movie

When Fellowship
Comes to broken ends,
Who ya gonna call? Three hunters!

When Uruk Hai
Take your Hobbit friends,
Who ya gonna call? Three hunters!

I ain't 'fraid o' no Orcs…!

Orc huntin’ makes me feel good!

10. A Disney movie.

THEODEN

Let’s get down to business
to defend the Deep.
Break like waves do all who
Would assail this Keep.

LEGOLAS

It’s the saddest bunch I ever met
And I get they’ll have to do,
They’re too old, or too young, they'll be through.

GRIMA WORMTONGUE

Sturdy by appearance, but a flaw within,
Helm's Deep has a weakness, we are sure to win.

SARUMAN

They’re a spineless, pale, pathetic lot
And they haven’t got a clue
There’ll be no dawn or Man, they'll be through.

MERRY
We’re never gonna catch a break

PIPPIN
Say goodbye to those who knew me

GIMLI
Hauberk fits a little tight around the chest.

ARAGON
Don’t lose hope, for goodness sake.

EOWYN
Hope he doesn’t see right through me

HALDIR
Greetings, we are sent by Elrond and the rest!

GALADHRIM ELVES

Here are Elves !

ARAGORN

O Mae govannen, you are most welcome!

GALADHRIM ELVES

Here are Elves !

HALDIR

By looks, we're nary a tick too soon,

GALADHRIM ELVES

Here are Elves !

HALDIR

We come to honor the past allegiance

HALDIR & GALADHRIM ELVES

Between Men and Elves. We'll share with you your doom.

11. Another Disney movie

Snow glows white in the mountains tonight,
Elf Prince footprints can’t be seen,
This pass needs excavation,
The way under sounds mighty keen.

The wolves are howling,
So Speak, Friend, and get inside,
Here is Balin’s Tomb,
Gimli’s kinsman’s died.

Don’t let them in,
Don’t let them near,
They have a cave troll,
This is the end, I fear.
What flame, the Bane, now run, go fast,
Fly, fools, to the last!
Cannot pass!
Cannot pass!
By Anor, you shall not pass!
Cannot pass!
Cannot pass!
With Secret Fire, I’ll blast!
Here I stand, and here I stay
Down in Moria,
My death won't be permanent anyway.

12. Stage musical that has been adapted for big screen within past few years or so. Hint: sung by a child.

(Bilbo sits at writing desk in Bag End. Meanwhile, Frodo is relaxing against a tree, enjoying the perfect Shire weather, Sam is gardening outside of Bag End admiring the flowers. Merry and Pippin are enjoying themselves smoking pipes and drinking ales while fishing off Brandywine River. Various ordinary Hobbits life proceeds throughout the Shire: farming, pipe-smoking, snacking, etc.)

(Verse 1)

BILBO

A bit concerning Hobbits
of the Shire, that is, here.

FRODO

We’ve farmed in all four Farthings
Many hundreds of years.

SAM

Now some say we’re obsessed with food…

(A hobbit about to kiss a his lady love gets distracted by a passing-by cart with a pastry on it, which the hobbit snatches and crams into his mouth. No kiss for lady.)

MERRY

But none of it’s true.

PIPPIN

We also love some pipe-weed

BOTH

And some frothy ale brew!

(Chorus)

BILBO

But what’s deep in our hearts
And what lies in our souls
Is love of peace and quiet
And all things that grow.

(SAM sniffs a flower)

(ENTER Gandalf on his cart full of fireworks and such)

So Shire life goes on
Where things tend to endure,
There’ll always be a Baggins
In Bag End,….

JOINED BY FRODO, SAM, MERRY, & PIPPIN

….. I’m sure!

BILBO

So don’t knock the simple things in life
or ….

(HARD, ANGRY KNOCKING AT THE DOOR)

(spoken)…someone at the door!

(scrambles off his chair and cowers in hiding)

13. Same show as 12, sung by a female.

(Intro:)
THEODEN
And now we're all alone in here,
Nowhere to turn nowhere to go to
Without our home, without a field,
Our wives and children stuck below, too,
And now the storm is near
So we will make our stand in here.
Where now the horse, where is the rider
And the horn that once was blowing?
They've passed like rain upon the mountains.
Like a wind on meadow growing
The days have gone to bed
Behind the hills where lie our dead.
(Meanwhile, in Ithilien while Frodo and Sam sleep, Gollum stays awake....)
(Main melody verse 1)
GOLLUM
'Tis our {blank},
Our precious sole belonging!
In our bones,
We craves and wants with longing.
Withouts it, we itch upon our finger.
We feels it when its near and all we wants to do is
linger.
(Main melody Verse 2)
THEODEN
In the rain, the Orc blades glint like silver.
All my men, how anxiously they shiver!
In the darkness, that swarming, sprawling army
Is all I see, the enemy, forever and forever.
(Bridge verse)
GOLLUM
Tricky thieves!
Not Master, he is kind.
Why're you lying to yourself? You have no friends.
You well know the reason we survived:
'Twas ME I say!
I was there for US!
(EOWYN keeps a brave face in the Glittering Caves where the women and children refugees of Rohan huddle in fear)
(Main melody verse 3)
EOWYN (aside)
I love him....
THEODEN
..but ere the night is over
They will come,
My forces are outnumbered....
GOLLUM
....The Master, he cares for me completely
Don't need you any longer
Won't you go away and leave me!

(Main Melody verse 4:)
EOWYN
I love him....!
THEODEN
....But everyday I'm learning:
When they come,
The Deeping Wall won't hold them....!
GOLLUM
.... Don't need you,
Leave now and come back never!
What's that you say?
Said go away
Now, never to return!!!!!
(Outro:)

EOWYN
I love him....
THEODEN
All's lost, then...
GOLLUM
I've lost him!!!
I'm finally
{blank blank blank}!

Name that Tune -Jazz/Swing Era, 50s, 60s, to mid 70s [In reply to] Can't Post

1. Swing era standard, was used as the end credits theme for a late-1990s animated movie

Somewhere {blank-blanky blank}
Somewhere a far green country,
I’ll find Anor, past whitest shores
All blessed the ships that come sail in.
Somewhere {blank-blanky blank}
It's there, waiting for me,
I’ll steer at the helm for the Blessed Realm
Then straight to Aman I’ll go sailin’

2. Swing era standard, was used as the opening theme for a 1980s sitcom

Sam and Frodo, Sam and Frodo,
They’re a pair like Dorothy and Toto,
This I tell ya brother, one would fail without the other
Sam and Frodo, Sam and Frodo,
What disaster if one had gone solo,
Ask the Dark Lord Sauron? Silence, he’s without the power on.

3. Swing era standard

{Blank blankety blank, Blank blankety blank)
The Council was fraught
With quarrel, distraught,
It just wouldn’t do.
Did naught but argue
Until they turned blue.
It made me feel bad, and quite a bit sad
When stepped forth did you.
The Dwarf, I have seen
Suspicious and mean,
The Elf prince got cross,
When Southern man bossed,
And Estel did too,
So, nobody else, Dwarf, Man or Elf,
Could take on this task, except for yourself,
{Blank blankety blank}, valiant you,
{Blank blankety blank}).

4. 1950s early rock'n'roll

Well, since the Witch King stabbed me,
I need a new place to rest,
It’s down at the end of the Western Sea
Where all life is blest
The sea is calling, baby,
The sea is calling, the sea is calling, for the best.

5. 1957 piano rock'n'roll rockabilly

What is this devilry, shadow and flame?
Why, it’s the ancient demon Durin’s Bane!
Give me no sass, you shall not pass!
Flame of Udun, balrog of fire!

6. 1969 blues rock / hard rock

Here come ol' Azog,
He come showin' up surely,
Got one booboo arm claw,
He speak tongue of Mordor,
He would bring us to our knees,
Got to be joined up, or he just do what he please.

He wear face scars on,
His son Bolg supporting,
He got Morgul stinger,
He shoot cutie Kili.

I say, I know you, yes, all three,
One thing I can tell you is you got to be free!
{Blank-a blank blank}, right now, over me!

Should bag your scuffle,
They got Wargs a-coming,
They got …O no, vampires?
They got sky all blacked out.

They would beat us below their knees.
All of us apart, yeah, they will take us with ease!
{Blank-a blank blank}, right now, over me!

That roller coaster
was an early warning
in the roaring water
when Bolg sought to kill ya.
He’d kill Dwarves and Elves and Men, all three,
Got to pool our forces, is it so hard to see?
{Blank-a blank blank}, right now, over me!

{Blank-a blank blank}, yeah
{Blank-a blank blank}, yeah
{Blank-a blank blank}, yeah
{Blank-a blank blank}, yeah
{Blank-a blank blank}, yeah
{Blank-a blank blank}, yeah
{Blank-a blank blank}, yeah uh
{Blank-a blank blank}, yeah
{Blank-a blank blank}, yeah

7. 1965 R&B Motown classic

(Oo) What you got? (Oo) You say you got something?
(Oo) Seems to me (Oo) you might have nothing,
All I'm askin'
(Oo)
for is a little {blank-blank} here in my home
(Just a little bit) mister
(Just a little bit) here in my home

Ain't gonna give me no double entendres
Ain't gonna get me (Oo) to search your trousers
(Oo) all I'm asking
(Oo) for is a little {bla-blank-blank blank} here in my home
(Just a little bit) baby
(Just a little bit) here in my home
(Just a little bit) yeah
(Just a little bit)

...

T-A-U-R-I-E-L
That is how my name is spelled
T-A-U-R-I-E-L
Try healing by yourself...

Oh (sock it to me ...)

...

8. 1978 Male vocals, power pop / rock.

Sauron told me, yes, he told me I’d gain might like him.
He also told me, “Stay busy, don’t ever stop, need new batch.”
Just the other day I pulled a soldier sprouting out my slimy pit of mud that’s in the ground.

Grima’s all right, Lurtz’s all right, they just seem a little weird,
{Blank-blank-blank}{Blank-blank-blank}{Blank-blank-blank} the Ring to me! me! me! me!….

….

9. 1972 psychedelic soul, male vocals with group harmony

It happened late in November, that day I’ll always remember,
‘Cause that was the day I got burglarized.
I never got the chance to see him
In his true colors, the bad things about him.
Dwarven-kin, I stand before you to tell you the truth.
Let me tell you straight and say: Well….
Baggins stole the Arkenstone!
That traitor should have been left in his home.
And ‘til I die, curse his name and blood and bones.
Baggins stole the Arkenstone!
That traitor should have been left in his home.
And ‘til I die, curse his name and blood and bones.
Hey Uncle is it true what you say
of Bilbo, after all he’s done, risked his life?
And Uncle, you talk of him all down, of that
Bilbo who freed us from the Spiders armed with his wee knife?

.…

10. 1976 male vocalist, progressive rock / folk rock,

Théoden King mourned his heir too long,
Wore his crown and robes too tight.
All miserable to no end,
Drowned in ailing plight.
Buried his son under simbelmynë,
The Isen Fords saw the kid's doom.
And bearing ill change shown in facial frown seams
In his post-old-age gloom.
He was too oh, oh, old to ride to wa, -a, -ar,
But he was {blank blank blank blank}.
He was too oh, oh, old to ride to wa, -a, -ar,
But he was {blank blank blank blank}.
He once rode a charger in the sun
That shone triumph on his reign,
Counted his worth in well-armed horsemen
And prayed for more the same,
But his advisor's untrue, bought,
Wizard’s boy,
Gríma wormed into his mind,
Buried the King with downfall and grim woes,
Shipped his soul straight down the line.
And he sent Éomer, loyal marshal,
Exiled to pasture and field,
The King’s sister-son man became a no-one man
The King’s put away his sword and shield.

He was too oh, oh, old to ride to wa, -a, -ar,
But he was {blank blank blank blank}.
He was too oh, oh, old to ride to wa, -a, -ar,
But he was {blank blank blank blank}.
So Théoden King shook off his shroud,
And bid Wormtongue his leave,
And he gripped the hilt of sword Herugrim,
Just like it used to be.
Down to the lines, gleam in his eyes,
His wind-swept words echoed, Fell deeds awake!
His horse did a trunk-roll to the ground,
And Théoden was pinned there
With naught left but to break.
He was too oh, oh, old to ride to wa, -a, -ar,
But he was {blank blank blank blank}.
He was too oh, oh, old to ride to wa, -a, -ar,
But he was {blank blank blank blank}.
Well, you’re
never too oh, oh, old to ride to wa, -a, -ar
If you’re {blank blank blank blank}.
Well, you’re
never too oh, oh, old to ride to wa, -a, -ar
But he was {blank blank blank blank}.

11. 1972 folk rock, male vocalist

He was born of mortal frailty mixed with Elven fallen realm,
Comin’ home to a land he’d never been before.
Arvernian behind him, sailed the seas of Middle-earth,
You might say he didn’t know what lay in store.

When his wife came out to find him she'd been turned into a bird,
Upon her breast there shone a shining star,
So he took her to his bosom, and by morn her form returned,
And he shifted West to find the high Valar.

And in Valinor he went before the high,
In doing so, resigned himself to die.
Take up arms against the Shadow, asked he of the high,
of the Valar high. (Fight, fight the Shadow)
of the Valar high. (Fight, fight the Shadow)
....

Things overheard during games of chess in Middle-earth:

Galadriel (any and every time she advances her pawn to the last row): "In its place you would have a QUEEN!!!!" (thunder booms)

3. 50s retro (Rockabilly) from the 80s

Once a dame had ten cats, Queen Beruthiel,
They got around and served her well
Spy cats listen with their ears
None would touch them, out of loathing and fear.
Slave cats, spy for a mean ol’ hag,
She’s an animal abuser, hey man, that’s a drag.
She was thrown out by her royal man
He went childless, one could understand.

4. 1981 New Wave The verses are speak-sung. Same band as 1.

You may find yourself journeying on a Dwarf lord's quest.
And you may find yourself in another part of the world.
And you may find yourself an Elven blade and a gold, innocent-looking ring,
And you may find yourself in a beautiful house
With an Elf who is wise,
And you may ask yourself,
Well, how did I get here?

And the Dwarves flow by (in the water, barrel-bound),
And the arrows fly (water flowing all around),
Into the fray again (BARRELS OUT OF BOND),
{blankety blank blank} (water flowing all around).

And you may ask yourself, how do I work this?
And you may ask yourself, what is this strange innocent-looking ring?
And you may tell yourself, this is not my comfortable house,
And you may tell yourself, this is not my comfortable life.

And the Dwarves flow by (in the water, barrel-bound),
And the arrows fly (water flowing all around),
Into the fray again (BARRELS OUT OF BOND),
{blankety blank blank} (water flowing all around),
None as it ever was, nevermore as I was,
None as it ever was, nevermore as I was,
None as it ever was, nevermore as I was,
None as it ever was, nevermore as I was,

Water around me and water below me,
There is water propelling us in motion.
Above the water, harried for slaughter,
Above the water propelling us in motion.

And the Dwarves flow by (in the water, barrel-bound),
And the arrows fly (water flowing all around),
Into the fray again (BARRELS OUT OF BOND),
Incoming Orcs in scores (there is water all around),
And the Dwarves flow by (in the water, barrel-bound),
And the arrows fly (water flowing all around),
Into the fray again (BARRELS OUT OF BOND),
{blankety blank blank} (water flowing all around).

You may ask yourself, where is my comfortable house?
You may ask yourself, where does this highway lead to?
And you may ask yourself, were we right, were we wrong?
And you may say to yourself, my Dwarves, WHAT HAVE WE DONE?

And the time flows by (and the monster coming down)
As the Dragon flies (smoke will billow from the Town)
Into the blue again (there will be FIRE AND WATER)
Incoming wrath in store (there’ll be fire all around)
And the time flows by (and the monster coming down)
As the Dragon flies (smoke will billow from the Town)
Into the blue again (there will be FIRE AND WATER)
{blankety blank blank} (fire burning all around).

None as it ever was, nevermore as I was,
None as it ever was, look where the ring was,
Time isn’t helping us, time is disastrous,
None as it ever was, nevermore as I was,
None as it ever was, nevermore as I was.

None as it ever was, nevermore as I was,
And the time flows by, nevermore as I was,
Yeah the monster comes, here comes the monster
(And the time flows by)
None as it ever was, nevermore as I was,
(And the time flows by)
None as it ever was, nevermore as I was
({blankety blank blank} ) fire burning all around
(And the time flows by) and the monster coming down

(fade out)

5. Hint: early to mid 1980s, bluesy hard rock, male vocals, currently the opening theme for a reality show on A&E

(first verse only)
Maille shirt, new shield,
And I know I'm headin' for the Field,
Steel helm, grey eyes,
I don't need a reason why,
We come a ridin' just as fast as we can,
'Cause I'm a shieldmaiden who's a cross-dressed man!
….

6 Hint: latter half of the 1980s, glam metal/hard rock, male vocalist

(spoken:) Once upon a time in Arda, First Age

(sung:)
Beren, on the run from the Dark,
Its Sudden-Flame strike
Came down on his life, lived rough,
So rough,
Luthien was out in the glade,
She ran from the Man,
His limbs stayed by chains of love,
Of love.

Her father said to hold on,
What have you got?
You can’t just have the Princess, that is asking a lot.
You’ll fetch the jewels from ol’ Morgoth,
for love,
Or have her you’ll not!

Whoa, if that’s your will,
Whoa, this I will fulfill!
In my hand, a bright Silmaril,
Whoa, this I will fulfill!
This I will fulfill!

Once upon a time,
Was in my Hobbit hole
I was in your sights
You got me alone
You found me; You found me; You found me e e e e

You left your mark there;
My door like that;
The Dwarves fell in hard;
I took a step back;
They found me, they found me, they found me e e e e

And I’m long gone;
And the Trolls have me;
And I realize the blame is on me;

Cause {blank blank blank blank blank blank} when you walked in;
So shame on me now;
Hauled me to places i'd never been
Such as Goblin Town
Oh I knew you were trouble when you walked in;
So shame on me now;
Yanked me to places i'd never been;
Now I'm lying on the cold hard ground;

Oh, oh, {blank}{blank{blank}

Oh, oh, {blank}{blank}{blank}

Hello hello Lady, you know, I hear what you think,
I am at your service, in my mind you see, see,
Wha-Wha-What do you mean, oh, I think you’re testing me,
Heard that there’s a witch about, it’s kinda freaky.

K-kinda freaky
K-kinda freaky
Heard that there’s a witch about, it’s kinda freaky.

. . .[skipped verse 2]...

Stop sending, stop sending,
I don’t wanna think anymore
Out of my head, why're you sending me thoughts for?
Stop sending, stop sending,
I don’t wanna hear anymore,
Out of my head, why're you sending me thoughts for?

Eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh
Stop telepathin me
Eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh
(Stop telepathin’ me) It’s freaky
Eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh
(It’s freaky) Stop telepathin’ me
Eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh
(Stop telepathin’ me)

Can ask all you want I will answer free,
Will you chill with the telepathy?
You can look in my dreams even though that seems mean,
Will you chill with the telepathy?

Hey! Hie! Search far and wide,
We’re gonna drink this Farthing dry.
To the bottle I go!
I love more than rain or brook
A mug of beer inside this Took
Here to drown my woe

Rounds of flagons at Green Dragon’s,
Gamgees, Brandybucks and Baggins,
There’s your fancy, Sam, get dancy!
Why so serious?

So {blank blank blank} if you’re not tall
And you grow sideways, hair-foot Hobbits all,
We will never be, never be
Anything but proud,
Though itty-bitty, witty, little sneaks!
Won’t you come on and come on and
{blank blank blank}!
Just come on and come on and
{blank blank blank}!

Dish, spoon, Man in Moon,
Hey diddle diddle, fiddle us a tune,
A jig to wake the dead!
(Wake up already!)
Jump cow, can’t stop now,
Sun should be rising soon anyhow,
So the ostler said.
(“It’s after three!” he said.)

Rounds of flagons at Green Dragon’s,
Gamgees, Brandybucks and Baggins,
There’s your fancy, Sam, get dancy!
Why so serious?

So {blank blank blank} if you’re not tall
And you grow sideways, hair-foot Hobbits all,
We will never be, never be
Anything but proud,
Though itty-bitty, witty, little sneaks!
Won’t you come on and come on and
{blank blank blank}!
Just come on and come on and
{blank blank blank}!

(spoken)
No way! They come in pints?
I’m getting one! (/spoken)

So if you're too light for fight
And you're smarter out of sight
You can choose to let it go
We can always, we can always party here at home

So {blank blank} (yes, Tooks!)
So {blank blank blank} if you’re not tall
And you grow sideways, hair-foot Hobbits all,
We will never be, never be
Anything but proud,
Though itty-bitty, witty, little sneaks!

So {blank blank blank} if you’re not tall
And you grow sideways, hair-foot Hobbits all,
We will never be, never be
Anything but proud,
Though itty-bitty, witty, little sneaks!
Won't you come on and come on and
{blank blank blank}!
Just come on and come on and
{blank blank blank}!
Won't you come on and come on and
{blank blank blank} with me!
Just come on and come on and
{blank blank blank} with me!

Things overheard during games of chess in Middle-earth:

Galadriel (any and every time she advances her pawn to the last row): "In its place you would have a QUEEN!!!!" (thunder booms)

Name that Tune - Rux' reposts [In reply to] Can't Post

For this category only, if a parody for any given clue below is one you have never seen before, such as in one of my previous posts, you may state that as part of your answer (e.g., “I’ve never seen this parody before”), for an extra half (0.5) point, thus 1.5 points per correct guess within this category.

1. early 1960s rock and roll, male vocals with group harmony

If everybody handled action (oooh!)
Across the Arda way (oooh!)
Like a certain Wood Elf dude (oooh!)
L – E – G – O – L - A - (oooh!)
- S, they’d shoot at the baddies (oooh!)
And use their twin knives too (oooh!)
A pretty pretty blond hairdo (oooh!)
Surfin’ down the stairs. (oooh!)

You’d catch ‘em climbin’ on cave trolls (Inside M-O-R-I-A!)
Down in the mithril mine (Inside M-O-R-I-A!)
Khazad-dûm, that ol’ Dwarf realm, (Inside M-O-R-I-A!)
Under the Silvertine (Inside M-O-R-I-A!)
Pits that don’t have a bottom (Inside M-O-R-I-A!)
The bridges crack and sway (Inside M – O …!)
Everybody’s gone surfin’ (surfin’!)
Surfin’ stone walkways.

We’ll all be manning the Deep (oooh!)
They’re gonna take real soon (oooh!)
We’ll try to shoot down the torch-dude (oooh!)
Before things go ka-BOOM (oooh!)
We’ll try to push off the ladders (oooh!)
So that they’re fallin’ down there (oooh!)
Show the Uruks some surfin’ (oooh!)
Surfin’ down the stairs. (oooh!)

Haradrim got armies (In part three R-O-T-K!)
Mûmakil brigades (In part three R-O-T-K!)
We’ll be climbing their stirrups (In part three R-O-T-K!)
And swingin’ from their reins (In part three R-O-T-K!)
Tip over their archers (In part three R-O-T-K!)
Hear ‘em scream like punks (In part three R-O-T-K!)
Everybody’s gone surfin’ (surfin’!)
Surfin’ mûmak trunks.

INSTRUMENTAL

Everybody’s gone surfin’ (surfin’!)
Fallin’ stone walkways
Everybody’s shield surfin’ (surfin’!)
Surfin’ down the stairs
Everybody’s gone surfin’ (surfin’!)
Down the Dead Pathways
Yeah, everybody’s gone surfin’ (surfin’!)
At Belfalas Bay
Yeah, everybody’s gone surfin’ (surfin’!)
Slidin’ the trunk-way
Yeah, everybody’s gone surfin’ (surfin’!)
At the Mordor Gate

2. 1967, psychedelic rock, psychedelic pop

Elves are here, as
Dwarves are here, as
Men are here, and
we are all together.

See who have come?
More friends who have come
hail from the Shire.
Mae govannen!

Friends and distant strangers
summoned here to heed my call,
Middle-Earth awaits its
awful bloody doomsday, Sau-
-ron’s been a naughty boy,
We’ve let his reach grow long.

Let’s see the Ring then.(OO-Oo-ooh!)
Bring forth the Ring then. (OO-Oo-ooh!)
Problem before us:
What should we do?

From the city, great white city,
Boromir is here, so hear me now!
See how it fits, this Ring, it is a gift!
Our foes will run!
Been fighting
the fi-i-i-i-ight. (FI-I-i-i-ight!)
Should try it!
They’ll fly- (FLY-y-y-y-y . . .)
y-y-y-y!! (. . .-y-y-y-y!)

This you cannot master.
There’s not one of us who can.
What’s a lowly Ranger
know about the matter?
Sir, he’s not a Ranger only,
He’s your future king!

We have no king there. (OO-Oo-ooh!)
We need no king there! (OO-Oo-ooh!)
Strong as our force is,
Who’d look to you?

Wishing he could tend his garden
When the talking’s done.
If he goes back home along with Sam,
He’s free from all the aches and pains.
Who’ll take the Ring then? [spoken:](What, you sir?)
Who’ll take the Ring then? [spoken:](No Elf may take!)
Who’ll bear it for us?
What would you choose?
What d’you choose to do?

Axe is shattered, totaled, broken!
That’s not how the Ring can be destroyed.
(Weh-heh-hell, hee-hee-here’s ha-ha-how)
Cast to the flame from whence that it came,
That’s how the Eye
Can die.

One of you must do this.
Simply walking into Mordor?!
Evil there is sleepless, eyeball ever watchful,
Barren, ashen wasteland,
Air to breathe, a poison fume.

Who’d take the Ring there? (WHO-oo-oo?)

I’ll take the Ring there! (OO-Oo-ooh!)

He’ll bear it for us?

You, you and you, what (CHOo-oo-oose!)
d’you choose to do?

You, you and you,
and you,
What d’you choose to do?

What d’you choose?

Choose it! Choose it! Choose it!

Choose it! Choose it!
Choose it choose it!

[spoken/rapped, gradual fade out:]
Now come what may,
Though I do not know the way. (D’you choose?)
I'll help, of course,
with the burden while its yours.
You have my sword,
My life, upon my word.
And my bow too,
each arrow flies for you.
And my (new) axe,
just point and there it whacks.
Have faith little one,
let Gondor see it done.
It's me, your Sam,
I follow as I am!
Oi, we’ll come too,
That’s what we’re gonna do!
Need brains to bring
for this Mission! Quest! Thing!
So where to now?
I guess that rules you out,
Pip!
. . . for this trip,
You’ll be the Fellowship!
Begun this book,
Young Frodo, take a look.
I’ll be your wife
So I choose a mortal life!
(fade out)

3. 1969 folk rock

I’ve been just a good boy,
Swear I heard no story told,
Only trimming these here hedges,
Heard no more than hums and mumbles
That’s a promise, yes!
No lies or jests!
Though I did hear something ‘bout a Ring,
A Dark Lord and the rest….

Then we left our homes
And my family
I was no more than a boy
In a world of swarthy strangers
In the bustle of the Prancing Pony
Hiding scared,
Laying low,
Seeking out the higher quarters
Where that “longshanks” said to go,
Cringing from the faces
Only death would know.

Lie-la-lie
Lie-la-lie lie lie-la-lie
Lie-la-lie
Lie-la-lie lie lie-la-lie
La-la la-la
Lie

Trudging through the dead men’s Marshes
We came looking for the way
But we got no farther,
Without Gollum on his leash,
We wouldn’t have a clue.
I do declare
There were times I saw with such longing
Those ribbons in her hair.

Now his pain has sunken deeply,
Frodo walked unevenly.
He was older than he once was,
Though young as eyes can see.
‘Twas quite unnatural.
Now we’ve gone estranged.
All the changes upon changes
He’ll go more and more deranged.
For his burden, he’ll go more and more deranged.

Lie-la-lie
Lie-la-lie lie lie-la-lie
Lie-la-lie
Lie-la-lie lie lie-la-lie
La-la la-la
Lie

Then we clambered up a winding road
I wished that we were gone
Going home
Where the Slinker and the Stinker
Weren’t a peeve to me
Leading me
Far from home.

In the clearing stood the gardener
And the Spider with him played
Tried to parry the reprisals
When all seemed lost while lying down
he stabbed up ‘til it cried out
In its anguish and its pain.
Is it leaving? It is leaving,
But the journey still remains . . . .

Lie-la-lie
Lie-la-lie lie lie-la-lie
Lie-la-lie
Lie-la-lie lie lie-la-lie
La-la la-la
Lie ...

Lie-la-lie lie lie-la-lie
Lie-la-lie
Lie-la-lie lie lie-la-lie
La-la la-la
Lie…(7x)

4. 1971 Folk rock, becomes hard rock

There’s a lady who’s sure “all that glitters ain’t gold”
She’s declining her place at the Havens.

When she stays, then she knows that her way will be closed,
With a word she will keep what she stays for.

Ooh, ooh, she’s assigning her space at the Havens.

There’s a sign for the war that she’s carefully sewn
‘Cuz she knows sometimes flags help with winning.
With a tree, seven stars, and a crown built with wings
This to Aragorn’s forces is given.
Ooh, they take it yonder
Ooh, they take it yonder

There’s a feeling she gets when she looks to the West
And her spirit is crying for leaving
In her thoughts, though, she’s seen winsome boy through the trees
Run with joy to his dad while she’s looking
Ooh, it’s made her wonder
Ooh, it’s really made her wonder

And it’s whispered that soon if the Ring falls to Doom,
All the vessels will go out to Sea then,
But a new day will dawn for she who stays long,
And the hallways will echo with laughter.

Now something’s troubling you, Frodo, and you’re alarmed now--
A Morgul splinter from the Witch King--
But here’s a new path you can go by, and in the long run,
There’s still time to change the road you’re on

It’ll take you yonder….

Your soul is hurting and it won’t go, in case you don’t know,
The shipwright’s calling you to join him.
Dear Frodo, can you hear the wind blow, and did you know:
Your pathway lies in the Mithlond wind.

And as you wind on toward the boats,
The ship masts tall and hulls afloat,
There waits a lady we both know,
Who shines white light and wants to show
A far green country with white shores,
And if you sail through it, will part
A curtain raining silver-glass,
Where all are one and one is all,
You’ll learn to laugh and not to fall.

And he rides, in her place, from the Havens.

5. 1971 piano- rock / pop

Remember we’re in Eä
And Arda, if you’ll try,
Udûn below us,
Eärendil in the sky.
(bla-blank-a} all Free People with us here today.

Remember then, the One Ring,
Something to undo,
Beauty to save and strive for,
Our innocence too.
(bla-blank-a} all Free People joining for the peace.

They, they may say we are dreamers,
But we’re not the only ones.
The story plays out for us,
Our Fourth Age continues on.

Remember all the legends,
Relive them if we could.
Believe in fearless wonder,
A sister- and brotherhood.
(bla-blank-a} all Free People with us in this world.

They, they may say we are dreamers,
But we’re not the only ones.
The story plays out for us,
Our Fourth Age continues on.

6. early 1970s, piano rock, male vocalist, 3/4 time signature

The Fourteen Hundreds (1400s), Shire Reckoning,
The Istari chief I was then.
Just an old man—only looks to be—
Making half-breeds of Uruks and Men.

I said: Lurtz, do you know how Orcs came to be?
I’ll tell you for sure how it goes:
They were Elves once, they say, ‘til the Dark had its way,
Perfected in you, and it shows.

La la la de de da
La la de de da da da

Bring me the Halfling, to Saruman!
Alive and unspoilt, tonight,
As there’s something of value he has for me,
The others, just kill ‘em, all right?

Now Gandalf the Grey was a friend of mine,
He sought advice trustingly,
A dotard slowpoke hooked on Halfling leaf-smoke,
Now there’s someplace that he’d rather be.
He said: “Friend, your betrayal is killing me,”
As the trust ran away from his face.
“Well I‘m sure that you’re being a rude Istar,
And I’ll soon fly out of this place!”

Oh La la la de de da
La la de de da da da

Now Lurtz was the Uruk-Hai nemesis,
He liked to lick blood from a knife,
He let loose at the target, three times did he mark it,
But promptly some schmuck took his life.

After Wormtongue’s done practicing politics,
Let the Deeping Wall fall like the rain!
Yes, they hold in the Hornburg in hopelessness,
‘Cuz it’s better than hoping in vain.

No dawn for Man! (except Saru-Man!!)
Leave none alive, tonight!
For a new power is rising in Isengard!
Its victory, at hand and in sight!

‘Twas a pretty good crowd here in Isengard
And the tree-herders gave me a smile,
‘Cuz they knew it was me they were comin’ to see
To throw rocks at my tower for a while.

Rang my voice, like those barkers at carnivals,
As I greeted old friends with a sneer.
With a word Gandalf spoke, well, my wizard staff broke,
And . . . say, man, you seen my palantír???

Oh la la la de de da
La la de de da da da

Off to the Shire go I, Saruman!
Sharkey’s last chance, tonight!
Well, what have we here, Halflings in liveries . . . ?
Aggh! You got me, Gríma, all right?!

7. 1976 progressive rock / hard rock, the first verse is sung a-cappella

{blank-blank blank blank blank-blank blank},
Then home please, when you are done.
When you’re here, you’ll head the rest
Who defy Mordor.

Had a dream, declared my son being woken,
Heard a voice: Seek for the sword that was broken,
There shall be counsels taken
Of the Doom near at hand,

In Imladris there it dwells,
it had spoken,
You’ll be shown stronger than spells there a token,
For Isildur’s Bane shall awaken,
And the Halfling forth shall stand!

{blank-blank blank blank blank-blank blank},
Then home please, when you are done.
When you’re here, you’ll head the rest
Who defy Mordor.

Masquerading that I rule with a reason,
My charade will spell our autumnal season,
Though I look to be a wise man, well
There is something they don’t know….

I’m a stormy sea of moving emotion,
Son was borne upon a boat to the ocean,
The cloven horn of his misfortune
In my hands, as though to say

(blank-blank blank} your {blank-blank blank}
Will have peace when you are done.
While you’re here, you’ll head the rest
Who defy Mordor.
NO!

{blank-blank blank}, I will always remember!
Carry on, nothing equals the splendor!
The center lights up from my palantír
Son, your mother waits for you.

(blank-blank blank} your {blank-blank blank}
Will have peace when you are done.
While you’re here, you’ll head the rest
Who defy (who defy Mordor).

8. hint: mid 1970s rock, with reggae-influenced rhythm, male vocalist

In a dark Dwarven mine-way,
Without wind in our hair,
Foul smell of detritus
Rising up through the air,
Up ahead in the distance,
The paths forked left, down, and right.
Our heads grew heavy and our sight grew dim--
We had to stop for the night.

[DRUMS:] Doom! Doom!

The Watcher had blocked the doorway;
Our wizard took the helm,
And we were thinking to ourselves,
“This could be Ûdun, not the Blessed Realm.”
Then he lit up a crystal,
And he showed us the way.
Orcs were drumming down the corridor.
We thought we heard them say:

Welcome to the Orc-filled mines of Moria!
Such a lovely place
For your burial space.
Plenty of mithril to mine down here in Moria.
Any time of year,
You can perish here.

The tunnels tortuously twisted,
They’ve got the Orc-laden bends,
We found a lot of gritty, gritty bones,
Complete dead ends.
Drop a stone down a deep well,
Foo-oo-oo-ool of a Took!
I think they’ve got a cave troll,
Quick, let’s read Ori’s book….

Then came forth the chieftain,
Speared me through my right side.
I thought, if it hadn’t worn my mail-shirt here,
I would have surely died.
And still that Dimrill-gate waiting so far away.
See the Orcs all scattering in fright
Of a Shadow and Flame.

Welcome to the Balrog haunt of Moria!
Such a lovely place,
Now it’s time to race!
Plenty of bottomless pits down here in Moria.
What a curious thing,
Does it have real wings?

With his staff and Glamdring,
Standing over the crevasse,
He said, “I am a servant of the secret fire,
YOU SHALL NOT PASS!”
But forth the demon clambered,
And as the bridge broke anon,
Gandalf caught in that whip of flame,
“Fly you fools!” he cried, and was gone.

Last thing I remember, we were
Running for the door,
We had to find the passage there
To the place we headed for.
“Relax,” said the Lady.
A sad lament did we hear.
“What’s it mean?” I heard Merry ask,
But the grief was too near.

9. early 1980s, male vocals

Where the will’s wanting not,
A way opens
, we say,”
A young Rohirrim rider
Whispered, coming by my way.

He rode light like snowflakes,
His grey eyes glinted pain.
The memory of this Dernhelm
Would never leave my brain.

Then Théoden cried: “Fell deeds awake,
‘ere splintering our shields!
Ride now! to Gondor!
to the Pelennor Fields!”

My blood ran cold,
My levity would soon be sold.
Songs of us will never fold!
The Rohirrim will never fold!

My blood ran cold,
My levity would soon be sold.
(guitar riff)
The Rohirrim will never fold!

Mounted close to Dernhelm’s back,
Puzzled, thinkin’ about his…rack?!
He was shy and turned away,
Away from Théoden’s eye.

I felt shakin’ in my feet
At every mûmak trumpet bleat,
But shine did Théoden’s golden shield,
‘Neath Gondor’s new morn sky.

But lo! The dawn was blotted,
His mighty shield went dim.
Descended like a falling cloud,
The Witch King dark and grim!

My blood ran cold,
A dart shot out and Snowmane rolled.
Our King’s renown will never fold!
Songs of him will never fold!

My blood ran cold,
A dart shot out and Snowmane rolled.
(Guitar riff)
Songs of him will never fold!

Na, na, na-na na, na!
Na na na, na-na na na, na-a-a-a-a!
Na, na, na-na na, na!
Na na na, na-na na na, na-a-a-a-a!
Na, na, na-na na, na!
Na na na, na-na na na, na-a-a-a-a!
Na, na, na-na na, na!
Na na na, na-na na na, na-a-a-a-a!

“Begone, ye foul dwimmerlaik!
The steel-helmed, youthful Rider spake.
A voice hissed from beneath that crown:
“No living man can put me down!”

Doffed his helm, yes “he” did,
Gold waves spilled from under.
Gender’s shown, and with sword, clove
The fell beast’s neck asunder.

By strike with mace that Witch King gripped,
Shield from maiden’s arm got stripped.
Oh no, he’s standing right above her!
Oh yeah, the Shire will give her cover!

My arm fell cold,
She rammed her blade above the shoul-
ders of the Captain Nazgûl
Éowyn killed the Nazgûl!
Éowyn killed the Nazgûl!

Her arm fell cold,
Her enemy had just been nulled,
(guitar riff)
Éowyn bagged the Nazgûl!

Na, na, na-na na, na!
Na na na, na-na na na, na-a-a-a-a!

(spoken:) all right, all right, one two three four!

As the years grow old
The melody will still be told
How Éowyn slew the Nazgûl
The Captain of the Nazgûl!

(repeat, fade to a-cappella whistling)

10. 1984, male vocalist, soft rock / electronic rock

I feel it in the earth,
I feel the world is changed,
I smell it in the air,
The water feels as strange.
Much that once
Was is lost, there's
None live who recall,
It started long ago:
One Ring, to Rule Them All....

I can see you,
Your fair face smiling in the sun,
You were the Lord of Gifts, we were
Under your thumb, baby!
I can tell you, we'll rise anew and still be strong
Until the power of Sauron has gone.

I never will forget those times,
I wonder if it was a dream:
Remember how the King's sword Narsil
Was shattered in that nightmare scene?
That's when the son took up his father's sword alone,
Swung it so the dark hand fell,
And son picked Sauron's Ring up....

I can see you,
Your one chance ending evil, gone.
Instead you claimed it for yourself and you
Floundered when it moved on.
I can tell you, the blood from you will still be strong
Until the power of Sauron has gone.

Out in the world, the Ring, under the Mountains waiting for its Lord's return,
Whispers of a nameless fear, where Doom fires burn, where the forging fires burn,
So it abandoned Gollum.
How could it know
Something it had not intended:
The unlikeliest creature found it....

I can see you,
Your round-doored dwellings in the sun,
You got your time come soon, shape the
Fortunes of all, baby!
I can tell you, though smallest, you will still be strong
Until the power of Sauron has gone.

I can see you,
Your green hills shinin' in the sun,
You've lived in shelter, now you'll have to
Give us your all, baby!
I can tell you, the heart of you will still beat strong
Until the power of Sauron has gone.

11. Early 1980s, from a band’s name is in the lyrics below, the band is known for power ballads, the song is covered often.

Just a woodland Elf,
Took a journey by himself.
He had to make his way out to Rivendell.
Son of fighting Dwarves,

Raised in mountain halls, not wharves.
He had to make his way out to Rivendell.
Counting heads of Orcs they slew,
Forty-one* to forty-two.
May it be that friends will last the night
That goes on and on and on and on….

Strained relations up and down in history, they
Kept their distance at first sight.
For his one gift, Gimli longed for naught but one hair.
I think someone’s seen the Li-i-i-i-ight!

Never did foresee this end.
What about beside a friend,
Doing everything to hold the line
This one last fight?

Some you lose, some you win,
When you’re done, again begin.
So they moved into the West
To play on and on and on and on….

Strangers led them up and down the walks in blindfolds
To the Lady of the Light.
He was taken from his breath to find emotion,
I think he’s changed overni-i-i-i-ight!

{Blank blanky blank-blank}
Hold on to that feelin’!
Beat that kill sco-o-o-ore!

{Blank blanky blank-blank}
Hold on, my axe is dee-eep i-i-i-i-i-in
His nervous syste-e-e-e-e-em!!

{Blank blanky blank-blank}
Whole mûmak, hey that’s che-e-e-e-eating!
It just equals o-o-o-o-one!

*[or if you prefer the movie version, “forty-three….”]

12. 1999 with a Male vocalist, was featured in several movies of late 1990s & 2000s

Somebody once taught you to roam the range before you,
You wore a broken sword at your belt,
You were looking kind of dirty you never changed your shirt,
It was the grimiest you had ever felt.

Well, the wraiths kept coming to the Shire they kept coming,
Had to hunt Gollum so you hit the ground running,
Couldn’t have Arwen ‘cuz her dad said: Son,
To win her hand, gotta win your kingdom.
So much to do, so much to see,
So you helped the lads with the hair-feet,
You’ll never wed if you don’t go,
You’ll never rule if you don’t grow.

Hey now, you’re Elessar, got your crown on, go reign.
Hey now, you’re Telcontar, now your clothes are unstained.
And all that glitters ain’t gold,
Withers not the strong despite being old.

It’s a dark place and they say it gets creepy,
You took the fell road where the dead they weren’t sleepy
And the Oathbreakers begged your forgiveness.
Judging by the whole lotta skulls, they meant business.
At Mordor’s gate, your patience wore thin,
Your forces played a bluff just to take the Eye in.
The Orodruin fire, how it glowed,
That’s what you were waiting for to finally explode.

Hey now, you’re Elessar meaning Elfstone, not jade,
Hey now, you’re Telcontar, now you’re sword’s been remade.
And all that glitters ain’t gold,
Withers not the strong despite being old.

(Instrumental break)

Hey now, you’re Elessar, throne of Gondor reclaimed,
Hey now, you’re Telcontar, that’s your royal house name.
And all that glitters ain’t gold,
Healing hands are yours . . . .

Some Hobbits once said they see trouble up ahead,
They need your help get them to Rivendell.
You thought yep, what a concept,
Arwen’s there, you wanna go yourself,
Where you once bore the name Estel . . . .

Well, the Orcs kept coming to the Deep they kept coming,
Shove the siege ladders so they hit the ground sudden.
Couldn’t give Éowyn that which she sought,
She offered her heart but you gave her naught.
So much to do so much to see
With a Dwarf, and Elf with the fast feet.
A light from the shadows shall spring,
The crownless again shall be king.

Hey now, you’re Elessar got your crown on, go reign
Hey now, you’re Telcontar, now your clothes are unstained
And all that glitters ain’t gold
Withers not the strong despite being old.
And all that glitters ain’t gold
Withers not the strong, as foretold.

**Name That Tune Answers and Scores** [In reply to] Can't Post

Thanks to all those who played, for your great work and fun answers!

Here are the solutions and results:

Name That Tune: TV/Movie Themes & Showtunes, etc.- ANSWERS

1. Thomas & Friends
The mighty engines that could guess this one were….*crickets*... ah well. I have two young kids, welcome to my world. I just couldn’t resist the irony of doing a song listing the major Valar to this saccharine kid’s tune.

2. Transformers

Thunderously battled by: Magpie, Kim, and Eruvandi. Well done!

3. Elmo’s World (from Sesame Street)

This correct guess was brought to you by: weaver, *high five!*

4. Go Diego Go!

Going going gone, it’s a homer, by: mm… anyone…? spin-off of Dora the Explorer, anyone? Nick Jr.? no? ah well. Next….

5. The Flintstones

Magpie, weaver, Kim, and Eruvandi [i[rocked this one, hooray! It occurs to me that my kids know nothing, zippo, about this show nor this tune….

6. Spongebob Squarepants

A squeaky-clean point scored by Magpie, weaver, Kim, Eruvandi. Way to go!

7. The Brady Bunch

Got it by more than just a hunch: Magpie, weaver, Kim, Eruvandi. Outstanding! Maybe a bit too obvious, I mean, the “Bardy {blank}”? but anyway I’m glad to compensate for the obscure ones above.

8. Three’s Company

Didn’t get tripped up: Magpie, weaver, Kim. I wonder which one Thorin would be more like: Jack or Larry? I think Bilbo would be Jack, so…. And Elrond would be Mr. Roper! With Lindir as Mrs. Roper! Master of Laketown would be Mr. Furley! etc.

9. Ghostbusters, Ray Parker Jr.

Busted wide open by: Magpie, weaver, Kim and Eruvandi! I gave full credit for spelling it as two words, just ‘cuz, but yes, it’s one word.

10. Mulan (I’ll Make a Man Out of You)
Got down to business: Kim and Eruvandi, woohoo!

11. Frozen (Let It Go),
sung by Idina Menzel. There’s also a Demi Lovato version from the movie, that is rather different, structurally and lyrically. I had expected more guesses of this, which has been a big thing of late, lots of covers on youtube, and parodies, and the movie’s been doing really well, with an best song Oscar for this song, blah blah blah. I think there’s been a Gollum-parody or two… here is one. (Not mine.)
Didn’t hold back: Eruvandi, nice!

12. Les Miserables (Little People)

Marvelleux! Réponse deviné et le point marqué par Kim, great job! I gave full credit for guessing the title of the show, but in retrospect I might have offered bonus points for guessing the song title in addition…. (takes mental note).

13. Les Miserables (On My Own)

Encore répondu correctement par: Kim, who also nailed the song title, terrific! (Yes, she did it on her own.) This is why I wish I’d offered bonus points for including the song title in the guess….

Tally for
Name That Tune: TV/Movie Themes & Showtunes:
Kim 9 Magpie 8 Weaver 7 Eruvandi 7

Congrats Kim, our Name That Tune TV/Movie Themes & Showtunes Category Champion, and well done in second place, Magpie! Thanks to Kim, Magpie, weaver and Eruvandi for playing!

Jazz-mid70s, ANSWERS

1. Beyond the Sea,
by Bobby Darin or if you prefer, by Robbie Williams.
Correct answer was found by:…. well, it’s not like this is a Finding Nemo / Pixar fan forum, is it.

2. Love and Marriage, Frank Sinatra.

Correctly put together like a horse and carriage, by: Magpie, Kim. Nicely done you two!

3. It Had to Be You
(I was thinking of the version by Harry Connick Jr.) Here is Frank Sinatra’s slower, more somber version, which has additional lyrics as an intro. He’s great, but IMO I’m glad they used Harry Connick’s version for When Harry Met Sally.
It had to be: Kim, yes!

4. Heartbreak Hotel, Elvis Presley

Broken wide open by: Magpie and Kim. Excellent!

5. Great Balls of Fire, Jerry Lee Lewis

Blasted into smoking, pyrotechnical smithereens by: Magpie, weaver, and Kim. Goodness gracious, well guessed! And in just one verse, even.

6. Come Together, the Beatles.

This was all worked out by: Magpie, weaver, Kim. Fantastic! Insert pun here relating to three forces coming together….

7. Respect, as performed by Aretha Franklin (covering an Otis Redding song)

Socked it: Magpie (as in “RESPECT the Magpie….”), weaver, and Kim!

8. Surrender, Cheap Trick

I hear this song covered by local bands now and then (or did, back when I saw local bands more often). I actually saw Cheap Trick live, in my hometown (in a previous hometown)! That was about ten years ago. They performed the hits I knew, including this song, I Want You To Love Me, and That 70s Song, the theme to That 70s Show sitcom.

Correctly guessed by, oh well. Surrendered. Next….

9. Papa Was A Rolling Stone, The Temptations

Everybody rolled by this one.

10. Too Old to Rock and Roll: Too Young to Die, Jethro Tull

I had a lot of fun with the wording of this parody, I was hoping more would get it. This one was correctly answered by… er, life’s too short, let’s go to the next one.

11. Rocky Mountain High, John Denver

This mountain was climbed by: Kim! Cheers! BTW, I intend to finish this parody, I have a good feeling about this one.

Tally for
Name That Tune: Jazz to mid 70s Kim 7 Magpie 5 weaver 3
Congrats Kim, our Name That Tune Jazz Era to mid-70s Category Champion, and well done in second place, Magpie! Thanks for Kim, Magpie and weaver for playing!

late 70s to present, ANSWERS

1. Psycho Killer, The Talking Heads
This group is one of my favorites from that era and of all time.
This one was slashed and hacked to quivering chunks by: Starling and Magpie, well done!

2. Funky Town, Lipps, Inc.
To those who fear or hate disco, beware!
Those who went to town on this one were: Starling and Kim.

3. Stray Cat Strut, The Stray Cats

Doing a victory strut: Starling (who also named the band!… in retrospect I wish I had offered bonus points for that), and Kim. A point each. Magpie correctly named the band, but unfortunately didn’t earn a point. weaver made an apt cat reference Laugh

4. Once In A Lifetime, The Talking Heads
I wrote this parody at the same time I was writing the Psycho Killer parody about Smaug, earlier this past week, because the idea for both parodies hit me at the same time.. I literally went back and forth, line by line, between them.
We may ask ourselves, who got this one? Starling, Kim, and Magpie, that’s who. Well done!

5. Sharp Dressed Man, ZZ Top
This was actually a repost, but it didn’t end up in Rux’ Reposts because it was buried deep in a subthread and I doubted anyone would remember it.

Sharply addressed by:… ooh, no one. I only gave one verse and a one-line chorus, maybe that made it especially difficult.

Before moving onto #6, I’d just like to mention that someone guessed Addicted to Love for this (Magpie)… while someone else guessed the same title for 4 above! (actually Addicted to Love or YMCA-was the guess, thank you weaver!) Is that a thing now, Addicted to Love as the fall-back answer for Name that Tune clues, like answering “C” on multiple choice (thank you for that one also, Magpie)? Laugh

6. Livin’ On A Prayer, Bon Jovi

Made it all the way there: Starling!

7. Get Lucky, Daft Punk

Those who got it, were: Starling and Magpie. Birds of a feather? Well done!

8. I Knew You Were Trouble, Taylor Swift or if you prefer, by Gollum, or by this Gollum (none of them are mine)

Those who knew this one: Kim, but with a deduction due to incomplete answer (one out of five words given). I only deducted a half rather than four-fifths. 0.5 point earned for this one, Kim.

9. Telephone, Lady Gaga, with Beyoncé

Those who called it: Starling, Kim, and weaver! Awesome!

10. Raise Your Glass*, P!nk *WARNING: Strong language

Here’s to the one who got it: Kim! weaver’s made me laugh though! Laugh

Those who couldn’t be stopped: Kim!

12. All Star, Smash Mouth,
which video seems to have been to promote Mystery Men. Here’s another link to video from Shrek.

Those who got their game on for this one: Kim!

Everyone who participated in this Rux Reposts category prefaced their guesses with a statement of never having seen the parodies before, and therefore every player would earn 1.5 points per correct guess.
