This weekend, on April 26th, we celebrate Founders’ Day, TORn’s official holiday, which commemorates the founding of this most remarkable site. And this year we have a Very Special Celebration, TORn is *15* years old! An excellent reason to get together to eat, drink, be Merry, and have a blast!
Many TORnfolks have been working to provide you with the very best in hobbity entertainment! We'll have games, challenges, imagination-stretchers, all kinds of fun awaits! The larder is stocked…
The cooks are busily preparing the feast…
There are goodies aplenty…

with extra gin. Cause that's where wifey, me, and a bunch of friends are going this weekend. http://www.srfestival.com/ I plan to eat, drink, and be merry this weekend because Monday Doctor Desire (I am not making that name up) will put me in the hospital if the Eliquis hasn't worked and give my heart, oooo, shock treatment! (85% odds of success, doc says. Not bad!)

I feel Tolkien would approve of Founder's Day, so he had to join in with the celebrations too. (It is supposed to be a party blower ... ) Well ... all I have planned this weekend is too have fun, eat lots of cake, sing some songs, answer some riddles and have fun with the festivities. Happy 15th Birthday.

Congratulations and a huge thank you to all the founders of TORn! :) Since the weather here is apparently still swinging back and forth between Winter and Spring, LOL, I'll have a Winter Usual today, please (with celebratory whipped cream and sprinkles, I think!). Thanks, and a very happy Founders' Day to you all!

Er, the doctor thingy, not the Faire, that is! Would you like some parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme to go with that cocktail? I hope you have a wonderful time there and perfect weather, and whatever else is needed to make sure all goes well on Monday!

Real whipped cream, mind you, from the finest cows in the Shire! Hm, must be Elven-sprinkles, they're all...sparkley... Strange weather, isn't it? We had frost warnings last night, and it's already past mid-April! At least the days are pleasant. Snow's all gone! Have a fantastic weekend, Evey!

is that the older this site gets, the "newer" it looks! There must be some sort of Elven-magic going on here. Or maybe it's just plain everyday Hobbit-"magic". Yes, this is going to be a very busy and fun weekend for us all!

TORn is 15 this year, and FOTR is 60! I'm gardening: replacing winter losses and updating the bird feeding setups. A gorgeous day here, really Spring-feeling. Its Gatorade for me all day! Can't wait to see the surprises you all have in store for us (I did get a wee hint or two, having done some graphics at the Mayor's behest). Have a great weekend all.
The Third TORn Amateur Symposium kicks off this Sunday, April 13th, in the Reading Room. Come and join us for Tolkien-inspired writings!

how long ago these books were first published - and they're still going strong. Classics, indeed! Isn't it lovely outside! What do you usually get, for Spring and Summer birds? *slides tall Gatorade with straw down bar*

I can hardly believe that TORn has been around since I was almost 7 years old. Wow! I look forward to celebrating a great Founders' Day with all of you. It's been a super hectic, and less than fun week for me, I'm afraid. My daddy hasn't been in the best of health for a good number of years now, mostly because he tends to not watch his weight very well, but he also has other health problems like type 2 diabetes and chronic lymphedema. Anyway, back in September ended up in the hospital with pneumonia which got treated over the course of a few days and he got sent home again. He had been doing better for a while, but this past month he started developing breathing problems again. He hates going to the doctor, but after much harassing, his doctor and my mom finally got him to schedule an appointment on Wednesday. Weeeell, when he got there, the doctor looked at his blood/oxygen level, said "WHY THE HECK DIDN'T YOU GO STRAIGHT TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM?!!!" and called the ambulance to take him there. Turns out, the local fire department was doing training at the time, so not only did we get an ambulance in front of the doctors office, we also got two big fire trucks with sirens turned on. (they didn't know if they'd have to lift my dad onto a stretcher or not. They didn't, thankfully) My mom and I followed the ambulance to the hospital in our car and when we got there, we ended up sitting there waiting for the doctors to make a decision about what was going on from around 4p.m. until 7:30p.m. when they decided they'd have to keep my dad at the hospital for a few days. The diagnosis is that he has a whole bunch of fluid around his heart and lungs due to respiratory failure which is due to his weight. They're currently working on getting all that fluid off, figuring which of his medications may have been contributing, and pounding it into his head that he has GOT to get more active and start losing weight or this will keep happening and next time, there may be no second chances. *deep sigh* I'm so tired right now. On the happier side of things, my Theology and Cinema professor finally got my Movie Paper on the spiritual theme of self-sacrifice in ROTK graded and I got 190 out of 200 points. He said the paper was great and the only reason he took off the ten points was because I totally forgot that I had to cite two outside sources along with the movie itself. My bad. Plans for the weekend include continuing to work on a Research Paper for my Developmental Psychology course, knitting myself a messenger bag-style purse, and of course, waiting for my dad to get home from the hospital.
"But there’s empty cross, there’s an empty tomb Fire and wind now sweeping in this tiny upper room There’s a hungry world, there’s a risen King Unlock the doors, what reason more could we ever need? So sing with me, I dare you to Because there’s an empty cross; there’s an empty tomb" ~Empty (Disciples)-sung by Dan Haseltine and Matt Hammitt
