I find Robert Foster’s Complete Guide to Middle-earth to be an invaluable source of information. And he may be forgiven if an infrequent error has been made. Listed below are the entries where I have found errors. Can you find the errors in these entries? 1. Battle of the Hornburg. 2. Battle of the Pelennor Fields. 3. Bruinen 4. Cirdan 5. Eored 6. Forest Gate 7. Gollum 8. Gwaihir 9. Half-orcs 10. Holman Greenhand 11. Lord of the Nazgul 12. Mithril Mail 13. Side-door 14. Stone of Erech 15. West-gate of Moria

I've got Tyler's too. (I may check him out next.) He is more loquacious than Foster, but Foster gives page numbers which I find invaluable for quick reference. Every Tolkien nut-job should have a copy of both. You can pick up either on Amazon for less than a buck + shipping. BTW- Everybody. Partial answers will be accepted....Jump right in! Pick one and go, Go, GO! ps Gonna miss you BlackFox !

So! No one cares to play? That’s ok. I have been spurned before. Shoot! Just the other day I was kicked out of the Floating Log in Frogmorton by a bunch of little people with feathers in their hats – for being too tall! Can you just imagine? Then to top off the insult I was shown (by a bunch of shorties that called themselves "Bounders") that the Bridge of Stonebows goes East as well as West. . . Nonetheless, I feel compelled to give my answers; which I will do this afternoon.

But to entertain you, I can guess? 1. Battle of the Hornburg. It wasn't a battle between a hornet and a battenberg cake. 2. Battle of the Pelennor Fields. Misses out the bit about the green scrubbing bubble ghosts. 3. Bruinen Glorfindel didn't cross the Bruinen with Frodo, it was Arwen. 4. Cirdan Misses off the diacritic 5. Eored Also misses off the diacritic. 6. Forest Gate He misses out the bit where you always receive a random tweet from Lady Galadriel when you enter the Forest Gate. 7. Gollum Gollum was actually a frog, and not a Stoor at all. 8. Gwaihir "Why didn't the eagles just take them to Mordor" answer is wrong 9. Half-orcs No, Justin Bieber isn't half-orc. 10. Holman Greenhand He was actually an awful gardener. It was all a lie. 11. Lord of the Nazgul Clearly omits the part about Tolkien copying Rowling - the Ringwraiths were actually based on Dementors. 12. Mithril Mail No, Mithril Mail was not succeeded by the Royal Mail in 1516. 13. Side-door Foster makes it sound like a euphemism. 14. Stone of Erech Also a euphemism. I don't know who this Eric is, but he must be impressive. 15. West-gate of Moria It says Gandalf tried to find Thrain. We all know Thrain is in Dol Guldur, blink and you will miss him.

But to entertain you, I can guess? Thank you DanielLB! Yes, I was entertained.... And your answers are ALL correctly wrong (no book??) that's hard to believe. I wish to thank one and all for playing... ooops, I mean ONE. All seriousness aside, for ONE and all that give a poo here's what I came up with: Robert Foster’s comments are in “quotes”, my corrections are in (parenthesis). 1. Battle of the Hornburg. “..Theoden, Eomer, and Aragorn at their head, sallied forth from the Hornburg..” (Eomer was NOT in this sortie; he was back in the Deep with Gimli. They were not reunited with Theoden and Aragorn until after the victory was won.) II 182, 189 2. Battle of the Pelennor Fields. “..the Lord of the Nazgul scattered the Rohirrim and slew Theoden..” (Theoden was crushed by his horse Snowmane. The Lord of the Nazgul never laid a claw on Theoden.) 3. Bruinen. “..joined the Mitheithel at Tharbad to form the Gwathlo.” (The Bruinen (Loudwater) and the Mitheithel (Hoarwell) conjoined over 100 miles N. of Tharbad.) 4. Cirdan. “He built Vingilot for Earendil.” (Earendil built Vingilot with the aid of Cirdan.) S.304 5. Eored. “Eomer’s, which was perhaps typical had 104 men.” (Eomer’s eored had 120 men. The size of an eored seemed to depend upon need.) 6. Forest Gate. “Thorin and Company were shown this gate by Beorn..” (The Forest Gate was 2-3 day’s pony ride from Beorn’s house. He only told them about it.) 7. Gollum. “He caught up with Frodo and the Company of the Ring outside the West-gate…” (He was (already) inside Moria when he “caught up” with the Fellowship.) 8. Gwaihir. “Lord of the Eagles of the Misty Mountains.” (Can’t be! This has been discussed previously, but ask if you need an explanation.) 9. Half-orcs. “..(the term is not used in LotR)..” (“We had many of these half-orcs to deal with..”) II 218 10. Holman Greenhand. “He lived at Number 3 Bagshot Row.” (Hamfast & Sam lived at Number 3 – Holman’s address is unknown.) 11. Lord of the Nazgul. “..he killed King Theoden..” (See Battle of the Pelennor Fields above.) 12. Mithril Mail. “A corslet and helmet of mithril made in Erebor…” (The helmet was not mithril.) H 228 13. Side-door. “..and the door, five feet high and three feet wide…” (..”and three may walk abreast..” must have been much more than “three feet wide”.) H 32 14. Stone of Erech. “..was perhaps six feet in diameter.” (Had to be at least ten feet in diameter. Tall as a man yet half buried.) 15. West-gate of Moria. “The West-gate was made of ithildin..” (It was made of stone. Only the “hidden markings” were of ithildin.) Can you say "Game Over"?
