Have an idea relating to the world of JRR Tolkien that you would like to write about? If so, the Third TORn Amateur Symposium will be running in the Reading Room April, 2014. *The Call for Submissions is up*!

Most are probably search engine bots. i.e., spiders.

******************************************
A fox passing through the wood on business of his own stopped several minutes and sniffed. "A chicken crossing the road!" he thought. "Well, what next? I have heard of strange doings in this land, but I have seldom heard of a chicken crossing the road! There's something mighty queer behind this." He was quite right, but he never found out any more because he ate it.

I noticed it too. [In reply to] Can't Post

I wonder if it has anything to do with the DVD/blu ray release of DOS?

(We're at 1649 guests at 19:29 BST.)

...they just think we're really interesting all on our own?Angelic

I just checked it and the numbers are at 772 guests as of 4:34 EST. Funny how a good one-third of the guests listed were looking at Who's Online. Huh.

Yes. [In reply to] Can't Post

That's usually what it is when we have high numbers of guests. This is how it happens that when you search for something Tolkien-related using a search engine, pages from TORN, including message board posts, appear among your results.

Of course, there are bound to be some real people among them, both true lurkers and members who are reading without being logged in, just probably not thousands at a time. Smile
