Survey for fans and critics of Peter Jackson's film The Desolation of Smaug Can't Post

Hi everyone,

My name is Carolyn Michelle, and I'm the lead researcher on an international research project exploring audience responses to Peter Jackson's Hobbit trilogy. The is an academic study being run from Waikato University in New Zealand, a short drive from the Hobbiton movie set :)
In our online survey we are keen to hear people’s thoughts, responses and feelings about Peter Jackson's film The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. We’d like to hear from people with all kinds of views - from those who loved the film as well as those who were critical of particular aspects, or had quite mixed feelings. You can participate in the survey here:

Completing the survey will take around 30 minutes.
Any information you provide will remain confidential, and anonymous in any written reports arising from the project.

Please note that as this survey uses Flash it won’t work on Apple iPads, but may work on other tablet devices. A large-screen laptop or desktop computer is ideal.

About us: We’re a team of academic researchers located at the Universities of Waikato (Hamilton, New Zealand), Ryerson (Toronto, Canada), Roskilde (Denmark), and Ghent (Belgium). We are interested in the nature of audience reception, and in understanding why different people often have very different views and understandings of the same film.

If you wish to complete the survey, or want to learn more about the project before deciding, clicking the URL will take you to the formal consent agreement, which looks rather ominous but provides important details about the project and your rights as a research participant. The most important things to know are that your participation is entirely voluntary, your answers will remain anonymous, and you can say as much or as little as you wish.

Thank you very much for your time and participation!

Carolyn Michelle (PhD)

Survey for non-viewers of DOS [In reply to] Can't Post

Also, for those of you who may not have seen The Desolation of Smaug, we are running a parallel survey seeking information about the reasons for non-viewing. This survey is much shorter, and can be completed anonymously here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/LLNKFTX

Cool. [In reply to] Can't Post

Thanks CaroMichelle - I'll have a look at it this weekend.

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..."
Dwarves: "Pretty rings..."
Men: "Pretty rings..."
Sauron: "Mine's better."

"Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded beggar with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak.

All done. [In reply to] Can't Post

That was interesting! Thanks for giving us all the opportunity to do it.

"So fare thee well, my own true love
I'll think of you night and day
A place in my mind, you will surely find
Although I am so far away
And when I'm alone, far away from home
I'll think of the good times once more
Until I can make it back someday here
To Paddy's green shamrock shore"

Done... [In reply to] Can't Post

Though I found some of the questions really made me think (much like the last survey I participated in). Not necessarily a bad thing, since I prefer surveys that make you think a little rather than simply answering a yes or no response to.Smile

Far over the Misty Mountains cold
To dungeons deep and caverns old
We must away, ere break of day
To find our long-forgotten gold.
