Review: LOTR SEE Trilogy Playing Cards (Alan Lee) Can't Post

I remember having posted it here; however, I cannot seem to find it. Anyway, I'd like to share a collection item which I think is quite exclusive. I actually haven't seen it anywhere (eBay or similar) so I don't really know what it could be worth. The only known source for it was a highly limited Taiwan wooden box with the trilogy of LOTR SEE, released 2004. You couldn't buy it anywhere else (I got mine from the Russian distributor for participating in the translation of the bonus materials for ROTK SEE).

Anyway, I'd like to show it to you: the LOTR SEE Trilogy Playing Cards Deck, with artworks by Alan Lee.

The deck is contained in a nice cloth sack with the LOTR logo.

Inside, there is a cardboard box with the Tree of Gondor on it. I didn't keep it as pristine as I should be, there is some wear and tear. :(

The backside is an ad for both the Theatrical and the Extended DVD trilogies. Remember, this is pre-BluRay age.

The backside of the cards is the same as the box image: the Tree of Gondor with the LOTR logo. There are two extra cards advertizing both the Theatrical and the Extended trilogies.

Now the good stuff comes in. The character portraits by Alan Lee are the same as used in the ROTK credits.

Hearts: Elves
Ace: Galadriel, with Lothlórien
King: Elrond, with Rivendell
Queen: Arwen with Rivendell
Jack: Legolas with Forest
Number cards: Rivendell buildings among the trees

Spades: Forces of Evil

Ace: Sauron, with Barad-Dûr
King: Saruman, with Isengard
Queen: Nazgûl, with Black Rider
Jack: Trolls (several)
Number cards: Mount Doom

Clubs: The Hobbits
Ace: Frodo, with Sting and Minas Morgul
King: Sam, with Shelob's Lair
Queen: Merry, with Gondor Beacon and Rohan ornament
Jack: Pippin, with Gondor Beacon and Minas Tirith walls
Number cards: Hobbiton and Bag-End

Diamonds: Other Fellowship Members
Ace: Gandalf, with Minas Tirith (Entrance to the Palace)
King: Aragorn, with Minas Tirith (Court of the White Tree)
Queen: Gimli, with Halls of Moria
Jack: Boromir, with Minas Tirith Gates
Number Cards: Minas Tirith Walls

Jokers:
Gollum, with Emyn Muil and Mordor
Sméagol, with some sharp rocks

I wonder if anyone else has it. :)

PS [In reply to] Can't Post

There seems to be a re-release of this set on eBay, however, without the cloth sack.

Damn! [In reply to] Can't Post

Those are pretty sweet! I wouldn't want to actually use them I'd be afraid I'd ruin them haha.

I created the sound of madness, wrote the book on pain.

Those are totally super cool [In reply to] Can't Post

I wish I could find a set. I'd love to own them. I have admired the sketches in the credits since first seeing ROTK and wished I could buy the art somewhere but alas, I cannot.

Playing cards with sketches [In reply to] Can't Post

I think there were quite a lot of these available at the end of the LotR trilogy – I have a set, and I believe it came from the US.
