Lament for Gandalf Can't Post

I was just listening to the FOTR soundtrack and came across the track "Lothlorien (feat. "Lament for Gandalf") and it made me think about how, in that scene in the movie, Merry asked Legolas what they were saying about Gandalf in the lament and Legolas answers "I have not the heart to tell you, etc." This made me wonder: Did the filmmakers write actual elvish words in the Lament for Gandalf and if so does anyone know what they mean?

Curious minds want to know.

"And we find what we're made of
Through the open door
Is it fear you're afraid of?
What are you waiting for?
Love alone is worth the fight."
-Switchfoot

The singing draws from two different source texts [In reply to] Can't Post

Although they were probably meant to go together.

The soloist is singing from the source text: Lament for Gandalf: Verses
and the choir is singing (in counterpoint) from the source text: Lament for Gandalf: Chorus

Additionally, the Verses source text is broken into two sections, one in Quenya and one in Sindarin. Those links above will take you to the entire source texts.

I refer to these (and many more) as 'source texts' because the lyrics throughout the score will draw from these source texts: sometimes in bits in pieces... and sometimes one 'song' pulls from different source texts... and some source texts are used for different songs.

To see the lyrics you hear in the FOTR OST, go here. This (without checking my soundfiles) is likely what you hear in the TE.

To see the lyrics you hear in the CR-FOTR, go here. This (with same caveat above) is likely what you hear in the EE.

To peruse other lyric information [In reply to] Can't Post

Follow the link in my footer to my soundtrack site.

Then either browse the section called "Source Songs and Poems" or access the master list of all singing in the section, "Lyrics : Master List."

Having 'studied' the music long enough, there are sections I can sing along with. The same song Aragorn sings at the coronation is sung in FOTR-TE as the company travels down the Anduin.

I kind of had a little thrill recognizing the word 'Orodruin" in some lyrics connected with Mount Doom and connecting the word 'beleg' :
Sin eriol űm beleg úgannen Only thus a great evil unmade.
with Beleg Strongbow.

And as I researched the Old English used for Funeral of Theodred:
giedd sculon singan gléomenn sorgiende A song shall sing sorrowing minstrels
I understood the connection between 'gleomenn' and 'glee' as in 'glee club.'

And lots of the lyrics are Sindarin (or other Tolkien language) translations of text from the book. Ever thought about the connection between "In Dreams" (sung over FOTR credits) and The Song of the Entwives? ;-)

There's some fun and cool stuff in those lyrics.

score geek! lol

A work called ' Lament for Gandalf' for 4 voices, based on the text...

Will post it later on at the fan art page
