How TABA trailers can get better than DOS trailers - speculation Can't Post

Loved both of AUJ's trailers. Wasn't too happy w. DOS trailer #1 - tho I figured it was more of an early teaser.

But loved, loved DOS trailer #2 (being a Thorin/dwarf/Bilbo fan for one thing I was so *bleep* HAPPY to see my guys again) and thought the music was great. Never fainted in my life but the sneak peek was completely unexpected and so I came close to it the night of the fan event - the ominous eerie bell chimes, the prophecy, the music - all of it gave so much weight to the gathering events.

I'm guessing visually re TABA there will be some scenes they can show because there's always exciting stuff if there's going to be fighting, and they don't have to hide Smaug any more. Maybe throw in a shot of Thorin in full-blown dragon sickness since (whether it's correct or not) the theme of someone sitting on mountains of gold is something people can relate to. Thranduil going to war would be good, as he's visually spectacular.

Not sure how they are going to get across that this is not a re-hash of LOTR, because in theory all of ME is NOT at stake yet. Or how to get across Bilbo's significance without it looking like a children's film of sorts - or how this will at tie together when you are talking about a few minutes of footage.

And IMO they need to get the music right - that's critical. And not show too much either - personally I hope they keep the Iron Hills dwarves under wraps until the movie (tho bet images get leaked).

Howard Shore music please [In reply to] Can't Post

This will add to them considerably. We get something from him for the ROTK trailer so fingers crossed we'll get the same for TABA.

I kind of hope [In reply to] Can't Post

I hope the official trailer for TABA will be more similar to that of Return of the King.

The music is epic and chilling (And Aragorn's speech is like ten times more moving in the trailer than in the actual movie). I just think it's epic and heartbreaking and yeah. Perfect. TABA needs it!

Query, Avandel [In reply to] Can't Post

Weren't those wonderful eerie bell chimes, and the prophecy spoken by Bard, in the third 'trailer' that was not really a trailer? (Incidentally, I hope we have prolonged bell chimes in TABA they provide so much atmosphere.)

I would especially like to see Smaug, who is such a wonderful creation, in the trailer, as well as a prolonged sequence of an armoured and fighting Thranduil. I'm apprehensive about Thorin, since he is my favourite character. Unimpressed

Yes - probably should have said that differently [In reply to] Can't Post

tho I personally pretty much consider the "sneak peek" to be trailer #3, for me.

I'm apprehensive (very) about the handling of Thorin as well, tho I could see an image something like the French movie poster, a brooding king in silhouette, surrounded by treasure, and some sort of ominous musical tones, just indicating the ratcheting tension. I certainly don't think either trailer or movie should depict him as really foaming at the mouth crazy, and based on Thror that's not accurate to AUJ anyway. Thror was obviously functioning as king and still a war leader, until he died.

There are things I want to see re TABA, and things I don't.

I could see that [In reply to] Can't Post

"There can be no triumph without loss". *sigh*

Kudos to PJ & co. for taking this on, because IMO it's easy to epic with all of ME at at stake, and it would have been easier if the Hobbit had been filmed first. Still, DOS is still in theaters and PJ has lots of time to work w. TABA, trailers, music.
