Ringers take Disneyland on March 1, 2014

Calling all Dwarves, Elves, Hobbits and Wizards, you are hereby invited to 'Ringers take Disneyland' on Saturday, March 1 as part of the Oscar weekend festivities for fans of Middle-earth. Disney has hosted Star Wars days, Potter Days, Browncoat Days and more, so why not fans of Middle-earth? Here at TORn headquarters, we began to wonder what else we could do on Oscar weekend that would be fun for locals and out-of-towners alike. LA and Hollywood are a popular tourist destination for dozens of reasons, but we needed a place that everyone wants to go to at least once in their lifetime, and is also family friendly and super fun. Disneyland fits the bill in oh so many ways, not the least of which is the fact that it has Dwarves, a Wizard and Mines , as well as many other Middle-earth-like realms and magical folk. We’d been toying with the idea for a while and actually have plans for an event later on in the Fall, but we thought we would give the idea a test drive on Oscar weekend. The idea is to all meet up at 10am out in front of the park, get a group shot as we enter, and then let everyone loose with a little game that will ensure you get to see as much as possible inside the park. We’ll meet back up at 6pm for dinner in the French Quarter (to avoid the crowds of the parade on Main Street), check everyone’s status on the game, take another group shot, and then take at least one ride all together before releasing you back into the wild. For locals with annual passports, this is a blackout day for So Cal passes, but you can get the blackout override if you like, for Deluxe and Premium passholders, no blackout for you. For questions you can email me at Garfeimao@TheOneRing.net or rsvp and post queries on the Facebook Event page. This event is a one off event to help celebrate the Oscar weekend, but hereafter it will be known as Durin’s Day at Disney and will take place in Autumn. The idea will be to coordinate visits to all 5 of the Disney parks on the same weekend, but more on that once we see how successful this is.

Tolkien loathed Disney, as he says in Letter 13: he would "...veto anything from or influenced by the Disney studios (for all whose works I have a hearfelt loathing)...." he called it Disneyfication and "vulgar"... These outings are a bad idea! Let's not offend Christopher any more if we want to ever see any Silmarillion films. Timdalf

Not wanting Disney involved in Middle-earth has nothing to do with people having fun together. Nope, moving full speed ahead on creating another avenue for fans to interact with each other in a fun environment.

The fact that Tolkien did not want Disney to film any of his stories was based on his own opinion on Disney and his film business. Tolkien also eschewed fandom, especially the hippies in the US. Well, at least until the illegal copies of his books came out in the States and he began writing those fans back and asked them to spread the word about who the official publisher was here. But to presume a fan of Tolkien should adopt his opinions on the matter of Disney, or anything else is just folly.
